| 2012-02-09 13:00:00 | What royals were ranked in Keith Law's Top 100 prospects...Position? (Pat from KC) | I have no idea. (Seriously, I haven't checked yet.) And if I did know, I'd probably suggest that you subscribe to Insider to find his results rather than telling them to you here.
On that note - KG's top 101 will be out on Monday. (Colin Wyers) |
| 2012-01-26 13:00:00 | So next time I'm in Ft Worth, where SHOULD I go for the best BBQ? Visit often, as my grandparents live there. (Johnny from San Diego) | Ask Keith Law. Kidding of course. Don't ask Keith Law. I really like Railhead BBQ. It's not fancy, but the brisket is delicious and they offer Ranch Style beans, which is the key to my heart. (Jason Parks) |
| 2012-01-26 13:00:00 | Who wins in a WWE Steel Cage Match between Keith Law and Kevin Goldstein? (Marissa from Florida) | Keith would get pummeled in 30 seconds and then write a review of the event. KG would take to the internet and live tweet the celebratory meal he was preparing. I'd just laugh and judge from the sidelines. (Jason Parks) |
| 2012-01-26 13:00:00 | It appears Keith Law is a great cook based on his website and twitter account. Have has ever cooked a meal for you? If so, was it actually good? (Marcus from Kansas) | Keith Law has never cooked for me. (Jason Parks) |
| 2012-01-12 13:00:00 | Who would win in a MMA fight between Keith Law and Kevin Goldstein? (R.A Wagman from Toronto) | I've never met Keith Law in person. But I'm worried about how the fedora would stand up to a blow from a skillet or a wok or whatever cooking tool Keith is likely to have sneaked into the cage. (Mike Fast) |
| 2012-01-30 13:00:00 | Who wins in a UFC match between Keith Law and Kevin Goldstein? (Zooe from LA) | Fighting? Far more interesting to hear them debate almost any topic.
...I am freezing, by the way. I just thought I would mention that. (Steven Goldman) |
| 2011-11-30 13:00:00 | Who wins in a steel cage match between Keith Law and Kevin Goldstein? (Boosty from New Orleans) | those of us who buy tickets. I look forward to the cooking portion of the duel. (Jay Jaffe) |
| 2011-11-16 13:30:00 | I am standing on a ledge right now. Please tell me Melky won't be a defensive disaster in CF next year. (Tbirds from Seattle) | I wish I could, but I thought Keith Law had the best line about this: "When I call Cabrera a fourth outfielder, that doesn't mean the Giants get to play three others alongside him to make up for all the balls he won't catch." (Ben Lindbergh) |
| 2011-11-16 13:30:00 | In an unexpected turn of events I decided to climb back in my window and off the ledge simply because Keith Law's line is so amusing. (Tbirds from Seattle) | Keith Law and Ben Lindbergh: lifesavers. (Ben Lindbergh) |
| 2011-10-31 13:00:00 | Yep, you guys were right, that Rasmus trade was a disaster (yes, I am pointing my championship ring finger at you Keith Law) (Mo from st. louis) | He doesn't work here anymore, hasn't for years. Personally, I liked the Rasmus trade and said it was what the Cards had to do at the time. R.J. Anderson was a little bit more critical in his take (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=14641) because he saw the long-term damage the trade would do... Which isn't wrong given that you can't assume a championship as of July 27. (Steven Goldman) |
| 2011-10-17 13:00:00 | Keith Law said that
(richardkr34 from Saint Paul, MN) | This is easily my favorite question of the day. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2011-08-17 13:00:00 | Who wins in a MMA style match between you and me? (Keith Law from Arizona) | Keith Law bites. Everybody knows this. This is why nobody fights MMA matches with Keith Law. (Sam Miller) |
| 2011-07-29 13:00:00 | Who would win in a UFC match between you and Keith Law? (Kate from LA) | I adore Keith, but he's like 5-5 or 5-6 and I'm guessing 150-160. I'm 6-2, 225 and have bouncer experience. Total mismatch. He's crush me at Carcassone. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2011-06-06 23:00:00 | Thoughts on the two Rangers picks? I don't get why we keep taking guys who would probably be available in round 2 or 3. (gwdunbar from Austin, TX) | Because teams take guys they like. Let me makes this clear. The Rangers or the Rays or the A's or whoever really couldn't give a rat's ass what myself, or Keith Law or Jim Callis think about a guy. That's who they like. I understand the Matthews pick, he's a Rangers kind of guy w/ a very clean arm who might be undervalued. As for Cone, I just don't get that one. (Kevin Goldstein II) |
