2016-06-16 21:00:00 (link to chat)What's Mallex Smith's dynasty value like? Should I sell high? could he do .260 5hrs 35sb the next couple years?
(bradmorgan27 from DC )
He definitely has value because of the speed, but I think .260 may be the on the high side for his average and he's more likely to be a bottom of the order hitter. Think Billy Hamilton but without the game-changing stolen base potential. (Bret Sayre)
2016-02-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can Mallex Smith have similar value to Billy Hamilton? Great defense and elite stolen bases numbers when on base? Or can he be even better?
(Matt from ATL)
I haven't heard anyone say his speed is on par with Hamilton's. I doubt it will play to the degree Hamilton's does, in terms of steals or range, in the Majors. But yes, he could be much better than Hamilton, because he has an approach at the plate. A .350 OBP with good speed, which is possible for Smith, blows away what Hamilton does offensively. (Matthew Trueblood)
2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Little bit deeper, but what are you thoughts on Mallex Smith - ATL and Thomas Eshelman - PHI?
(SPG from LA)
Love the speed with Smith. I would be buying in on him now. (George Bissell)
2016-01-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)Mallex Smith looks like a 4th OF type of guy to me with questionable routes and weak arm but has a Jaun Pierre upside, your thoughts?
(WisBrave99 from Wisconsin)
He'd really have to elevate his game to get to Pierre, and he's going to have to do more than the .339 OBP he put up in half a season in Triple-A to get that chance. (Mike Gianella)
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would you even bother owning Mallex Smith in an OBP dynasty league? He seems to get on base all the time.
(Bill from Earth)
Absolutely. Has shown an impressive ability to get on base at what, a .415 clip over ~500 A+ and AA plate appearances in the last two seasons, and the speed might be a true 80 grade. (Wilson Karaman)
2015-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can Mallex Smith hit like this in the majors? Could he be the leadoff hitter for the Braves next year?
(contori66 from Indianapolis)
No I don't think so. There's a lot to like about Mallex, mostly the energy he brings to every plate appearance, chance in the field, etc. He's fun. But I don't think he's going to hit enough to play every day and if he does, it shouldn't be as a leadoff hitter. Perhaps he could bat 8th on a good team. I think he's a 4th outfielder/energy/platoon/glue guy on a good team. (Jeff Moore)
2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat)Mallex Smith or Roman Quinn?
(jeff from san berdoo)
I'll go with Quinn here. (Mauricio Rubio)
2015-05-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Mallex Smith the future CF for Atlanta? What kind of impact can he have at the big league level?
(Brian from Orlando)
I don't think so, I have too many questions about the tools outside of the speed. Maybe he becomes the good version of Michael Bourn, but I think fourth outfielder who can impact the game with his wheels is a more likely scenario. (Christopher Crawford)
2014-10-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who were some players that impressed you the most/least out in Arizona?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
- Mallex Smith has a plus glove in the OF and plus speed. Not sure if he ever hits, but that's a 4th OF type at the very worst.
- Brandon Drury looked the part
- Hunter Renfroe shows serious power and his BP was the best. The hip torque and drive he gets while demonstrating plus bat speed and whipping the bat head through the zone, it's just so impressive. We shall see if he hits enough to allow the power to play up.

- Sam Wolff looked the same as when I saw him early in the year. I can't trust the secondary arsenal (CB,CH). Had a hard time finding a release point or arm slot for both. Reliever all the way for me, but could see issues if he can't consistently piece it together with at least one of those pitches. The CB is much further along.
- Chad Wallach had pop times over 2.00 and has below-average tools across the board. Nothing different from when I saw him with Greensboro (where he hit .321/.430/.476) (Tucker Blair)
2014-07-22 15:00:00 (link to chat)What were the hit/power/run/glove/arm tools you've seen this year in the MWL?
(Tommy from Chicago)
Hit: Brett Phillips? Not many good options, here
Power: Schwarber/Frazier
Run: Mallex Smith
Glove: Penalver
Arm: not yasiel balaguert (Jordan Gorosh)
