2014-07-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Torii Hunter, Denard Span, Ben Revere, Aaron Hicks, Byron Buxton, do the Twins have a fetish for this type of player or what?
(Ace from PA)
Athletic CFs? Who wouldn't? Though, the only real common link between these three is position, ethnicity, and a tie to Minnesota. Otherwise, they're vastly different skill-sets. (Paul Sporer)
2014-03-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)who's the post-hype sleeper we'll be talking about in 2 months as having been given up on too soon?
(Brian from MA)
I wish I knew. Aaron Hicks was so bad last season, but he's reportedly put on weight and looked better this spring. Maybe it's him. Or maybe it's one of the Mariners' myriad disappointing hitters. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-03-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are you holding out hope for Aaron Hicks to put it together or is he a bench bat?
(Michael from GA)
I think Hicks can still be fine. He was rushed last year and should have been in Triple-A. He also had some underwhelming years in the low minors early in his career. Unfortunately, he only has 2014 to turn it around before he's replaced by Byron Buxton. (Jeff Moore)
2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Is George Springer going to get enough at bats to win AL Rookie of the Year? Who do you like for the award?
(Frank from Houston)
Hi Frank:

My guess is Springer gets a mid-season call-up and would have to put up incredible numbers to win the award if that's the case. I'm terrible at these sorts of questions; I picked Aaron Hicks last year for BP's preseason projections. I'll go with Jackie Bradley just because I can see the playing time for him and think he'll be solid. (Mike Gianella)

2013-06-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you make of the Twins decision to stick with Aaron Hicks when most organizations would have him perfecting his game at AA or AAA .What do you think is the best approach in his case ?
(Spirou from Montreal)
Hicks is now on the disabled list with a hamstring strain, but in general, I think the Twins might have been a bit overzealous following his impressive spring. Hicks had a nice breakout year in Double-A, but his 56 strikeouts in 190 plate appearances do suggest that some more seasoning is needed. On the other hand, the Twins know their players better than we do, and it's possible that what they know about Hicks tells them he'll be better off in the long run if he makes the necessary adjustments on the fly. (Daniel Rathman)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for taking the questions. What are your thoughts on the Twins' Arcia? Will he stick in the majors? Thanks.
(Dave from Boston)
He could be a nice hitter long-term. I don't know if he'll stick all season. They've given Aaron Hicks a longer leash than I would have, however, so it's possible they do the same with Arcia. (R.J. Anderson)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Speaking of Aaron Hicks, he seems to be improving a bit lately at the plate. What are your thoughts on his long-term MLB potential?
(Jim from Minneapolis)
Hicks is a frustrating talent. The physical tools are there for him to become a very good player but what I saw during the early going was a mess. If I went karma-defunct and woke up after six years to learn that Hicks was bouncing around the minors still it wouldn't surprise, nor would him making an All-Star game or two. Maybe he'll split the uprights and become a functional big-league player who frustrates fans with his inability to put it all together for good. (R.J. Anderson)
2013-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on why Aaron Hicks is struggling so badly? Just nerves & bad luck or something more?
(jdmurphy from Rochester)
Hey jd, thanks for joining us. I think the main problem for Hicks is that it's very hard to hit big-league pitching. R.J. Anderson had some thoughts on Hicks' struggles last week that I encourage you to read. Short version: He may need more time in the minors. (Geoff Young)
2013-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Some of my fantasy guys are really struggling early. What's your short and long term prognosis for Mike Moustakas? Will Aaron Hicks relax and stick around? Does Lorenzo Cain have what it takes to be a star? Leonys Martin?
(Jim from Seattle)
I like Moustakas, although he's taking his time to develop. Then again, he's only 24, so he's got time. Hicks we've covered, Cain is useful but not exciting. Martin seems like a high-risk/high-reward type, but the sample is so limited at the big-league level, I don't have a good feel for him yet. (Geoff Young)
2013-03-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jackie Bradley and Aaron Hicks. Who has a bigger impact this year and long term?
(Klochner from MN)
Different skill sets -- Hicks is more physical and profiles as a speed/power guy. Bradley is a bit more instinctual, with the game coming to him a little easier, profiling as an OBP over SLG offensive player. I'd say pick'em, but Bradley is probably a safer bet with a slightly lower ceiling. (Nick Faleris)
2013-03-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Harry, Do you think Aaron Hicks will initially struggle and get sent back down or does he have a good year and stay up for good ?
(Paul from St. Paul)
For sure he'll struggle at times but eventually stick. How the Twins handle him is another question. (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-03-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Lots of exciting young outfielders getting a shot this year. Of this group who do you like best for 2013 and beyond?: Lorenzo Cain, Leonys Martin, and Aaron Hicks.
(Jim from Chicago)
I like 'em in that order. (Paul Sporer)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)George Springer vs Aaron Hicks. Who has louder tools and ceiling?
(George Springer from Houston)
HIcks and Hicks (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)In what order would you rank the future fantasy prospects/production of: Aaron Hicks, Jackie Bradley, and Rymer Liriano?
(Kai from SLO)
Liriano has the most raw offensive potential of the trio, but I'd put my money on Hicks ultimately providing the most fantasy value. (Mark Anderson)
2012-12-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Daniel. In your opinion is Cleveland really going to play Lonnie Chisenhall and if so what do you think he is capable of? Also in this vein is Mastroianni going to be the CF placeholder to start the season in Minnesota at least until Aaron Hicks proves he can hit AAA pitching and is called up? Thank you.
(michaelmcduffe from ottawa)
Hi, michaelmcduffe. Given the state of the free-agent pickings, I do expect Chisenhall to start the year as Cleveland's third baseman, perhaps with Mike Aviles spelling him against some left-handed pitchers. He should offer solid defense and enough bat to be a passable regular, with a chance to become above-average down the road.