| 2011-02-28 13:00:00 | Dee Gordon at 84 vs BA ranking of 26 seems like a huge disparity. What do you see differently then Baseball America? (PimpDaddy from NY) | Let me start by saying that I have nothing but respect for the lists of BA, Keith Law and Jonathan Mayo. They do their homework, they talk to people in the game, and they're done by smart people. We all have our different sources, we all have our biases and philosophies. I just don't think Gordon is going to be a well-rounded enough player to rank him that high. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2011-02-28 13:00:00 | How much, if at all, do you talk with other prospect evaluators who also publish lists (e.g. BA) before you all publish? Do you isolate yourselves from each other those final couple weeks before sending your lists to publication, or is there any level of opinion and information-sharing? (mattcollins from boston) | I would definitely call Keith Law and Jim Callis friends, and we certainly talk baseball, but I know that we all put up walls when we do rankings. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2011-03-02 13:00:00 | You've been around this BP block for a while. When did Keith Law become a scouty guy? Did he gain access to the Jays as a stats guy and then learn the scout trade once inside? (CrisE from St Paul, MN) | I suppose I can afford a dry chuckle over the fact that a lot of things have changed since the early days, but KLaw obviously put his opportunity with the Jays to good use--mastering basic sabermetrics isn't rocket science, but learning about life on the other side of the tracks from the inside once he got there makes him one of the most valuable sabermetric commodities on the face of the planet. (Christina Kahrl) |
| 2011-01-05 13:00:00 | Over the past 10 years, the Internet has provided an excellent forum to state HOF cases for underappreciated players. Do you think there is a possibility for a player like Raines to pull a Blyleven or Rice and gain enough sentiment to get in on their final year of eligibility? (jhardman from Raleigh) | I'd like to believe Raines will get there before his 15th ballot. The voting body is evolving. Folks like Keith Law, Rob Neyer, Christina Kahrl, myself and a whole lot of other Internet-based writers who would have been ineligible five years ago could be voting on his candidacy well before his 15th year. (Jay Jaffe) |
| 2010-09-13 13:00:00 | Hey Jay ..... thanks for the chat. Have you recovered from the "5-Napkin Burger" Friday night?
Who is the current leading candidate for the "Irrational Exuberance" HOF candidacy? In other words, who might be the next Jim Rice? (dianagramr from NYC) | Hey Diana! It took me awhile to recover from the 5-Napkin Burger, but maybe that was all the beer I drank trying to get through the Yanks' drawn out loss later that night.
Right now I'd have to say that it's Omar Vizquel's candidacy that leaves me cold. Keith Law wrote about it at length using JAWS numbers I supplied (http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=law_keith&id=5410459). The short version is that Vizquel's defensive numbers don't measure up to the average Hall of Fame shortstop let alone those of Ozzie Smith, nor does his bat: Ozzie Smith: 90.9 car/50.2 Pk/70.6 JAWS/.261 TAv/554 RARP/219 RAP/255 FRAA Omar Vizquel: 47.8/27.8/37.8/.247/334/-16/84 AVG HOF SS: 70/47.9/59/.274/477/204/105 (Jay Jaffe) |
| 2010-07-01 14:00:00 | Keith seems to not be a Brett Jackson fan at all. Give me a reason for optimism, something like Keith Law is wrong, he's short, and he's a terrible dancer. (Cross Checking from KLaw's Chat) | I go back and forth on Jackson, but you can't argue with what he's doing. Like I wrote today, no killer tool, but no bad ones either. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2010-07-01 14:00:00 | I know Caston is our best SS prospect but that's not really saying much is it? We don't exactly have the best ss prospects obviously. He wasn't even on people top 200 lists and he went 32? Am I missing something? (19Yanks23 from Lamcaster Ca) | You are missing a ton. We talked about this on the podcast, but who's Top 200 lists are you talking about? Mine, Keith Law's? Baseball America's? Perfect Game's? All do great work, but do any of them have better information on the kid than the Yankees, who have had him on their scout team for two years straight and got like 30 in-person views this year from probably six different scouts and front-office officials? I mean seriously, who the hell are we to say that's a 'bad' pick considering that? (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2010-06-07 18:30:00 | Keith Law said in his chat earlier this afternoon, "I think this is the worst crop of draftable talent since I got into the business full-time in 2002."
Is it really that bad of a draft class? (Cult of Basebaal from Pasadena of Los Angeles) | I think Keith can make that argument, it's not a great class at all. Definitely below average. (Kevin Goldstein) |
