DateQuestionAnswer
2016-04-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Does Trevor Story and/or Eugenio Suarez stay fantasy relevant throughout this season, or will they most likely be on/off the waiver wire?
(Ron from Texarkana)
They'll both be fantasy relevant, even if/when they do slip later this year. Shortstop is a fairly thin position, and while I expect both of them to slump, both should do enough in the power/speed department to maintain fantasy value even if the batting average falls. Maybe in 10-team mixed you might be able to eventually do better. (Mike Gianella)
2016-04-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)Can I get a pat on the back for acquiring Zack Greinke for Trevor Story?
(Jarrett from Gainesville)
Sure, you earned it. For what it's worth, Story went for $19 and Greinke went for $34 in my NL-only 5x5 keeper league on Sunday. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-04-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)What tool can I use to see a players earning year to date? The PFM works for past seasons and for projecting the rest of the season, but I'm not sure where to find earning season to date.
(Truganini from CO)
I'm not aware of any that would give you those numbers yet because I've never looked. The sample size is so small right now that the numbers would essentially be nonsense. Trevor Story, Tyler White and Jeremy Hazelbaker would probably be worth $50+ each right now. That knowledge is worth exactly $0, though. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)How much will Jose Reyes play this year? And if guys like Cargo, Blackmon, Hundley, LeMaheiu, McGee get dealt ..... Who gains value in Colorado? Not sure they have any other OF ready to step in this year. Dahl 2017.
(Bork from Lala land)
Impossible to guess what a Reyes suspension would look like. But I am thinking he plays 90-100 games and using that as a valuation baseline. If the Rockies clean house, the biggest gainers are Tom Murphy and people they acquired to back up like Ryan Raburn and Daniel Descalso. Trevor Story is the prospect who really jumps up. You're right, Dahl is likely 2017, so it's probably Raburn and Brandon Barnes for now. (Mike Gianella)
2015-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)No mention of Trevor Story? Thought he would have been in the 40-50 range.
(What's the Story from Morning Glory?)
I really like Story but he has some holes. He probably could have been a just missed guy but he'll be in the 101 discussion. He's going to be a nice player. Lots of good players not on this list. (Jeff Moore)
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are Rymer Liriano and/or Trevor Story back in the top 50?? 100??
(sykklone from IA)
Story certainly should be in the top 100, yes. Despite his swing-and-miss I haven't seen anyone question his ability to play a passable shortstop recently, and the offensive production in spite of the warts can still be very good. Liriano I honestly haven't heard a recent report on, though the production at AAA would suggest he'd be in the top 100 conversation. Neither are in consideration for our mid-season Top 50 that'll be out next week. (Wilson Karaman)
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)True or false: Trevor Story will be the Rockies SS by next June?
(Lenny from Hosting the party)
False. The Rockies won't be able to move Tulo until the deadline in July 2016 :) (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Trevor Story and Ryan McMahon??
(sykklone from IA)
Big big fan of Trevor Story. I think a lot of people got off the bandwagon when he didn't light the Cal League on fire in 2013. He has some holes that will lead to some strike outs, but I'm not too worried about it. He's going to do plenty of damage in between whiffs. When I saw him in the AFL this October, he was playing second base and he could be really good there defensively. I believe he can still handle shortstop, though the arm isn't a true asset there, or at least it didn't look to be in the fall. I believe Tucker Blair is going to get another look at him in the next week or two and we're going to try to decide whether or not he can stick at SS for sure or if he'd be below average there. Either way, the bat is above average at an up the middle position, and that's a rare profile in this game.

McMahon has his strong supporters and there's a lot to like there too. The big thing is that he has enough power to be an everyday third baseman, something that is becoming more and more rare in today's game. He has some contact issues as well and doesn't offer the up the middle profile of Story, but if he can ensure that enough of his power plays, he'll be just fine. (Jeff Moore)
2015-05-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story back on the top 100 radar for next year??
(sykklone from IA)
It's possible if someone believes in the bat now and sees an everyday guy. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-05-05 15:00:00 (link to chat)Trevor Story seems to have taken Double A by storm. Is this something we can believe in, or is this him repeating and performing?
(Cole from Colorado)
Story's ability to make contact is always going to be a point of contention when his name is brought up. When he's not striking out so much, he sometimes looks great and that's part of what's going on now. He still has 26 K's in 24 games, but he's done worse in the minors. In the fantasy realm, we can live with the strikeouts like him anyway for his power and speed tools. He's certainly not going to continue to hit .388, but the improvement in his numbers so far over last year is encouraging. (Nick Shlain)
2015-03-25 19:00:00 (link to chat)The Rockies are moving their Double-A team to town this year, which is, sadly, the last year of MiLB in New Britain. It looks like all the Rockies prospects are going to be one year away in Modesto. The cupboard really looks bare for the Rock Cats with Trevor Story the only top 30 prospect in the organization scheduled to be here and he hit .200 at Tulsa last year. Should I burn my season ticket book now or hope Dahl, Tapia, McMahon and Freeland get here in July?
