BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2015 Pettibone enjoyed an impressive debut as a groundball, pitch-to-contact guy in 2013 and appeared on his way toward a career as a generic innings eater, but generic innings eaters can't have bad shoulders, and Pettibone did. His outlook for 2015 is unclear, as labrum surgery's no simple fix and as generic innings eaters don't get priority seating. For now, he's Kyle Kendrick's darkest timeline.
2014 Pettibone was never a major prospect but he did have good results in 2012, pushing him up the depth chart. That got him the call when John Lannan went on the disabled list in April. Pettibone's arsenal is a lot like that of Kyle Kendrick. It's not intimidating, but he controls it well and skates by with a quality start more often than not. He joined Lannan on the DL in July, with a strained rotator cuff, so the Phillies can add "starting pitching depth" to their list of needs.
2013 More advanced than some of his fellow Philadelphia prospects with higher upsides, Pettibone has been able to move through the system briskly thanks to a command-oriented approach that allows his solid but far from overpowering arsenal to play up a bit. At 65", he's built like the proverbial workhorse starter, and while his ceiling is stretched as a number three in a perfect world, his floor as a back-end starter is within view. Pettibone will get some more seasoning in Triple-A and figures to get a look should the Phillies need reinforcements during the season.
2012 Jonathan Pettibone is the rare young pitcher who survives based on command and control but is nevertheless a prospect; the usual caveats apply, but his groundball style masks his talent.

2013-06-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)I just sold Michael Bourn for Ben Revere, Roberto Osuna, and Jonathan Pettibone in my 16 team mixed dynasty h2h league. Did I yield enough? We can keep all our players and have 40 man rosters that include 20 minors slots. I'm loaded with bats, and have iffy pitching with Homer Baily as my ace. Thoughts?
(Eric from Iowa)
That's a pretty good return right there. I think Pettibone can develop into a useful piece, especially in your deep league. (Paul Sporer)
2012-10-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Jonathan Pettibone ready to join the Phillies rotation next season?
(nik19 from Philly)
No, and I think his straight fastball will get pounded if he has to see guys multiple times per game. See him as more of a bullpen guy long term. (Bradley Ankrom)
