DateQuestionAnswer
2016-09-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Orlando Arcia's bat less than we expected and what can we expect from him offensively in the future? Obviously the glove is top notch.
(ColeWhittier from Pasadena, CA)
He hasn't been great, for sure (outside of defense, which of course will cure a lot of warts). But he's also extremely young. You're talking about a 22 year old getting his first taste of the majors -- there's maybe even more physical development there, let alone mental development as he gets a feel for the game. So I think while he might not be the 275/340/425 hitter he was in the minors, I don't think he's going to hit below a 300 OBP forever either. I'd expect he becomes a tier better than Andrelton Simmons in the offense category, given time. (Trevor Strunk)
2016-06-15 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Grant, I'm thinking about going down to Charlotte for the AAA All-Star game. What exciting players should be down there to keep an eye on?
(Trevin from NW Ohio)
Voting is happening right now, so luckily if you go onto any PCL or Il teams website you can help decide who you will see!
Players that should be there? Willson Contreras will I assume. Orlando Arcia, Gallo, Hoffman from the PCL.
IL guys Josh Bell, Steven Moya, Glasnow. (Grant Jones)
2016-04-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see any of the young Brewers waiting for their opportunity in AAA like Michael Reed, Orlando Arcia and Zach Davies making an impact soon?
(Scott from LA)
Reed and Davies might get their shots before Arcia, but Arcia is a much better bet to stick. Reed might get a shot before Brett Phillips, but he's unlikely to perform well enough to prevent Phillips from supplanting him. Nobody in the Brewers' rotation is going to block Davies if he performs well, but he's unlikely to have sustained success in MLB with his stuff. Arcia is coming up at some point this summer, and when he does, he's probably there for good. Even if Villar plays like an All Star, which would be an upset, the Brewers will promote a meeting-expectations Arcia and play him at SS, moving Villar to 2B or 3B and shunting Scooter Gennett or Aaron Hill to the bench or the waiver wire. There's no denying Arcia, barring injury. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-01-29 11:00:00 (link to chat)In general, (there's obvious exceptions below the line), but where in the list would you draw the line at players who you feel comfortable can be perennial all-stars? My uneducated guess would be around 11 (Tyler Glasnow). If it clicks, he could be borderline 1/2. Orlando Arcia at #12 seems to be more very good than great (not meant to be a knock).
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
I think that's about right. I'd draw a line either around 11/12 or around 9/10. But that gets into picking nits. (Top 101 Chat with Craig Goldstein)
2016-01-27 19:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Matt,Please put in order...Orlando Arcia..A J Reed....Jose Deleon...Blake Snell.. Thanks,Harry
(Harry from New York)
They're are really close together, so you can't really go wrong. I'd go Arcia, Reed, Snell, De Leon (Matt Collins)
2016-01-27 19:00:00 (link to chat)How much power potential does Orlando Arcia have? 8-10 HR's maybe? Or more like 12-15?
(Alan from Australia)
Realistically he's probably in the 8-10 range. The ceiling might be 10-15 since he's in Milwaukee. (Matt Collins)
2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Really vacuuming up the questions today, George! Clay Davenport's projected prime for Orlando Arcia has him basically .300/.355/.500 with the expected Gold Glove quality defense at shortstop, and 20-30 steals. Does this feel generally accurate to you? 'Cause if he plays 150 games that's about a 7-8 win player by my estimates. Thanks!
(Van Lingle Mungo Jerry from NY, NY)
The defense is real. I don't think he can reach that type of offensive ceiling right away. I've never heard anything negative on Arcia from any of my prospect or Brewers sources. He's the real deal. (George Bissell)
2016-01-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Will JP Crawford or Orlando Arcia be in the bigs this year for more than a cup o' coffee?
(Kingpin from Grinnell, IA)
I think if one of them is going to be, it's Arcia. Neither one is guaranteed, but I think Arcia is slightly more ready to contribute offensively at the big league level. Crawford the better prospect/last name, but Arcia slightly more ready. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-12-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)In a dynasty league, would Chris Archer, Giolito and Orlando Arcia be too much to give up for Kris Bryant?
