BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2009 Once part of the minor league Three Amigos with Connor Jackson and Carlos Quentin, Jamie D'Antona had problems finding a defensive home and took too long to hit at the upper levels; Arizona didn't have much use for him, and now he's off to hit for the Yakult Swallows.
2008 Like Castillo, Jamie D'Antona can catch, but a strong arm has him trying (and failing) at third base; he's more strong than athletic, so he won't be the next B.J. Surhoff.
2007 Prospect. No, wait: Not a prospect. No, no: Prospect again. Sort of. D`Antona saw a little time behind the plate in the Arizona Fall League, which isn`t a bad idea; not much is expected out of NL catchers nowadays, and D`Antona`s best tool on defense is his great arm. His AFL stint didn`t go so well offensively, but his Tennessee time was promising, even if it was a do-over. D`Antona has a long swing that some scouts think is the main reason he wasn`t able to build on his promising year in Lancaster. Those scouts failed to notice that Lancaster is a great place to hit.
