2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Which group sucks less? Anthony Alford, Rusney Castillo, Manuel Margot, Brett Phillips, Nick Williams,Spencer Adams, Mark Appel, Dylan Cease, Josh Hader, James Kapeielian, Triston McKenzie,Vince Velasquez or Blake Swihart, Jon Singleton, Dansby Swanson, Alex Jackson, Clayton Blackburn,Tyrell Jenkins, Rob Kaminsky, Zach Lee, Keuy Mella, Justin Nicolino, Aaron Nola, Tyler Jay. God these teams are awful.
(Clark from The 19th Hole)
The first group, but you're right, but they're both bad. (Mike Gianella)
2015-11-05 12:00:00 (link to chat)In what order who of the following will give the most MLB impact. Who would be the must haves Max Kepler Brett Phillips Luis Ortiz Nick Williams Josh Hader and Clayton Blackburn.
(OB1 from Tampa)
So I'll start by saying that you should ask the prospect team this as well, but that's an interesting list of names. I'm not super high on any of the pitchers honestly, I think the position players are a cut above them here.

I really like Kepler, I think guys with good hit tools are routinely underrated if they don't have loud other tools. Williams will be a solid corner OF guy but the bar is so high offensively that I hope he'll hit enough to become a first division guy.

Brett Phillips is probably the top guy here, I think he has the potential to be a star down the road. (Jeff Long)
2015-07-28 18:00:00 (link to chat)Clayton Blackburn ... what kind of ceiling does he have at this point? And does Kyle Crick ever seem like he's going to find his control? Even in the pen, there hasn't been much improvement.
(delatopia from the 415)
Blackburn's still a likely 4 starter if it all breaks well. There's just not a lot there stuff wise. I hate to say it but I can't ever see Kyle Crick throwing strikes consistently. (Mauricio Rubio)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Despite a strong close to the season, and an overall strong season in a hitter's league, Clayton Blackburn recently got a tough ranking in another publication for the Cal League. Is some of the shine off his prospect status...or is there a difference of opinion on him?
(bzalaski from Cbus)
He had a good season. The ceiling isn't crazy, but he's still a very good prospect that was pitching in a very difficult league. I'm not going to blast other publications because I disagree with their rankings or their process. But I would have ranked him much higher. (Jason Parks)
2013-07-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you do when a trade comes along that blows your whole rebuilding timeline up? I was planning on a 2016 beginning and was offered Kemp for some draft picks, D'Arnaud and Clayton Blackburn. You gotta take that right?
(captnamerca from Dunedin, FL)
Yeah, I'd take that. A healthy Kemp will be a stud before 2016. Any time the timeline moves UP is a good thing. I'd *hate* to wait ANOTHER two years after this. (Paul Sporer)
2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Can you rank these guys please. Thanks! Marcus Stroman, Didi Gregorius, Jorge Alfaro, Austin Hedges, Daniel Norris, Lance McCullers, Bryce Brentz, Daniel Corcino, Clayton Blackburn, Delino DeShields.
(Brandon from Pittsburgh)
DeShields, Blackburn, McCullers, Alfaro, Brentz, Stroman, Hedges, Norris, Corcino, Gregorius. (Bret Sayre)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)Which pitcher will make a bigger impact in the majors: Kyle Crick or Clayton Blackburn? Seems that consensus is Crick has higher ceiling, but Blackburn is blowing projections out of the water with his advanced command and control...?
(Kai from SLO)
Blackburn has really excelled in the minor leagues and he looks like a good bet to contribute at the back of a Major League rotation. That said, if Crick continues to develop and approaches his potential, he has a chance to blow past Blackburn and max out as a number two or three starter. (Mark Anderson)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)Thanks for answering my other questions, Mark. If you don't mind, I'd love your opinion on another batch of pitching prospects - the next step down from the group I gave you earlier. If you had to order Brandon Maurer, Clayton Blackburn, Roberto Osuna, Henry Owens, Lance McCullers, how would you do that? Thanks again!
(BJ from Boston)
That's a pretty diverse group, BJ. My gut instinct would be to go Blackburn, Osuna, McCullers, Owens, Maurer, but I reserve the right to change that in the future! (Mark Anderson)
2012-12-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)Which minor league prospect do you feel has similar stuff, K%, BB%, GB% to Kris Medlen of the Braves? Clayton Blackburn? Thanks for the chat!
(John from Kansas City)
Hey, John. Professor Parks and the minor-league gang probably have a better read on this stuff, but if you're looking for raw peripherals, Blackburn does seem to fit the bill. Two others to keep an eye on: Rangers RHP Cody Buckel, who found a groove late after struggling initially in Double-A, and Padres LHP Robert Erlin. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-11-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Clayton Blackburn and Kyle Crick?
(sykklone from iowa)
Looking at the Giants' farm system, those two seem to be the only established prospects with much upside, sykklone, so I have high hopes for both. The Giants have a strong track record of developing power arms, so I trust them to do that with Crick, though his walk rates in the low minors are a bit worrisome. Blackburn seems like a high-probability mid-rotation pitcher, whose command and control will be enhanced by AT&T Park. I'd love to see both of them slide in behind Cain and Bumgarner within a few years, though I highly doubt either will be ready when the back of the rotation opens up after 2013. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Clayton Blackburn or Kyle Crick?
