2013 One of the early positives of Lipka’s career is his status as a hard-working diamond rat. The Braves tested him in 2012 by moving him from the infield to center and pushing him to a new level despite his struggles in 2011. He responded well, hitting better and showing enough in center field to have people buy into him sticking there for the long haul. Lipka’s best attributes are his quick bat and quicker feet. If he continues to progress, he should find himself batting near the top of the order in the near future.
2012 Selected with the supplemental pick received for losing Mike Gonzalez, Lipka forewent a football scholarship at the University of Alabama to sign with the Braves. His introduction to Low-A ball went poorly—save a strong September—and proved that he still remains more projection than results. Blessed with tremendous bat and foot speed along with an above-average arm, Lipka could turn into something special if he hits on all cylinders. That seems unlikely, however, as he is still unrefined at the plate and in the field in part because of his previous dual-sport commitments. He's a hard worker, though. The Braves may elect to push him, and had him play center field during instructs—possibly a prelude to a position change.
2011 The Braves' top pick in 2010 draft, Lipka is a phenomenal athlete who would be catching passes for the Alabama Crimson Tide had he not signed for $800,000. He'll never be a power hitter, but he can run, throw well, and showed a surprisingly advanced approach at the plate in his brief pro debut. Many Braves officials feel his name will be much more well-known following his full-season debut at Low-A Rome.
