BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2012 Several teams preferred Kris Harvey as a pitcher coming out of Clemson in 2005, but the Marlins tried him in the outfield before finally taking the bat out of his hands after a .148/.228/.287 showing in Double-A in 2008. He's spent the last two years trying to get over the Double-A hump, but he could factor in the bullpen if he learns to keep the ball in the yard.
2010 As a hitter, 2005 second-rounder Kris Harvey washed out, but Bryan Harvey's son throws low-90s heat, so a conversion to pitching began in '08; after a good first half he wore down to deliver a mixed first full season in '09. He's a project, but one already on the 40-man.
2008 The Marlins' second-round pick in 2005, Kris Harvey has been the same undisciplined hitter in the pros that he was in college, just without the power. He'll eventually try pitching to save his career.
2007 Homers are pretty easy to come by in Greensboro, so don`t drool over Harvey`s slugging just yet; his rates translate to a .564 OPS, which doesn`t signify a prospect. It`s not surprising that the two positions he`s tried thus far have been third and right field, because his best defensive weapon is a cannon arm that used to hit 97 when he pitched in college. He hasn`t taken to the offensive side of the game, so it`s still possible that he could end up a pitcher like his dad, Bryan, who closed for the inaugural 1993 Marlins.
2006 A pitcher and outfielder at Clemson, Harvey went to the Marlins in the 2nd round of the 2005 draft and became a full-time position player. The Fish tried him at third base, but with Cabrera on the bag now, it`s unclear that he`ll stay there. Harvey has real power but his plate judgment needs more refinement than a barrel of Iraqi crude. Harvey is the son of fragile Marlins closer Bryan Harvey, so this will be our first chance to see if durability--or lack thereof--is in the genes.
