2005 The Padres went with an all-righty pen throughout the '04 season, and everyone was cool with that. Carrying a mediocre lefty on the staff can cause a manager to make dumb decisions, such as spotting said lefty against Barry Bonds. Osuna is no great shakes, but considering the desperate hunger for Tony Fossas clones shown by most other teams, he was still a better option than most spot lefties.
2003 The chief beneficiary of the organization’s lack of confidence in Keith Foulke was Osuna, who notched 11 saves in 14 chances in the final two-thirds of the season. Osuna was healthy for the entire season, and his ability to go multiple innings made him an important member of the Sox pen in 2002. His appalling track record for staying healthy makes him a terrible risk, which the White Sox happily handed off to the Yankees in the Colon deal.
2002 And now, "Torn Labrums on Parade." Bachelor #1 is a right-handed reliever who came over from the Dodgers to add to the bullpen depth of the Sox. Five innings into the season, he visited Dr. Lewis Yocum and never came back. Staying healthy is an ability, the same as throwing a slider or painting the corners. Osuna doesn't appear to possess it, so he may never get back to his 1998 level.
2001 We've left 22 innings in 1999 out of his DT so you can see just how far back he came. Antonio Osuna is essentially the same pitcher he was before undergoing elbow ligament surgery in September 1999. He'll have better years than this, too, particularly if he gets more serious about conditioning. Masaoka and Osuna give the Dodgers two explode-on-the-league candidates.
2000 To his credit, he tried like hell to pitch through an elbow injury, enduring a couple of disabled-list stints and, as you can see, a lot of California League time before undergoing Tommy John surgery in July. He probably came back too quickly from the minor surgery he had in the fall of 1998. Now, he’ll miss 2000 and hope his fastball returns in 2001.
1999 One of the better relievers in the league, and gets less respect than Chris Kahrl at a Mensa meeting. Osuna throws hard, mixes in a nice breaking ball and tries really hard not to do bad things, like kill everyone in the Dodger front office, no matter how justified he would be. He's going to save 120 games over three years for somebody, and it would be nice if 15 of those could come against the Dodgers. Needs a change of scenery.
1998 Kind of an angry-lookin’ guy who throws really hard. Part of a very deep and hard-throwing bullpen, which is a wonderful thing for a club to have. He will continue to be successful in whatever role the Dodger brass places him.
1997 You can succeed without great control, but if Osuna could just get on top of that fastball a little bit more, he might be completely unhittable. Right-handers hit him as if they were Raffy Belliard’s sick cousin Willy.
1996  He's got a great fastball, unfortunately without a lot of movement. Had one particularly long, bad outing at the beginning of the season, which trashed his first half; he bounced back nicely to have a strong second half, and should be the main setup man in the pen in '96. He had an especially great winter in the Mexican League as a closer, not allowing an earned run all season.