(oldbopper from New Britain, CT)
I think you could view a bit of all four guys. I'd imagine you'll see the most of Dahl. (Jordan Gorosh)
2015-02-26 20:00:00 (link to chat)Deep NL Only dynasty: Christian Arroyo, Trevor Story, neither?
(Ryan Brown from Pgh, PA )
Story if you have to. No one should have to own Christian Arroyo. (Bret Sayre)
2015-01-15 18:00:00 (link to chat)The Twins have left town and the Rockies have moved in. Trevor Story is just about the only player I have read anything about who is headed here and he hit .200 at Tulsa. Is there any chance that Eddie Butler or any of the kids from the 2014 Asheville team might start the season here?
(oldbopper from New Britain, CT)
I don't see those guys starting the season in New Britain, but I would be surprised if you didn't see Dahl, and possibly even McMahon in Double-A at some point this season. (Mark Anderson)
2015-01-15 18:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Trevor Story? Will his contact rate prevent him from being a full time regular?
(Vic from Baltimore)
I've soured on the overall profile with Story and view him as more a utility player than a regular at the MLB level. (Mark Anderson)
2015-01-05 15:00:00 (link to chat)Hello Jeffery, who'd you like in the AFL this Fall?
(Chris from California )
Aaron Judge was very impressive. He was even better than when I saw him during the year, and I liked him then. The AFL was my first look at Trevor Story and I was more impressed than I expected to be. That guy is going to be a big league second baseman.

And don’t call me Jeffrey. That’s it. You get one. (Jeff Moore)
2015-01-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do think expect Trevor Story to be a regular MLB MI by 2016?
(Chris from Baltimore)
I think it's much more likely he wets his feet in 2016, with 2017 providing an opportunity to compete for an everyday gig. All assuming 1) continued development, and 2) that there is an opening on the roster. (NL West Top 10s With Nick Faleris)
2014-10-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)What is Trevor Story's upside?
(Ryan from Denver)
Just watched Story this week, and he sure does look like he is trying to replicate Troy Tulowitzki with that swing. Still has that little hitch and the hands/elbow move around too much. But damn did he have a good game when I saw him. Gets good extension and the bat speed is evident. I think the risk is still high, but Story is a major leaguer for me. It's easy to see the intrigue. (Tucker Blair)
2014-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story's bounce back season for real? Is he truly back? What do you see as his upside and when can he reach the MLB? K% seems a big high still, but what are your thoughts on him?
(Tyler from Alaska)
I spoke with a scout who mentioned his weird batting stance. He's square to the pitcher, but tilts his head and leans over about 25 degrees. He hasn't changed it, and whether that's the Rockies not doing anything about it or him just being stubborn remains to be seen. He's a SS with power potential, so I can't write him off. But I'd hesitate to expect anything more than a backup role. (Chris Rodriguez)
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)Rank these prospects in a dynasty: Rosell Herrera, Nick Williams, Blake Swihart, Daniel Norris, Trevor Story, Alen Hanson, Philip Ervin, Kennys Vargas, Steven Mats.
(Tim from NJ)
Nick Williams, Trevor Story, Daniel Norris and Blake Swihart are the big four of that group. I think everyone kinda rounds out the backend. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat. What are your thoughts on Trevor Story? His average is back up, but still striking out a lot.
(Gavin from The Hills)
You hit it right on the head, Gavin. The strike outs are going to be an issue, so he'll have to rack up the home run production in order to make it work. Strike outs are acceptable these days if they come with enough production. (Jeff Moore)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story reestablishing himself as a top 100 prospect? He's hitting over .330 with a lot of extra base hits and 20 stolen bases. Will he be a top 5 shortstop prospect by the end of the year?
(Chris from Baltimore)
Not for me. I need to see it sustained for a longer period of time, and in particular, I need to see it happen after he reaches Double-A. Reports on his swing and approach from last year worries me. I want to see it work for a longer period of time and against more advanced pitching. (J.P. Breen)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story jumping back up on prospect lists with his great start or is his K rate still to high?
