BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2017 Due to publishing agreements, the 2017 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2017 book (available in hardcopy, and soon e-book and Kindle).
2016 Welcome to the crafty-left-hander club, where every eligible young thing has limited stuff and sea-level upside. It can be pretty tough to succeed with such a skinny strikeout rate, but Merritt has found a way to post solid minor-league numbers with the tools he has at his disposal. The southpaw possesses three solid offerings, and his command is exceptional, especially with his fastball. If he ever finds a way to turn his slurvy breaking pitch into an out-getter, he could certainly convert his success in the low minors into a semi-regular job as a back-end starter. The ceiling is low hereā€”the best case scenario is a late-career Mark Buehrle with a nice uniform number. The worst-case scenario? He pulls a Keyser Soze and like that... he's gone.
