2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 Barnhart, a former 10th-round pick out of the same Indiana high school that produced Lance Lynn and Drew Storen, has good plate discipline but little power. Barnhart did almost all of his damage from the left side of the plate last year, and three of his six homers came in a six-game stretch in June. Behind the dish, he shows a strong arm (44 percent caught stealing in nearly 300 minor-league attempts) and solid catching mechanics.
2012 The Reds may have dealt catching in the Latos deal, but there's potentially more on tap in the form of Tucker Barnhart, a small catcher with a great arm (nabbing thieves at a 48 percent clip) and patience at the plate who passed his full-season debut with flying colors.
2011 Evidently, no one told Tucker Barnhart that the Reds already had enough talented young backstops. The compact catcher threw out over half of attempted basestealers while exhibiting Hanigan-caliber plate discipline in the Pioneer League, though he has yet to develop much power.

DateQuestionAnswer
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Tucker Barnhart? How do you evaluate and predict a catchers defensive ability, game management, and all those other "intangibles" for a catcher. Maybe those skills don't directly relate to fantasy, but I think they indirectly affect your pitchers (especially the young ones---see Yadier Molina). I guess what I am asking is who is the next (either in the 2014 draft or in MiLB) Ron Karkovice, Gary Carter, Jim Sundberg, Roy Campanella and in my humble opinion, Yadier Molina?
(Eli from Boston)
This is probably a better question for Parks and the MiLB crew here. I'm not super familiar with Barnhart, as he's not a fantasy asset. I can tell you that the best defensive catching prospect right now is Austin Hedges, and Mr. Hedges is not a Top 100 fantasy name. (Ben Carsley)
