BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2012-01-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which pitchers stand out as personal favorites that never panned out like you thought they would?
(PepeShady from St Paul)
Bret Saberhagen. Kevin Appier. I was sure both of them would be Hall of Famers. Though if Jack Morris gets in, I may start pushing their candidacies a little harder. Apparently you never know. They can get back on the ballot, right?

More recently, I had high hopes for Brett Anderson. I guess he may yet fulfill those. Erik Bedard...I sense a theme. I've been a big Gavin Floyd fan for a while, and though he's been good, he's never broken through to great. On a much lower tier, Chad Gaudin. (Mike Fast)
2010-09-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Given how dominant Albaladejo was in Triple A (yesterday notwithstanding), did the Yankees wait to call him up so long merely because of issues with number of options left, or was there something else?
(Ethan from New York, NY)
I'm not sure what to make of Albaladejo's limited usage at the big-league level thus far except to note that Kerry Wood's arrival and subsequent strong performance came right as it looked as though he might get his first real shot of the year. I still think he can help this bullpen more than, say, Chad Gaudin. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-11-02 15:00:00 (link to chat)The yankees have to just win one out of three games. Why not start Gaudin tonight against Cliff Lee, and have Burnett on full rest +1 for game 6 in the Bronx?
(Mike from Chicago)
Because A.J. Burnett/3 and Andy Pettitte/3 are better than Chad Gaudin/32 and A.J. Burnett/5. And because you don't get cute in the World Series. Well, unless you're up one run in the eighth inning. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-10-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Christina, Thoughts on the Yankees' rotation and roster for the ALCS? Any predictions?
(Eli from Brooklyn)
I'm probably one of the most outspoken fans of Chad Gaudin there is, but no way does he wind up with a Game Four start. I like the decision to carry Cervelli, given that they're going to start Molina a couple of times out. If there's a bit of waffling, it's whether they might want a pinch-runner, but with Hairston and Gardner around, they're not exactly without one already, and with Gaudin in the pen, they're not wrecked during one of the rare back-to-back ballgames if a starting pitcher exits early in the first one. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-09-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Jay, I'm pretty concerned about the Yankees rotation entering the postseason. The first round should work to their favor (assuming the enter with the AL's best record) with 2 days of rest and a 3 man rotation. However, if it comes to the ALCS and a 4 man rotation, what do you anticipate?? Will they even bother starting Joba at this point? Thanks.
(tbrown05 from vt)
I think yesterday's start might have sealed the deal on the team's first-round decision, given how awful Joba was, and assuming Pettitte comes back in one piece. Beyond that... well, it's been so long since the Yankees got out of the first round I'm not really sure what to expect. I do think the odds of Chad Gaudin getting an October start just spiked. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-04-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are Dallas MacPherson and Chad Gaudin going to get major league jobs after being recently waived? If so, where?
(Peeig13 from The Second City)
Gaudin can relieve for many teams, and will probably have his choice. The Rangers, Pirates, Padres, Nationals...he'll have options. I'm trying to understand how a team can release McPherson, then trade for Ross Gload. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)I've seen some projections that suggest it's the A's who are in the best position to take advantage of a stumble from Anahiem than the Mariners are. First, how credible is that? And second, if that is credible, how much worse does that make Bavasi's win-now plan?
(Evan from Vancouver, BC)
I don't see this at all. The A's are in full-on rebuilding mode, and behind Joe Blanton they need a lot to hope that Rich Harden, Justin Duchscherer, and Chad Gaudin are healthy. Add to that the need for sick-noters like Eric Chavez and Bobby Crosby to bounce back and I think we're at the point where it's far more likely Blanton gets shipped out at the deadline than the A's contend.

I'm not about to defend Bavasi, but I don't see the M's overtaken by Oakland this year. (Jay Jaffe)

BP Roundtables

DateRoundtable NameComment
2009-10-28 17:00:002009 WS Game OneAgree. Ask him how he feels Saturday morning. All you're doing is skipping the throw day, which no one is throwing at this point in the season (save Chad Gaudin) anyway. (Will Carroll)
2009-10-28 17:00:002009 WS Game OneNow that you mention the 9-man pens, will someone like Bruney (with the long layoff) get the Chad Gaudin treatment, where he's only used in emergencies or deep into extras and Girardi's running out of options? (Steph Bee)
2009-10-12 15:00:00Phillies/Rockies Playoffs RoundtableMaggie (Washington, D.C.): Given that the Angels have a better front four, their best lineup ever, and a better manager, why is everybody so convinced that the Yankees will win the ALCS?

Is their lineup REALLY that good? I see a lot of BA that might not happen against good pitching, not to mention some ill-considered baserunning. I'm not sure the front four is that much better. I guess Saunders is better than Chad Gaudin, but Sabathia/Burnett/Pettitte can be pretty good. (Steven Goldman)

PITCHf/x Pitcher Profile

A Collaboration between BrooksBaseball.net and Baseball Prospectus - Pitch classifications provided by Pitch Info LLC