(Jdwatson09 from CA)
Bret Sayre could answer this just dizzyingly better than I can. I would probably take the Bryant side of that, but narrowly. (Matthew Trueblood)
2015-09-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are the chances for J.P Crawford and/or Orlando Arcia to be in the big leagues prior to the All-Star break 2016?
(Kingpin from Grinnell, IA)
I'd say good. Both guys are really, really damn good and AA is already a phone call from the majors. if those teams are out of it they could delay the time frame, but on talent and MLB readiness they both could help right now. (Al Skorupa)
2015-08-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see Orlando Arcia's ceiling being? Also, if you have seen him, can Brett Phillips hit lefty pitchers?
(Spencer from Wisconsin)
I'd say Arcia's ceiling is a guy who gives you average to above-average offensive production from a shortstop, while playing above-average to plus defense. That's pretty good. And I have seen Phillips, and I do think he can hit left-handed pitching. That was a great deal for Milwaukee. A good deal for Houston, too. Win-win trades are fun. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)Brendan, if you were a GM and you were in position to sign any of Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman, Trea Turner, Orlando Arcia or Wilmer Difo, who would you take and why?
(jeffbroyde from Socal)
With respect to the rest, I'm debating Swanson and Arcia. I like Arcia's glove, and think he'll start at short for several years, but I think I'd cave and go with Swanson's upside. Hard to pass up a SS with plus speed and 15-20 homer power potential. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2015-06-02 18:00:00 (link to chat)Who would you rather have on your dynasty team, Arismendy Alcantara or Orlando Arcia? What about Alen Hanson?
(Alex from Baton Rouge)
Fantasy only? Alcantara then Hanson then Arcia. (Mauricio Rubio)
2015-05-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Orlando Arcia a top 5 SS prospect? Does he have 15 HR upside? Top 30 prospect on mid-season lists?
(Chad from Chicago)
I would slow the hype on Arcia, but I do think he is a talented prospect capable of playing plus defense and implementing an average hit tool. I do not think there is 15 HR upside, the raw power is below-average and the swing is not conducive for power (linear/doesn't always barrel the ball hard). Arcia isn't that level of prospect for me, but he's definitely a solid player, especially due to the positional value. (Tucker Blair)
2015-05-05 15:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts about Orlando Arcia? He is 20 in Double A and mashing, which is impressive considering he missed his entire 17 year old season.
(Jim from Tennessee)
I like him, but he doesn't have any power. Think .270 with 20+ steals when he's in the majors. That's decent at shortstop, but he'd be another guy I wouldn't mind selling high in keeper/dynasty formats. (Nick Shlain)
2015-04-29 20:00:00 (link to chat)Will Orlando Arcia have any significant fantasy implications in the future or is he Alcides Escobar 2.0? Does he have any chance to develop maybe 12-15 HR power or are we looking at a 5-8 type of guy?
(Schmilkus Orangaflop from Yugoslavia)
I think the power could top out at 10-12, even with the park helping him in Milwaukee, but he has more fantasy potential than Escobar. That said, I don't think he'll contribute as much on the base paths as Escobar, specifically. He's more of a 20-25 steal guy in my book. (Bret Sayre)
2015-03-29 14:00:00 (link to chat)Sounds like the glove is great, but what kind of hitter do you see in Orlando Arcia?
(Steve from Milwaukee )
Ask Al Skorupa. I didn't get to brewers camp but Al did. (Ryan Parker)
2014-11-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)How many of your NL Central Top 25 do you expect to make it on the top 100 list when BP publishes it? Average would be around 16 or 17 assuming talent is evenly distributed, right?
