2013 Remember David Eckstein? Of course you do. Holt might be the closest thing around these days. Hes short and gritty, hits for average, and shows a knack for getting on base. The difference is that Eckstein got a chance to start at shortstop in the majors. Holt hasn't had that chance, and doesn't figure to get it any time soon with Drew on the roster. Holt has options left, so if he can't catch on as a utility man, he'll get to know Interstate 95, which will take him into and out of Pawtucket.
2012 Brock Holt's stock dropped with a letdown season. His future is at second base and his grit is off the charts, but he has to hit for average and draw walks to make up for a lack of obvious tools.

2014-09-15 19:30:00 (link to chat)Brock Holt versus Jackie Bradley Jr. versus XB versus Mookie Betts. I see three spots at best for them (although I suppose that Napoli, Victorino, Ortiz, Cespedes and Vazquez could round out a lineup, squeezing out Craig, Middlebrooks, etc.) Who do you see missing the cut?
(prophet from Undisclosed)
Bogaerts isn't sitting for anyone, and Bradley isn't starting over anyone. Betts is either going to start in RF next year, start in Pawtucket and wait for someone to get hurt or get shipped off for pitching this off-season. The guess here is Victorino or Craig gets moved, Betts starts in RF and Bogaerts at SS, with Holt on the bench and Bradley in Triple-A. (Ben Carsley)
2014-08-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who makes up the Red Sox infield in 2015?
(Jim from Boston)
Pedroia! So that's one. I have a hard time imaging they'll move Napoli, so he'll probably be at first. Bogaerts will be at short or third. I'm guessing third, but that's one of the things the Red Sox hope to learn over the next two months. At short then, Deven Marrero? Things are easier if Bogaerts stays at short both because third is an easier position to fill and because the team has Will Middlebrooks, Brock Holt, Garin Cecchini, and probably someone I'm forgetting. (Matthew Kory)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Rank these guys: Brock Holt, CJ Cron and Steve Pearce
(PJ from Boston)
Cron, Holt, Pearce. I'd watch to see if Cron is traded for an arm this summer, though. That would potentially change things. (J.P. Breen)
2014-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)In the very deapest of dynasty leagues, would you consider Kevin Kiermaier, Jesus Montero, Brock Holt, Brandon Barnes, Bobby Abreu, Eugenio Suarez, Rene Rivera, Steve Pearce, and Juan Lagares. In what order would you rank them of those you would consider?
(Donald from Orlando)
I'd look at Kiermaier, and Holt most among that group. Kiermaier has some nice PT with Myers down and Holt seems to be ready to play anywhere to stay in the lineup. There isn't a lot of disparity in the group, but for this year only, I'd still give Abreu a look, too. Beyond that, Suarez and Montero would be my next two. (Paul Sporer)
2014-06-11 12:00:00 (link to chat)I'm roughly as real as Daniel Nava was, right?
(Brock from Boston)
Oh, Brock... /swoons. Brock Holt the jack of everything, master of nothing for the Red Sox is hitting .341/.381/.472. I'm buying Nava more than Holt though. Nava hits right handed pitching well. I still believe that even though he's gotten off to a rough start. Getting shipped back and forth to Triple-A hasn't helped while Holt, because he's an infielder (or, today, maybe an outfielder) who could fill in for Will Middlebrooks got regular playing time. Holt has some skills, versatility, some pitch recognition, and also versatility, but he's got no power at all. He's not a starter, but he's a heck of a fill-in. One of the only guys in Boston hitting right now. (Matthew Kory)
