YearComment
2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 Signed before the season as a minor-league free agent, Gomez spent much of 2012 raking for Triple-A Pawtucket (960 OPS). Then Adrian Gonzalez became He Who Can Get Boston Out From Under Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford, and Gomez got the call. James Loney came the other way, but since James Loney hit like James Loney with a colony of monkeys living on his face, Gomez was pressed into service. He proved surprisingly adequate. He can play first base defensively and shows good power, but struck out roughly once a game during his minor-league career, a trend that figures to continue in the bigs. That inability to make contact limits his ceiling. Better Than James Loney is fine, but itís not what a contending team should settle for.
2012 Mauro Gomez is a chubby first baseman who keeps hitting well enough to stay on the radar, just not well enough to be considered anything more than organizational depth.
2011 Mauro Gomez is a fat first baseman with a good stick and doubles power, but when you're a fat first baseman, good needs to be great and doubles need to be home runs.

Because he's not good enough is probably the most logical answer (Jason Parks)
