BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2013 Unlike Adams, who was drafted one round before him in 2008, Joseph doesnít have the range or arm strength to play on the left side of second, which makes his path past Triple-A murky as long as Cano remains in the Bronx. However, he showed enough power and plate discipline after his June arrival in the International League to look like a second-division starter candidate for a team with no star second baseman, which could translate to a trade.
2012 "Corban Bleu's" 2011 rates don't seem impressive until you realize that the Eastern League as a whole hit only .259/.339/.395, that he was playing at Trenton (where he hit better than he did on the road), and that he was coming off wrist surgery. The Tennessean can hit a little bit, but he's not going to be challenging Robinson Cano on offense or (particularly) defense any time soon. Darwin Barney, on the other hand, could be feeling some pressure if Joseph ever breaks free.
2011 This 2008 fourth-rounder out of Franklin, Tennessee got a taste of the bright lights of Trenton, New Jersey after David Adams went down. Joseph struggled to hit, then required surgery on his right wrist and was knocked out of both the Eastern League playoffs and winter ball. On the plus side, he didnít get mugged. Joseph has a sweet line-drive swing and a decent respect for the strike zone, but the wrist had better come back quickly, as defense isnít Josephís calling card. Fortunately, at 22 and with Cano in front of him, he doesnít have to go anywhere quickly.
2010 A 2008 fourth-round prep pick, Joseph's story is very similar to that of David Adams. He's shown some ability to hit that shouldn't be taken for granted in a middle infielder, but his defense at second has been problematic. If you can't field at second and can't hit like a third baseman, you've got nowhere to go but home, which in Joseph's case is Franklin, Tennessee, sight of a famous but utterly useless Civil War battle in which Confederate General John Bell Hood intentionally marched his army under the Union guns. There's a metaphor in there, but it's probably better applied to the Marlins than the Yankees.

Highly doubtful. (Kevin Goldstein)

(Matt from Chicago)
I did until I saw the Haren trade, and that Christina projected him to bring back, ahem, Corban Joseph. Frankly, if that's all they'd get for him, I'd prefer they keep him and offer him arbitration. It's only money, after all, and if he accepts it's not the end of the world. (Ken Funck)
