YearComment
2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 When is it relatively easy to overlook a walk rate approaching 5.0? When the pitcher in question is a left-hander who throws 95-96 mph with a quality curveball and progressing changeup. Crosby is a power lefty who misses bats and generates grounders, but he lacks the command and control necessary to be a reliable starter. Age is still on his side, and given his vast upside, the organization will leave him as a starter for the foreseeable future. If for some reason the ability to find the zone never clicks, he has the fallback of becoming a high-leverage reliever.
2012 Crosby returned from recurring elbow problems and showed he was healthy enough to spend a full year in the rotation and could still miss bats, though his control remains a concern. A hard-throwing lefty with mid-90s heat and a big, looping curve, Crosby need only lower his walk rate to raise his ceiling as high as any pitcher in the system. Thatís far from guaranteed, however, and with his medical history the possibility of a move to the bullpen looms. If thatís his final destination, he has the stuff to be an asset in the late innings.
2011 Light workloads didnít keep elbow problems from once again shelving ultra-talented power lefty Casey Crosby; if he can't stay healthy when starting, he might still become a dominant bullpen force.
2010 Crosby has barely had a pro career, missing almost all the time since being drafted in 2007 to Tommy John surgery. He came back last year hurling 93-97 mph fastballs, a hard down-biting curveball, and a mediocre change. Like many other TJ survivors, his control was shaky, but it improved as the season went on. Teams didn't hit him for average (.195) or power (three home runs) all year, so once he got his control back he was totally dominant. Crosby was on very tight pitch counts last year due to the injury; the team may loosen up a little as he advancesóor they could go a different route, transforming him into a power reliever. With his stuff, Crosby has got definite closer potential despite being left-handed.

2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think about Daniel Corcino and Casey Crosby? What is their ceiling?
(boneil33 from Boston)
Realistically, solid set up guys. (Bret Sayre)
2011-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you still think Casey Crosby has a future as a SP? If not, would his stuff play up enough in a bullpen role to be a plus late inning reliever?
(bretsayre from nyc)
I think he would make a better reliever, just because the stuff could be near elite in bursts. He could be a legit setup arm in relief. (Jason Parks)
2011-06-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)Casey Crosby....will the continuing arm issues force him to the bullpen eventually? Or will they continue to have him start until the arm blows up again?
(lemppi from Iowa)
I definitely could see a bullpen move in his near future. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-01-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Happy New Year KG! Whats the outlook for injured prospects Jared Mitchel, Ryan Westmoreland, and Casey Crosby?
(Jquinton82 from NY)
What up James! Mitchell looked very rusty in Arizona, and it's bothersome because he's the kind of prospect who really needs reps as a player who is quite raw for his age. There is still no official timetable (if any) on Westmoreland, but he was doing some hitting off a tee in the fall. As for Crosby, he's also firmly in that mystery category, and on a medical level, his elbow LOOKS fine, but he could never throw without pain. We won't know how he is until this spring. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-11-09 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Casey Crosby merely a bonus now for the Tigers if he ever materializes? Or do you think there is still a fair bit of hope?
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
Just a strange year for him, surprised he never had surgery, so now, I'm just left anticipating it. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-05-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you hear about a timetable for Casey Crosby? Is he ever going to meet his potential or will injuries continue to hinder him?
(achaik from ME)
