BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2009 Not to be mistaken for Deutschland's greatest cover band of New Wave's greatest band, Duran was sucked into the infield mess created by various injuries to the famous people. Gifted with a quick bat that can get a bit pull-happy and working with an aggressive approach, he's a hacker with line-drive power. He might end up getting another opportunity after heading to winter ball to hone his hot-corner glove work; he has the arm for it, if not the other gifts you'd like, but given they were grooming him for a utility role, it's his best shot.
2008 Duran's 2007 performance was another shocker. He entered the year as a nondescript middle infielder and finished it in the Texas League's top five in eight offensive categories. Duran's greatest strength is his lack of weaknesses; he's a decent hitter with decent power and decent defensive skills, but doesn't excel in any one of those areas. He's going to get some work at third base and the outfield at Triple-A in order to give him some versatility.

2008-08-13 14:00:00 (link to chat)I take your Josh Hamilton point, but I think the division lies along the line of those who think addiction is a disease that is outside of the addict's control. Yes, Hamilton put himself in that position; but his disease made it immeasurably harder for him to dig himself out of it. That he did is commendable, and he should be held up as an example to other recovering addicts out there.

I agree on you're last two points completely, but you have to admit that the praise he's getting is far more than that. Whomever, so kind of normal player on that team who had no problems -- I don't know, German Duran or something is a far better role model, no? (Kevin Goldstein)
