2006 Lidle did what he was signed to do: take the ball every fifth day and give the thumpers in his lineup a chance to beat the hell out of the opposition. He was filleted at home--5.79 ERA, .323 BAA--despite having a home run rate 45 percent higher in away games. Lidle has a plain vanilla sinker, slider, and splitter, but he uses his curve effectively against righties and his plus change to retire lefties.
2005 Lidle is durable and keeps the ball down, which makes him a reasonable back-of-the-rotation fit for a team with a power-friendly ballpark and an offense good enough to win games on its own. The Phillies re-signed him for two years and $6.3 million. That's not a terrible price compared to some recent doozies, but pitchers with this sort of strikeout rate tend not to age well.
2003 Local sportscasters in the Bay Area are still surprised when the A’s go get someone who’s an inexpensive breakout candidate, he’s successful at a low price for a couple years, and the A’s let him go elsewhere and stock up on more good gambles. For those of you outside the SF Bay Area who don’t get to enjoy the uninformed rantings of the likes of Ken Dito and Joe Starkey, consider yourself lucky. When Lidle left, the brief response was that the A’s had given up trying to win, and were only interested in emulating the Calvin Griffith business model. Lidle was a great contributor, and he’s still a good bet to be a reasonable starting pitcher, but the A’s have better and less expensive options, like....
2002 Check out that "KW" column. Lidle has always been an effective pitcher when given the opportunity, and kudos once again to A's management for acquiring him and building an inexpensive winner. Lidle has great control and keeps the ball down, and he adapted well to the heaviest workload of his career. Art Howe handled him masterfully, limiting his time in each game pretty harshly as the season went along. There is absolutely no reason to expect Lidle to suddenly fall off a cliff.
2001 Cory Lidle looked like a nasty power/ground-ball pitcher in his rookie season with the Mets in 1997. His elbow had other ideas, and Lidle missed the next two seasons having, and rehabbing from, surgery. He's still a strong ground-ball pitcher, and his second half was highly encouraging. The team needs to pick a role for him and stick with it; high-leverage, multiple-inning outings seem like they will fit him best. He was traded to Oakland in the Grieve deal, and is expected to compete for the A's fifth-starter job.
2000 Like the Red Sox, the Devil Rays have a habit of collecting rehabilitation projects, except that theirs don't have much upside. Lidle is coming off Tommy John surgery and will be part of the group grope for long-relief work this spring.
1999 Power groundball pitcher who looked like one of the better Expansion Draft picks, but missed most of the season with shoulder and elbow problems. If healthy, he joins the cast of thousands fighting for jobs bailing out Brian Anderson.
1998 Rescued from Budland, Lidle looks like he’ll be consistent and effective for some time as a setup man. Similar to Jeff Nelson—devastating against righties and a buffet of homerrific delight against lefties. Delivery looks very solid to me, and he’s not been worked particularly outside of the one year in Binghamton. I don’t think his future is in any other role. Taken by Arizona in the Expansion Draft, his outlook doesn’t change much.
1997 He started in ’96 for the first time since 1993, when he worked for Pocatello’s co-op team in the Pioneer League.
1996  Traded to the Mets for Kelly Stinnett. He was fifth in the Texas League in ERA pitching mostly as a long reliever.
