DateQuestionAnswer
2014-12-18 15:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Cory Spangenberg this year and longterm? Ceiling - probability?
(ProBeauNO from New Orleans)
Ceiling of a starter on a bad team, likelihood of of a superutility type. Can play 2B/3B/OF and make decent contact. Nice little bench guy to have until he gets expensive. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-11-04 18:00:00 (link to chat)How does Trea Turner compare to Cory Spangenberg? He's better in the field and faster, right? Does he project better at the plate as well?
(padremurph from Los Angeles)
Speaking as a a guy that's not completely on the Trea Turner bandwagon, he's a considerably better prospect than Spangenberg overall. He is faster and has a legitimate defensive profile on the left side of the infield. I think he's going to make plenty of contact and there are some hints that he could find enough punch in the game to really keep pitchers honest. I don't see an impact profile, but I do think he can be a quality everyday player at the highest level; something I don't really see with Spangenberg. (Mark Anderson)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Cory Spangenberg's rough year have anything to do with his injury, or is he just struggling to adjust to more advanced pitching?
(Bryant from San Diego)
I can't speak to how much the injury affected his season, but that kind of stuff is usually a factor. Advanced pitching is probably the biggest factor, though. The talent steps up at every level. Stay ahead of the wave or get smothered. (Jason Parks)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Great news on growing BP's prospect coverage. Cory Spangenberg. How big of a hit has his outlook taken based on what I would assume is a failure to show the hitters accumen that many thought he possessed?
(SenatorsGuy from DC)
Thanks. We are really excited about it. As for Cory, yes, he didn't explode the way I thought he would. I'm not giving up, though. I still like his hit tool, and I think he has a plan at the plate. He just needs to execute and learn to use all fields. I think he figures it out and steps forward next season. (Jason Parks)
2012-07-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's going on with Cory Spangenberg?
(Bryant from San Diego)
Spangenberg is doing almost exactly what he did at Fort Wayne last season, in a league more conducive to offense. The numbers (.288/.330/.384) are a bit disappointing, but he is a 21-year-old second baseman in High-A, so I'm not concerned yet. I'd like to see him draw a few more walks, but I think he'll be fine. (Geoff Young)
2012-02-23 11:00:00 (link to chat)rebuffed by Karsten Whitson. Is having Joe Ross heal that wound?
(Hugo from walkonair@mindspring.com)
I'm not sure that anything can heal the wound inflicted by the Whitson situation, but between Ross, Cory Spangenberg, and Austin Hedges, the Padres managed to make lemonade. At least one of those guys should turn into something. Hedges in particular intrigues me. (Geoff Young)
