2014-03-19 20:00:00 (link to chat)Ryan Kalish --- leadoff hitter for the Cubs by May 15th?
(pobothecat from whatever)
Oh man I'd love to see that, but no. A Kalish revival would be a fantastic story though. (Bret Sayre)
2012-11-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jason. Will the Red Sox give Ryan Kalish a full-time job or does the organization view him, like Josh Reddick before him, as a major league player but not good enough for Boston?
(michaelmcduffe from ottawa)
: I think Kalish will get the chance to earn at-bats this year, even if the Sox re-sign Cody Ross and add a third outfielder to put on the other side of Ellsbury. He has to stay healthy first, but he can be a starting-caliber corner bat in any town, and I suspect he’ll get that shot in 2013, since it's asking a lot to expect Cherington to land two outfielders this winter. (Jason A. Churchill)
2012-04-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Ryan Sweeney breaking out at age 27, or are we seeing an anomoly. Do you feel Valentine will continue to give him the same level of playing time he's been seeing?
(NJTomatoes from Bend Oregon)
Anomaly. Sweeney is solid, especially in AL-only, but we're dealing with a guy who's boasting a .533 BABIP. Everything else is pretty much what we've come to expect, so the BA will come down. He'll play for the time being, but Ross will cut in when Crawford comes back, and Ryan Kalish could well overtake both of them by mid-season once he gets healthy. (Derek Carty)
2011-03-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Brandon Allen is worth drafting as a reserve outfielder/First Baseman in NFBC format or is Ryan Kalish a better option?
(bfitzge3 from Upstate NY)
The 1B/LF mix in Arizona bears watching. Branyan is a known mix of strengths and weaknesses, Miranda looks like a platooner, Parra is a 4th OF, and Nady is already having mobility issues. Allen is the only guy in that entire mix capable of winning and keeping an everyday job at either position, so he's probably worthy of a late reserve pick in NFBC. I like to use my bench on extra SP's and priority backups (C, MI) though, so his true draft-day value will be determined during spring training. (Cory Schwartz)
2010-08-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)After an abysmal first half, Josh Reddick has been on fire since the break -- 368/396/647 -- is it time for Boston to give him another look?
(Nick from Allston, MA)
He'll get a call in September, and given Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury are both out of commission, he'll get some at-bats. Ryan Kalish passed him on the depth charts and prospect lists this year, but as Boston reminded us this year, there's no such thing as too much depth, and they are as curious as we are as to what they have in Reddick. (Marc Normandin)
2010-04-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Does Ryan Kalish ever become a starter in the Boston organization?
(jaymoff from Salem, OR)
Tough one. I think he and Reddick are both big leaguers, but being good enough to play in Boston every day . . . that's a much higher bar to get over. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-08-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Howdy JP, would like your opinion... The best PTBNL the Sox would send for Wagner is a better/worst prospect than Ryan Kalish... Thanks for your answer!
(mo from vegas)
Worse. (John Perrotto)
2009-08-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Ryan Kalish's month compares well to Dominic Brown and he's actually a half year younger. Brown ranks significantly higher everywhere. Are they that far apart?
(Chris from Boston)
Brown has more in the tools department for sure, not that Kalish isn't toolsy. They're both fine prospects, but Brown is definitely better. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-04-08 15:00:00 (link to chat)Ryan Kalish: Are you still on the bandwagon? Does he show some power this year or was that a LoA mirage?
(Aaron from YYZ)
Bandwagon. Wrist injury sapped him this year, and I expect a bounceback season. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Ryan Kalish was my darkhorse to be the Red Sox top prospect 300 or so days ago. While I may have missed on that, and clearly passed by Reddick, has he made any doubters this season, will he make your Sox top 10? If not is it a testament to the Sox depth?
(ken from mass)
For teams that are NOT done yet, I only have this kind of organic snapshot on a spreadsheet I keep that is filled with notes and stuff. They don't really solidify until the days/weeks leading up to the publication when I start all of my conversations with scouts and officials and stuff. So with that caveat, as of RIGHT NOW, he's still on my Top 10 list -- with some wiggle room. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-08-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)You were really high on Ryan Kalish coming into the year, but his numbers have been depressed coming off hamate bone surgery. Do you still see good tools there, once the lingering effects of the surgery wear off?
(astein from Boston)
Absolutely. (Kevin Goldstein)
