BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2010 Brooks Brown was traded to Detroit so the D'backs could keep Rule 5 pick James Skelton, but hasn't shown enough velocity to handle the upper minors.
2009 Brooks Brown entered the year as one of the better pitching prospects in the system, but he hit a wall at Double-A, and many scouts now see him as a reliever.
2008 Brown was a closer at the University of Georgia, but Arizona had designs on making him a starter when they drafted him in the supplemental round in 2006. It looks like a smart decision thus far as he reached Double-A in his full-season debut last year. He's a classic sinker/slider pitcher who is still working on a changeup, but, even without one, he was still effective enough against left-handers to avoid getting into too much trouble. He projects as somewhere between a third and fifth starter.
2007 Brooks Brown is a sinker/slider pitcher who was moved to the bullpen after an extended college workload (he went to the College World Series with Georgia). He`ll need a changeup if he`s going to make a successful move back to the rotation.

DateQuestionAnswer
2008-01-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)You had Brooks Brown, Juan Gutierrez, and Billy Buckner ranked 4th,5th, 6th for the D backs as 3 Star prospects. How far away are any of these guys from cracking the top 100? Are there any "3 star" prospects in the top 100?
(shoewizard from Scottsdale AZ)
The list for consideration was about 130-140 long -- and none of those three were on it. There are a handful of 3 star guys at the end. Basically, I wanted five-star to represent Top 50 candidates, and four-star to represent Top 100 candidates, but it didn't really turn out that way because the talent is down. (Kevin Goldstein)