(Mike from Texas)
I did say I'd throw a top 25 NL Central Prospects list out there during this chat. With the understanding this is a work in progress (Mellen and I are starting to dig in on the framework for the Top 101), this is my own personal ranking of the prospects covered in our NL Central rankings:

1. SS Addison Russell
2. 3B Kris Bryant
3. RHP Robert Stephenson
4. OF Jorge Soler
5. OF Albert Almora
6. OF Stephen Piscotty
7. LHP Marco Gonzales
8. RHP Tyler Glasnow
9. RHP Jameson Taillon
10. OF Jesse Winker
11. OF/1B Josh Bell
12. RHP Alex Reyes
13. C Kyle Schwarber
14. RHP Michael Lorenzen
15. SS Orlando Arcia
16. OF Tyrone Taylor
17. OF Billy McKinney
18. RHP Pierce Johnson
19. SS Gleyber Torres
20. RHP Jack Flaherty
21. OF Yorman Rodriguez
22. C Reese McGuire
23. RHP Nick Howard
24. RHP Devin Williams
25. LHP Rob Kaminsky

I think all of those guys will be in the discussion for the 101, and expect there to be some shuffling in order of course. Definitely more than the average of 16 or 17. (NL Central Top 10s With Nick Faleris)
2014-12-11 18:00:00 (link to chat)Does Orlando Arcia profile as a better hitter Then Alcides Escobar, or is that a pretty good comp?
(Isaac from Akron...Still)
I think Arcia has a chance to hit at a higher level than Escobar. I like the bat speed a little more and I believe that should result in a few more hard line drives that fall for hits and/or find the gaps. Turning out like Escobar would be a fantastic consolation prize for the Brewers.... (Mark Anderson)
2014-11-04 18:00:00 (link to chat)Orlando Arcia or Nick Gordon?
(Scott from AZ)
I really like Arcia, but I think I have to go with Gordon's overall upside. (Mark Anderson)
2014-10-23 14:00:00 (link to chat)Better ss prospect, Daniel Robertson or Orlando Arcia?
(Scott from AZ)
Ditto (Doug Thorburn)
2014-10-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Could Orlando Arcia creep into the Raul Mondesi type prospect this season?
(Gman from Wisconsin)
I don't think Arcia's tools are quite as loud as Mondesi's. I think he's a tier or two below Adalberto #Adalberto (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-09-15 19:30:00 (link to chat)What SS should I start buying in spades in my deep dynasty league?
(Max from Reno)
If someone is down on Xander, I'd buy like crazy. If you're looking for a pre-hype prospect, check out Orlando Arcia. (Ben Carsley)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)You have not been especially positive in your write ups of Orlando Arcia in your Minor League updates. Considering his age and the FSL isn't he having a pretty impressive season or do you see no projectability in his swing and overall offensive game?
(Tim from Madtown)
I wouldn't say it's impressive. It's acceptable. He's just not an impact hitter. He may hit .270-.280 in the majors like he is this year int he FSL, but it will be relatively empty. He doesn't drive the ball at all, and that's in his approach more so than his ability. I actually think he has strong wrists and could have more gap power, but he doesn't approach his at-bats in that way. That said, he's still a nice prospect because of the defensive profile. (Jeff Moore)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the top pitching Prospect behind Jimmy Nelson and the top Hitting prospect
(Brewmann04 from new york)
I'm assuming this references the Brewers' minor-league system. The Brewers' top pitching prospect behind Nelson is Devin Williams, who could legitimately flirt with the Top 101 Prospects next winter. As far as position prospects are concerned, it's perhaps more difficult to pin that down. Tyrone Taylor and Orlando Arcia are guys who could be starters at the major-league level if the bats progress enough, but Monte Harrison might have something to say about that before the year is done. It's also been nice to see Clint Coulter rebound a bit. (J.P. Breen)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)Oswaldo Arcia or Orlando Arcia? GO!
(BeerTheDeer from Milwaukee)
Oswaldo. I like that Orlando can play a legitimate shortstop, but the bat is still a question mark. I think Oswaldo Arcia can hit major-league pitching and be a 20+ homer guy. The defense is a question mark, but I'll take the stick. (J.P. Breen)
2013-07-12 19:30:00 (link to chat)How'd the Brewers do considering no first rounder? Is the system improving?
(Titus from Wisconsin)
They got a first round caliber player in Devin Williams, who was one of my favorite arms in the draft class. There's also some upside in picks like Uhen and Hllis. The system on the whole has seen its share of successes and set backs -- right now two of my favorite prospects are both Low-A Brewers kids -- Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor. Taylor in particular should get a really nice bump in prospect land as everyone's new lists start to roll out. (Nick Faleris on Draft Signing Day)
