2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Pick one to develop as a starter: Matt Wisler or Eddie Butler
(rogero from philly)
Wisler. Jason Cole has been able to put eyes on Wisler throughout this season, from camp to the Texas League, and the reports have been stellar. If the delivery doesn't negatively affect the command or the utility of the change-up, Wisler is going to stick around in a rotation. (Jason Parks)
2013-03-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are Appel and Manaea locks for 1 and 2 at this point?
(mike from bahfiston)
No, but they continue to be in the discussion. I have been lighter on Manaea than most, and I know my opinion isn't unique among area scouts in the region. But a decision this high up is in many cases divorced from the foot soldiers, and a whole lot of top level evaluators saw Manaea really good on the Cape.

Likewise, Appel turned some heads with back-to-back shutdown performances earlier this spring (after a really, really bad start that Jason Cole, Kendall Rogers and I took in down at Rice). He checks off most of the boxes for a front-end, top-of-the-draft kind of arm, but I'm still waiting to make sure those Fresno/Texas starts are going to be the new baseline, and were not just a couple of one-offs against struggling offenses. (Nick Faleris)
2013-03-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Nick, was wondering if you've seen Jonathan Gray yet and what you thought of him? I read about the UCLA coaches comparing him to Cole and was curious if the comp holds any weight for you? Also, is the conditioning a major concern?
(Matt from NJ)
I've seen two of Gray's starts via HD game tape, but not in person yet. The plan was to see him against Oklahoma St., but it looks like I might have a newborn on my hands almost that exact weekend, so I am going to see what alternate plans I can make (maybe in tournament play later on). If you aren't already, follow Jason Cole (@LoneStarDugout) on twitter, who is a member of the BP Prospect Team and will be seeing Gray live against Baylor in the coming weeks.

As for the Cole comp, it isn't appropriate. Both throw hard and have good sliders, but Cole's changeup was well ahead of where Gray currently sits, and Cole also mixed a cut variation on his slider for a different look. I might go along with Junior Gray is on par with Sophomore Cole, but even that isn't really great. The biggest concern evaluators will have with Gray is figuring out how much of the new look is long term sustainable, which means lots of peaks between now and draft day. (Nick Faleris)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)What are some of the names that you were most surprised to hear championed by the other BP guys for inclusion?
(brian206 from Brooklyn)
I found it weird that Chris Mellen wanted me to include 30 Red Sox prospects; Jason Cole 30 Rangers prospects; etc. In all seriousness, those guys were extremely valuable when constructing this list, along with everybody on the MilB team. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2013-02-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on the following arms, as far as ceiling and likelihood to reach it: Taylor Guerrieri, Tyrell Jenkins, Victor Sanchez and Jose Castillo
(Kai from SLO)
I'm getting a ton of prospect questions from Kai, among others, and while I truly appreciate that you thought me worthy of answering them, I feel I'd be doing a disservice by not redirecting you to the far superior sources of prospect knowledge at BP. I'm not a scout, and I don't get to a ton of minor-league games, so much of my prospect knowledge comes from A) looking at stats, which offer an incomplete picture of minor-league players' potential, and B) reading the work more scouting-inclined prospect writers produce, at BP and elsewhere.

I could just rehash what I've read or tell you what the stats say, but you'd get a more complete picture by going to a primary source. Jason Parks, Nick Faleris, Mark Anderson, Chris Mellen, Jason Cole & Co. are always willing to answer questions promptly via email and on Twitter. (Ben Lindbergh)
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)Your a big texas guy. Cj edwards is another prospect who receives little attention. Could he make the jump to being a top pitching prospect?
(tigerw701 from mpls, mn)
If you read Jason Cole's work at LoneStarDugout.com, he's been all over Edwards since he signed. I've seen him pitch several times and its promising. I'm not get crazy about it yet and I don't see him becoming a top pitching prospect, but I really like the stuff and its most certainly a draft success. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-26 13:00:00 (link to chat)You down with LSB?
(Naughty By Nature from One Hit Wonderland)
I like the site, yes. Adam Morris does an excellent job of keeping fans of the Rangers informed and offers them a platform to react (overreact) accordingly. Fans of the team have great resources for info from guys like Adam, Jamey Newberg, Scott Lucas, and Jason Cole. They have it all covered. (Jason Parks)
2011-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Cole?
(#TheLegendOf from The Hidden Temple)
Jason Cole, from LoneStarDugout? I think he knows more about the Rangers system than anybody. He's an aggressive/cheap FIFA player, though. He enjoys getting red cards. (Jason Parks)
2011-08-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)okay , stupid question , I'm almost embarrassed to ask , but what the hell is #want? I'm actually a .9 er ( but not an original) but don't recall any discussion of #want. Maybe its something that's you've been twittering about?
(oldave from dryden, ny)
#want isn't a part of podcast mythology; rather, it stems from my buddy Spike and our FIFA battles with Jason Cole and Jorge Arangure. It's childish, I know. (Jason Parks)
