DateQuestionAnswer
2014-04-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)The security of a contract extension doesn't seem to be helping Yunel Escobar perform. Can Hak-Ju Lee unseat him before the extension is up?
(birdzfan52 from Baltimore)
I don't think the extension has anything to do with Escobar's performance. Lee has a long road back from a very serious injury, and depending on how much stock you put into defensive metrics, Escobar is an above-average player. Personally. I think those metrics overrate Escobar and he's just average, so sure, Lee could replace him at some point. Even if he's not named the starter outright, Joe Maddon loves using his bench. (Ben Carsley)
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Since all my workers are distracted from working by your chat today, who will now be the top Rays prospect given the graduation of Wil Myers, Chris Archer, and injuries to Taylor Guerreri and Hak-Ju Lee?
(Da Boss from Bossland)
Good question. As you mentioned, graduations and injuries have killed them at the top. Of course, that's a good thing with the graduations, as Myers and Archer have played a key role (along with other guys like Torres) in the Rays contending this season. It might still be Lee. Jesse Hahn is up there if they can keep him healthy. He's not going to be no. 1 in their system this offseason, but Ryne Stanek was a great value pick with upside, I thought, and he's absolutely one to watch. (Jason Cole)
2013-08-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)With Taylor Guerreri down with TJ, Hak-Ju Lee also hurt most of the year, who is now the new Rays number 1 prospect?
(Mike from Tampa)
Well, I will preface this by saying the graduations of Wil Myers and Chris Archer have been very positive this year. Odorizzi has contributed just a bit as well. But it's no doubt a system in transition right now with the graduations and now injuries. I'd have to think about it a little longer on the no. 1 prospect. Ryne Stanek wasn't exactly the model of consistency at Arkansas this past spring, but he can flash the pure stuff to at least be in that discussion once he gets going. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Other than Myers and Hak-Ju Lee, the Rays system seems to be quite barren offensively, even with the huge 2011 draft where they had 10 or so first round picks. Any break out position-player prospects ready to make "the jump" in the Rays system this year?
(Jaime from Orlando)
I'm not sure if we're talking about making the jump to elite prospectdom or anything like that, but Andrew Toles had some helium around him this spring and it's carried over to a strong start. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Hak-Ju Lee? Will he be Tampa's long-term solution at SS?
(Steve G. from STL)
The reports on Lee's glove are strong. The defense is solid and can push as above-average at the major league level. He's a bit light with the bat for me, but think given the defense and the premium position, he can hit in the bottom of a lineup and hold down the position as a regular. (Chris Mellen)
2012-10-16 14:00:00 (link to chat)After Profar, rank in hotness the next level of upcoming minor league short stops from a list of Francisco Lindor, Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Hak-Ju Lee, Trevor Story, and Carlos Correa.
(Paul from DC)
Baez, Lindor, Russell, Story, Correa, Lee, but I'm assuming you're asking me to rank them purely be physical attractiveness. (Ben Lindbergh)
2012-04-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)How is Hak-Ju Lee more blocked than Tim Beckham? They are in the same organization.
(Chris from KC)
Lee is a level below Beckham in the org. (Bradley Ankrom)
2012-04-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Can you rank the following shortstop prosepcts with respect to their ETA: Machado, Franklin, Hak-Ju Lee.
(Bob from Toronto)
I doubt we see any of those three this season, but next year is fair game. I'll go Franklin first, then Machado, then Lee. (Derek Carty)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)besides lindor and profar, who else projects to be a top-flight SS in the minors?
(jungy brogan from northwest)
Nobody else. Machado could play the role for while, but he might end up at 3B. I like his bat more than either Profar or Lindor. Hak-Ju Lee has the stuff to stay at the position, but he isn't in the same class. It's a very rare group; a top commodity in the game. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Kolten Wong the 2B version of Hak-Ju Lee?
(Today from Tomorrow)
They're almost nothing alike. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-08-16 17:00:00 (link to chat)Which prospect in the minors do you see taking the biggest leap in the minds of prospect rankers in the next 365 days..
(Matt from NYC)
I think Hak-Ju Lee was that guy if you look at pre-season to mid-season. Looking at mid-season 2011 to mid-season 2012, um, err, um, a flier on Chih-Hsien Chiang with Seattle who proves that 2011 isn't a fluke. (Jason Collette)
2011-06-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Rays SS in 2014: Hak-Ju Lee or Tim Beckham?
(Imperialism32 from NJ)
I don't think Beckham profiles as a major league SS. I'll go with Lee (Jason Parks)
2010-12-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see any remaining upside for Blake DeWitt or is he just a very marginal starter at 2B?
(Matt from Chicago)
The latter, I guess. The fact he's left-handed helps, but he's a placeholder until the Cubs sign somebody else, or Castro moves to second when Hak-Ju Lee is ready. (Ken Funck)
2010-07-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Which direction do you see the Cubs going in for 2b once the Theriot era mercifully comes to an end? Please make it end!None of their middle-infield prospects appear big league-ready.
(Matt from Chicago)
Long-term, the idea might well be Castro at 2b, making room for Hak-Ju Lee. But that's quite a way off. I'd love to see them sign Orlando Hudson next year, actually. Bigger question for me is actually this: why is Theriot starting ahead of Fontenot? Isn't that a pretty obvious platoon? (Ken Funck)
