2016 Once a corner-infield backup who could chip in catching on the sabbath, Chirinos continued to solidify his role as a solid if not spectacular backstop for the Rangers in 2015. With Jorge Alfaro now in the Phillies' system, Chirinos will have first crack at the head of a job-sharing arrangement at a minimum and could crack 100 games for the first time if his health permits. What you've seen of his offensive performance is assuredly what you'll get.
2015 The 30-year-old late bloomer (and late catcher) was a forgettable piece of the Matt Garza-to-the-Cubs trade before becoming the first player ever to be traded from Tampa Bay to Texas. Chirinos, who has one of those names built for a pun-laced fantasy team, began the season third on the depth chart behind the plate, but found plenty of playing time due to Geovany Soto's lack of health and J.P. Arencibia's lack of baseball skills. In fact, Chirinos wound up putting together a season not unlike what was expected from the man whose job he took (good power, low OBP), with the huge exception of his above-average defense. Jon Daniels came out early in the offseason in support of Chirinos as the full-time catcher in 2015, but his leash is not likely to be long and he'll be brushed aside soon enough if Jorge Alfaro is who scouts think he is.
2014 The Rangers are persistent when it comes to getting their guy. According to Peter Gammons, they tried to acquire Robinson Chirinos from the Cubs in the 2010-11 offseason, planning to then package him with Derek Holland, Engel Beltre and Frank Francisco to the Rays for Matt Garza. That deal fell through, but the Rangers snagged Chirinos prior to the 2013 season, and stashed him in Triple-A as their third catcher. A.J. Pierzynski's injured stint and an overall lack of bench bats resulted in Chirinos spending more time in the majors than the team would have preferred, though his actual playing time was limited. Chirinos offers versatility by playing the corner infield spots as well as catching, and will likely be squirreled away in Round Rock in 2014 as insurance, though he has a shot at sticking as the last guy on the bench if the coaching staff likes his bat in spring training.
2013 Robinson Chirinos lost his entire 2012 season to the disturbingly persistent aftereffects of a spring-training concussion, and his age puts the converted infielder's career into double jeopardy.
2012 Part of the haul the Rays got in return for sending Matt Garza to the Cubs. Chirinos had received praise for his defense and an improving bat while with the Cubs, but only one of those attributes came with him. He continued to hit lefties well (.312/.369/.468) in Durham but his defense received mixed reviews. Chirinos was called up just after the break when both John Jaso and Jose Lobaton went on the disabled list. Chirinos looked overmatched both at the plate and behind it, as his developing footwork and release allowed baserunners to steal at will. A broken wrist in winter ball probably hampers his arrival in the bigs, as well. With options to spare, Chirinos most likely starts in Triple-A.
2011 The Venezuelan infielder was eight years into his gig as an organizational soldier when the Cubs decided to move him behind the plate in '08, giving him a career path that might now land him in the bigs. (They did likewise with his catching partner at Double-A, Steve Clevenger, and received a pair of interesting backstops for their efforts.) Chirinos has made progress in mastering the finer points of receiving, and last year gunned down 32 percent of stolen-base attempts. Good-hit backups are a rare enough commodity behind the plate, so pegging his future as that of a second-stringer sells him short, but keep in mind that he's spent parts of the last four years at Double-A—take last season's bopping with a few grains of salt.
2008 Robinson Chirinos can take a walk, but he'll likely fall victim to the "Rexrode Threshold," as his insufficient power will allow pitchers at higher levels to throw him more strikes, thus decreasing his walk rate. Still, his glove isn't bad, so he could make it as a utility player.

(LittleRon from WV)
Assuming a 15-team, one catcher mixer I like Wilson Ramos (people are suddenly shying away from him) and Robinson Chirinos. In a two catcher format, Geovany Soto and Jarrod Saltalamacchia are backups who could push their way into enough time to be better than the bottom end guys who are playing every day.
