2009 Something of a problem child, Eric Campbell has moved slowly since being drafted in the second round in 2004, but he finally managed to combine plate discipline and power in 2008. With Jon Gilmore (included in the Vazquez trade) out of the way, a successful jump to Double-A this year would make him a reasonable in-house candidate to replace Chipper at the hot corner.
2007 Campbell led the Sally League in homers in 2006, then had a solid try-out at second base in the Hawaiian Winter League, making his potential trajectory to the majors especially interesting. He`s a couple of years away, and by the time he`s ready the Braves will have a better idea if they have more need for a second or a third baseman. Campbell needs to improve his walk totals and work on his tendency to try to pull everything, but he`s got some serious pop in his bat.
2006 In the words of Homer Simpson, `I have two questions: `How much?` and `Give it to me.`` This 2nd-round 2004 pick tore up the Appalachian League, leading the circuit in several major offensive categories. He`s got a long swing--`unbridled,` as one analyst puts it--and his plate discipline could use a bit of work, but at that age, whose couldn`t? Shifted from shortstop prior to last season, his defense at third base is considered very good. There`s a lot to recommend him as he moves upward.

2008-01-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Eric Campbell - will he bounce back?
(Travis from San Diego)
There's more than just a physical bounceback needed. There need to be some more effort and desire there as well, and that can't be taught. (Kevin Goldstein)