Meanwhile, the Twins don't seem to be in any rush, so Mastroianni-to-Hicks appears to be the plan. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-06-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)When I think about the Twins picking Byron Buxton all I can see is Aaron Hicks. Can Buxton pitch? Tell me reassuring things about the great potential of youth.
(Cris E from St Paul, MN)
He may have the most potential of any player in this year's draft. If Houston opts for Appel over Buxton and Minnesota takes the latter with the second pick, I think the odds of your being pleased with that selection in five years are very good. (Bradley Ankrom)
2012-02-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Did you struggle in omitting Aaron Hicks from the list?
(Corey from Marina Del Ray)
Not really. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-02-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)I'm trying to understand Aaron Hicks, the level of tools versus present performance. Any scouts outside the organization still believe the tools will translate?
(Vic Griffin from Minnesota)
Plenty of them do. The tools are almost too much too deny in a lot of ways. Double-A will be a HUGE test for his future. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-01-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)Should we give up on Aaron Hicks? His numbers are pathetic, but prospect-rankings have kept him in the top 50 for 3 straight years.
(Bucky from NY)
The dream provided by the tools will eventually erode from out minds unless the production increases. It has to happen so or its time to push him down the prospect queue. (Jason Parks)
2011-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any signs of life from Aaron Hicks in the AFL?
(AaronSF from CA)
Nope. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-10-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Casey Kelly in that Aaron Hicks category? Looks great, but the performance doesn't seem to be there. Is there still #2 upside with him or is he more of a innings guy in your opinion?
(BrowningNagle from Louisville, KY)
Yes. He's the starter on the "Why Isn't This Guy Better?" team. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-10-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Most scouts still rave about Aaron Hicks' tools, but what's the deal with him, why are the numbers not there?
(Kyle2099 from St. Paul, MN)
Great question. If I knew that answer, I might be able to convince a team to hire me. It's difficult to appreciate the failures of a player without seeing that player in person on a regular basis. I can look at the scouting reports and my brief in-person exposure to him and tell you that the tools are sexy, but the transition from tools to skills is a struggle. I wish I could provide a more detailed response, but the honest answer is that I'm not really sure why the tools aren't turning into production. (Jason Parks)
2011-09-02 14:00:00 (link to chat)You said about Aaron Hicks that sooner or later we need to see results and not just be talking about the tools. I don't think that's the first time I've heard that said about him. Should Twins fans be worried?
(cooldude from Mpls)
I think a bit of worry is more than fair at this point. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's happened to Aaron Hicks? Has the star all but fizzled?
(NTubrinski29 from Minny)
Just finished writing about him for my CF article. Out of the ten industry voices I polled on the subject. all ten thought Hicks belonged high on the list. The tools are just too good to ignore, but the production needs to start showing up. (Jason Parks)
2011-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)When Aaron Hicks was drafted, did he have any plus offerings? Did he project well as a hurler?
(Mike White from SoDak)
Guy threw 97 off the mound. Could have been an early pick as a pitcher, but the overall package was too much to deny as an outfielder. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-01-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, love the chats. Now that my Fiesta Bowl passing record is safe, who do you think is the top breakout candidate for 2011 from this list: Aaron Hicks, Wilmer Flores, Jonathan Singleton.
(BrowningNagle from Louisville, KY)
A. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-08-20 15:30:00 (link to chat)Aaron Hicks has put together a solid season. Do his tools finally breakout next year in the FSL?
(Drew from NY)
I'm tired of saying he's solid. Next year, it's time for some production. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-07-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Kevin, love your chats! Were bigger things expected from Aaron Hicks this year? He seems to be producing an exact duplicate of last year in A.
(Yoopie from Winnipeg)
More was definitely expected out of him, but he's still spectacular at times, and one has to think that we'll begin to see 'that guy' more often. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-04-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Which minor league assignment surprised you the most? Dee Gordon to AA? How do you think he'll fare there?
(Steve from Clearwater, FL)
This was my most surprising high assignment, Aaron Hicks at Low-A was the surprising low one, with him staying at Low-A Beloit. Obviously, Leake in the big leagues enters the picture if we include the majors. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-11-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Most likely starting CF for the twins in 3-5 years, Ben Revere or Aaron Hicks?
(Corey from St. Paul, MN)
I like Revere, but I love Hicks. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-03-19 15:00:00 (link to chat)Aaron Hicks & ________ are the guys I should be excited seeing play for the Beloit Snappers this year?
(jlebeck66 from WI)
Angel Morales -- could be huge. (Kevin Goldstein)
