2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 A big right-hander with serious velocity, Font is listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds but checks in closer to 6-foot-5, 265. After missing the entire 2011 campaign due to Tommy John surgery, he opened last season at High-A Myrtle Beach and finished it in Arlington. The 22-year-old Venezuelan relies primarily on his heavy fastball, which sits in the mid-90s and touches higher in short bursts out of the bullpen. Font’s pedestrian secondary stuff and command should limit him to the bullpen long-term, but his lively plus-plus fastball could make him a powerful force in the late innings.
2012 A big-bodied Venezuelan hurler coming off Tommy John surgery, Font has the type of raw arm strength coveted by every team in baseball. When healthy, the 21-year-old can pump a lively plus-plus fastball on a steep plane, mixing in a breaking ball and changeup that has flashed above-average potential. Given the injury setback and the stalled development of his secondary pitches, Font best profiles as a bullpen arm—one that is capable of pitching at the major league level thanks to the quality of his fastball.
2011 The Ranger added flamethrowing starter Wilmer Font to the 40-man roster this fall, but after going under the knife for Tommy John surgery, his skill-set might be better utilized in the pen, where he can terrorize hitters with his mid-to-upper 90s smoke (assuming, of course, that he regains his once touted velocity).
2010 Wilmer Font is an imposing figure on the mound and one of the hardest throwers in the system, but he's still much more thrower than pitcher.

(TPX2 from Taiwan)
Kela has better stuff, which is pretty crazy to think about. (Jason Parks)

(Ann Nonymous from San Diego)
Back of the bullpen type. Maybe a closer, but most likely a setup guy. I'm a big fan of Wilmer as well. I've known him since he was 17. He was one of the largest 17-year-olds I've ever seen, and he was already throwing near-elite gas. (Jason Parks)
