| 2011-02-08 14:00:00 | What kind of line would you expect out of Aramis Ramirez this year? Last year was surely disappointing and someone is offering him to me in a fantasy trade for Michael Young and I am tempted... (What the Funck? from Funkytown) | I am unabashedly a big A-Ram fan, and I expect him to bounce back. His consistency prior to his injuries was amazing. I'd prefer him to Young, but I can certainly understand why others wouldn't agree. (Ken Funck) |
| 2010-10-14 13:00:00 | Can we expect Aramis Ramirez to rebound into form next yr? (Matt from Chicago) | His second-half went well (.276/.321/.526) so I guess that injury he went on the DL for was bothering him more than people suspected. Health is a skill too though, and Ramirez has missed significant chunks of the past two seasons. I'm more leery of him from that perspective than from a production one. If he's healthy, he'll mash. (Marc Normandin) |
| 2010-10-01 13:00:00 | John mentioned today that the Red Sox may be interested in trading for Aramis Ramirez if they can't sign Adrian Beltre- I'm thinking the Cubs should be all over this, especially if they don't have to pick up much (or any) of his salary. Considering Ricketts says they may decrease payroll, gives them some flexibility to sign Adam Dunn. Guess they have to come up with another third baseman though (Vitters?)...thoughts? (KRS from Loop) | At this point it doesn't look like Vitters is ready for AA, much less the majors. DeWitt could play third, and they could use some combination of Barney/Baker/etc. at second base (the Cubs organization isn't known for its lack of second basemen). Is it a GOOD idea? I dunno. It's hard to see a scenario where they contend next year anyway. (Colin Wyers) |
| 2010-08-17 14:45:00 | Will Aramis Ramirez finish up as a Cubbie? Do teams value him now that he's bounced back from his struggles/injury this year? (Peter J. Lish from Wrigley) | I don't think his 2012 option will be picked up and he'll finish his career with another team on a below-market contract, producing slightly above average offensively. (Eric Seidman) |
| 2010-07-29 16:30:00 | What was the statistical likelihood that Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee would both have 85 game collapses? Now that the real Aramis Ramirez has returned, can the real D. Lee be far behind? (Cousin Michael from Los Angeles) | Hi, Michael! Sorry about your Cubs...both of them were way below their 10th percentile projection so unless their collapses were not independent, so you know as well as I do there was less than a 1% chance that would happen. Of course, their rebounds are probably independent, too. I wouldn't count on a huge return from D. Lee...though he must be better than this, right? (Matt Swartz) |
| 2010-07-09 13:00:00 | I'm blinded by my Cubs fandom. Is Aramis Ramirez back now, or was it just a case of Snakes and pitching not mixing? (mcquown from Chicago) | Remind me next season that if Rodrigo Lopez is in the rotation to pick the team for last place. Ramirez wasn't terrible in June, though it's a small sample, and he's looked great since he came back, though it's also a small sample. Probably worth keeping tabs on or tossing a flyer to if he's available due to someone else giving up in fantasy, but I'm not convinced in the real-world yet. (Marc Normandin) |
| 2010-06-02 13:00:00 | What options do the Cubs have with Aramis Ramirez? Seems like too much historical production and cash left in that contract to sit or cut him? (Sour Lou from Dark Bar in Chicago) | I see a few questions about Aramis, and the answer isn't very upbeat I'm afraid. I thought Patrick Sullivan's take this morning was pretty interesting, and he came to the conclusion that Ramirez really is a bit lost at the plate. His sub-.200 BABIP won't continue, but he hasn't traditionally been a .300 BABIP guy either. I'd be worried, Cubs fans. (Tommy Bennett) |
| 2010-05-25 13:00:00 | Aramis Ramirez will hit ___ home runs this season and please do not say 4? (Sweet Lou from Windy City Doghouse) | 5? Seriously, he's in a deep hole. I'll say 15 unless his hand injury is so bad that it either alters his swing or lands him on the DL. (John Perrotto) |
| 2009-10-13 14:00:00 | Hi Christina- can Chone Figgins play SS? Wondering if the Cubs should try this, making Theriot a utility guy (assuming Baker is the everyday 2B). Thoughts? (KRS from Chicago) | I think it's been far too long for Figgins to see him as a shortstop for anybody; I frankly don't know how well a move back to center would go, assuming they make Bradley go away and would be willing to put Fukudome back in right. From your comments, it seems as if Theriot's issue is his thorough adequacy, in a lineup that didn't get enough Aramis Ramirez and had to deal with Soto, Soriano, and Bradley delivering so much less than expected. That's not on Theriot, or at least it shouldn't be. (Christina Kahrl) |
| 2009-06-15 13:00:00 | Is there a real chance that Aramis Ramirez' injury will recur, will need surgery sooner rather than later, and that he won't contribute much this year at all? (Mike from Chicago) | Chance? Yes. The shoulder has some internal damage and if it's lax, then yes, it could pop out again. I don't think they'll let him back if they feel there's a significant risk, but remember that the injury was a bit of a fluke. He fell in just the wrong way with the wrong force and pow, his shoulder's out. (Will Carroll) |
| 2009-05-14 13:00:00 | Has the prognosis on Aramis Ramirez been updated at all? I've heard August being thrown out there...that's, what, 12 weeks away. Is the separation really that bad? (Henry from NJ) | It was a dislocation, not a separation. Ok, demo ... cup one hand, kind of shallow, like a crescent more than a "C". Make a fist with the other and put it in the cupped hand. That's your shoulder. If the fist moves up to the edge of the cup and pops back down, that's a separation. When it comes completely out of the cup and a doctor has to come PHYSICALLY MANIPULATE THE ARM until it pops back in, that's a dislocation and yes, it's as painful as it sounds.
Now, the dislocation is over. It's back in joint. The real problem is what damage did it do? I'll refer you back to UTK for that explanation. (Will Carroll) |
| 2008-11-07 13:00:00 | Thanks for the chat Joe. I haven't seen any mention on the site of Aramis Ramirez winning the NL Hank Aaron award. Maybe it deserves no mention, but seeing that it was a fan vote, it can't help the movement to add more voters to the other awards voting pools. (jtrichey from Indianapolis) | I snuck a mention into one of the extra bits I did for SI.com during the Series. Basically, if the award for the best/most productive/whatever hitter in the league lands on the 19th-best hitter in the league, it ends up looking like a joke. The fans had *a* vote, but I believe their vote was one of many. In any case, you don't build credibility by handing out an award this badly. (Joe Sheehan) |
| 2008-07-03 13:00:00 | Evan Longoria or Aramis Ramirez...who do you think will be more productive the rest of the year? (Matt from Bloomington, IL) | Ramirez. (Jeff Erickson) |
| 2008-06-23 12:00:00 | Do you think this weekend's performance finally puts Aramis Ramirez on the national stage? One All Star game? That screams underrated, then again the fans shouldn't be voting anyway, but that is a whole other discussion. (Goose from Chicago) | Personally, being from Pittsburgh, I've known how good Ramirez is for a long time. He loves the chance to be in the spotlight. While there may no such things as clutch hitting, he seems like to hit with the game on the line. I do think he will finally get his due this year, though. He showed this past weekend just how good he can be. (John Perrotto) |
| 2008-06-03 13:00:00 | As a cub fan it's kind of funny, but Aramis Ramirez has been here 5 years and I've hardly ever seen him quoted or interviewed. Probably my favorite cub hitter to watch, what's he like off the field? (Mike from Chicago) | Very quiet. I get along with him great. You're right, he flies under the radar. He's one of the best players in the game today and doesn't get enough credit because of what you mentioned. (Len Kasper) |