(scott from az)
Another guy who looked better in camp. Story had a really poor 2013 season, and some players fold when they fail and some take steps forward. Story is a gamer, and he is showing the ability to make adjustments. I'm not quite as high on his long-term outlook as I previously was, as I was probably too high on him coming into last season. But he can play shortstop, has some skills at the plate, and has a high baseball IQ, so its possible that he will turn himself into a legit player one day. (Jason Parks)
2014-04-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story relavent again with his hot start?
(scott from az)
You'd have to ask Parks for the 411 on Story. I did like him entering the draft. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are you down on Trevor Story like Jason Parks is?
(Luke from Los Angeles)
I share many of Jason's opinions on Story. He struggled in 2013 and I had similar reports from scouts. There's still some upside there, but he has some work to do. (Mark Anderson)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Trevor Story - he seemed to right himself somewhat in the second half at Modesto after a brutal start. Is his stock down or unchanged from last year?
(xavier from texas)
His stock is way down. (Jason Parks)
2013-06-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Could you give any insight on this seasons struggles of Trevor Story?
(UTRMHefferan from Rochester NY)
I can't. I haven't seen him. Sorry. I do know that he's angering me because he was supposed to dominate so I could trade him for some studs in my NL only where I'm trying to stave off the bumrush of teams trying to kick me out of first. (Paul Sporer)
2013-05-29 18:30:00 (link to chat)Who are the top 5 Shortstops for future fantasy value?
(Tim Tebow from Canada)
Hi Tim. I hope you land on your feet.

This is a pretty broad question. I'm not sure if you're talking future value among all shortstops or value among shortstops that haven't reached the Majors yet. As far as prospects go, I would go with Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, Javier Baez, Addison Russell, and Trevor Story. Keep in mind that this isn't rating best prospects but best fantasy value. Story gets a bump for potentially playing half of his games in Colorado, for example; he's not a Top 5 SS prospect based on real life value. (Mike Gianella)
2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Odds Trevor Story ends up in 2B?
(Abnergreen from Puerto Rico )
Unless he borrows the shrink ray from Honey I Shrunk the Kids, it's pretty close to zero. If he doesn't stick at SS, he's likely a 3B because he has the arm for it. (Bret Sayre)
2013-04-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Better prospect Trevor Story or Alen Hanson?
(Garcia from The Hills)
Read this as "Better prospect story, Trevor Story or Alen Hanson." Was trying to figure out how to assess the value of each player's story. Finally got it.

Trevor Story is not as good at baseball as Alen Hanson, in my reading-other-people's-opinions opinion. (Sam Miller)
2012-12-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)What's the story on Trevor Story? He had a similar first full year to Tulo's first full year, plus about 50 more AB's. Can you please compare the 2 players? Thanks for the chat, Daniel!
(Jake from Colorado)
Story ranked atop our top 10 prospects list for the Rockies, and I'll defer to the minor-league staff's wisdom on his potential. From what I've read, I think that Story can be a quality everyday shortstop, but he lacks Tulo's power and impact defensive skills, so that's not really a fair comparison. If Story crosses paths with Tulo, he'll almost certainly be the one moving to second/third base. One thing to watch from Story as he moves up to High-A is how he tackles his issues with left-handed pitchers and offspeed stuff — two weaknesses that Jason Parks and co. mentioned in his writeup in the top 10 list. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Higher ceiling, Trevor Story or David Dahl?
(sykklone from IA)
Dahl for me (Jason Parks)
2012-10-16 14:00:00 (link to chat)After Profar, rank in hotness the next level of upcoming minor league short stops from a list of Francisco Lindor, Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Hak-Ju Lee, Trevor Story, and Carlos Correa.
(Paul from DC)
Baez, Lindor, Russell, Story, Correa, Lee, but I'm assuming you're asking me to rank them purely be physical attractiveness. (Ben Lindbergh)
2012-08-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Trevor Story's #s are on par with Xander Bogaerts and Story seems more likely to stay up the middle. What is the knock on Story? Splits? Lack of power projection?
(rrvwmr from Chicago)
1. I'm not as convinced Story stays up the middle as you are, as he could be more of a third baseman. 2. Playing in Asheville helps your numbers considerably. 3. He is brutally bad right now against LHP. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-06-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story going to be able to continue as a SS in the Colorado system with Troy Tulowitzki blocking his progress? Or is this another potential situation like Profar having no place to play but being good enough to facilitate a trade?
(jhardman from Irvingite)
Tulo is only blocking Story at the major league level, and Story is playing in the Low-A Sally League at the present. It's not an issue until its an issue. If you can develop a player as a shortstop, you develop a player as a shortstop. Deal with the problem when it actually becomes one. (Jason Parks)
