2014-10-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)What is Trevor Story's upside?
(Ryan from Denver)
Just watched Story this week, and he sure does look like he is trying to replicate Troy Tulowitzki with that swing. Still has that little hitch and the hands/elbow move around too much. But damn did he have a good game when I saw him. Gets good extension and the bat speed is evident. I think the risk is still high, but Story is a major leaguer for me. It's easy to see the intrigue. (Tucker Blair)
2014-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story's bounce back season for real? Is he truly back? What do you see as his upside and when can he reach the MLB? K% seems a big high still, but what are your thoughts on him?
(Tyler from Alaska)
I spoke with a scout who mentioned his weird batting stance. He's square to the pitcher, but tilts his head and leans over about 25 degrees. He hasn't changed it, and whether that's the Rockies not doing anything about it or him just being stubborn remains to be seen. He's a SS with power potential, so I can't write him off. But I'd hesitate to expect anything more than a backup role. (Chris Rodriguez)
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)Rank these prospects in a dynasty: Rosell Herrera, Nick Williams, Blake Swihart, Daniel Norris, Trevor Story, Alen Hanson, Philip Ervin, Kennys Vargas, Steven Mats.
(Tim from NJ)
Nick Williams, Trevor Story, Daniel Norris and Blake Swihart are the big four of that group. I think everyone kinda rounds out the backend. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat. What are your thoughts on Trevor Story? His average is back up, but still striking out a lot.
(Gavin from The Hills)
You hit it right on the head, Gavin. The strike outs are going to be an issue, so he'll have to rack up the home run production in order to make it work. Strike outs are acceptable these days if they come with enough production. (Jeff Moore)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story reestablishing himself as a top 100 prospect? He's hitting over .330 with a lot of extra base hits and 20 stolen bases. Will he be a top 5 shortstop prospect by the end of the year?
(Chris from Baltimore)
Not for me. I need to see it sustained for a longer period of time, and in particular, I need to see it happen after he reaches Double-A. Reports on his swing and approach from last year worries me. I want to see it work for a longer period of time and against more advanced pitching. (J.P. Breen)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story jumping back up on prospect lists with his great start or is his K rate still to high?
(scott from az)
Another guy who looked better in camp. Story had a really poor 2013 season, and some players fold when they fail and some take steps forward. Story is a gamer, and he is showing the ability to make adjustments. I'm not quite as high on his long-term outlook as I previously was, as I was probably too high on him coming into last season. But he can play shortstop, has some skills at the plate, and has a high baseball IQ, so its possible that he will turn himself into a legit player one day. (Jason Parks)
2014-04-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story relavent again with his hot start?
(scott from az)
You'd have to ask Parks for the 411 on Story. I did like him entering the draft. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Are you down on Trevor Story like Jason Parks is?
(Luke from Los Angeles)
I share many of Jason's opinions on Story. He struggled in 2013 and I had similar reports from scouts. There's still some upside there, but he has some work to do. (Mark Anderson)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Trevor Story - he seemed to right himself somewhat in the second half at Modesto after a brutal start. Is his stock down or unchanged from last year?
(xavier from texas)
His stock is way down. (Jason Parks)
2013-06-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Could you give any insight on this seasons struggles of Trevor Story?
(UTRMHefferan from Rochester NY)
I can't. I haven't seen him. Sorry. I do know that he's angering me because he was supposed to dominate so I could trade him for some studs in my NL only where I'm trying to stave off the bumrush of teams trying to kick me out of first. (Paul Sporer)
2013-05-29 18:30:00 (link to chat)Who are the top 5 Shortstops for future fantasy value?
(Tim Tebow from Canada)
Hi Tim. I hope you land on your feet.

This is a pretty broad question. I'm not sure if you're talking future value among all shortstops or value among shortstops that haven't reached the Majors yet. As far as prospects go, I would go with Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, Javier Baez, Addison Russell, and Trevor Story. Keep in mind that this isn't rating best prospects but best fantasy value. Story gets a bump for potentially playing half of his games in Colorado, for example; he's not a Top 5 SS prospect based on real life value. (Mike Gianella)
2013-04-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Odds Trevor Story ends up in 2B?
(Abnergreen from Puerto Rico )
Unless he borrows the shrink ray from Honey I Shrunk the Kids, it's pretty close to zero. If he doesn't stick at SS, he's likely a 3B because he has the arm for it. (Bret Sayre)
2013-04-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Better prospect Trevor Story or Alen Hanson?
(Garcia from The Hills)
Read this as "Better prospect story, Trevor Story or Alen Hanson." Was trying to figure out how to assess the value of each player's story. Finally got it.

Trevor Story is not as good at baseball as Alen Hanson, in my reading-other-people's-opinions opinion. (Sam Miller)
2012-12-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)What's the story on Trevor Story? He had a similar first full year to Tulo's first full year, plus about 50 more AB's. Can you please compare the 2 players? Thanks for the chat, Daniel!
(Jake from Colorado)
Story ranked atop our top 10 prospects list for the Rockies, and I'll defer to the minor-league staff's wisdom on his potential. From what I've read, I think that Story can be a quality everyday shortstop, but he lacks Tulo's power and impact defensive skills, so that's not really a fair comparison. If Story crosses paths with Tulo, he'll almost certainly be the one moving to second/third base. One thing to watch from Story as he moves up to High-A is how he tackles his issues with left-handed pitchers and offspeed stuff two weaknesses that Jason Parks and co. mentioned in his writeup in the top 10 list. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Higher ceiling, Trevor Story or David Dahl?
(sykklone from IA)
Dahl for me (Jason Parks)
2012-10-16 14:00:00 (link to chat)After Profar, rank in hotness the next level of upcoming minor league short stops from a list of Francisco Lindor, Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Hak-Ju Lee, Trevor Story, and Carlos Correa.
(Paul from DC)
Baez, Lindor, Russell, Story, Correa, Lee, but I'm assuming you're asking me to rank them purely be physical attractiveness. (Ben Lindbergh)
2012-08-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Trevor Story's #s are on par with Xander Bogaerts and Story seems more likely to stay up the middle. What is the knock on Story? Splits? Lack of power projection?
(rrvwmr from Chicago)
1. I'm not as convinced Story stays up the middle as you are, as he could be more of a third baseman. 2. Playing in Asheville helps your numbers considerably. 3. He is brutally bad right now against LHP. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-06-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Trevor Story going to be able to continue as a SS in the Colorado system with Troy Tulowitzki blocking his progress? Or is this another potential situation like Profar having no place to play but being good enough to facilitate a trade?
(jhardman from Irvingite)
Tulo is only blocking Story at the major league level, and Story is playing in the Low-A Sally League at the present. It's not an issue until its an issue. If you can develop a player as a shortstop, you develop a player as a shortstop. Deal with the problem when it actually becomes one. (Jason Parks)
