2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Which group sucks less? Anthony Alford, Rusney Castillo, Manuel Margot, Brett Phillips, Nick Williams,Spencer Adams, Mark Appel, Dylan Cease, Josh Hader, James Kapeielian, Triston McKenzie,Vince Velasquez or Blake Swihart, Jon Singleton, Dansby Swanson, Alex Jackson, Clayton Blackburn,Tyrell Jenkins, Rob Kaminsky, Zach Lee, Keuy Mella, Justin Nicolino, Aaron Nola, Tyler Jay. God these teams are awful.
(Clark from The 19th Hole)
The first group, but you're right, but they're both bad. (Mike Gianella)
2014-06-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you make of Justin Nicolino's year in AA? The results are good, but <4 K/9, even with <1 BB/9, strikes me as worrisome for whether he's a big-league starter....
(edwardarthur from Illinois)
He's an interesting case, but ultimately, I believe in Miami's ability to develop pitching. He's going to be able to get righties out, especially with his excellent CH, and the command profile is really good. I understand it's difficult to work off a fastball that is below major league average, but if he can locate it, and use his CH frequently, there's no reason he can't be a back end starter a the major league level. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Maikel Franco? I've heard mixed reviews on his hitting tool. I've been encouraged by his low K rate, which was why I picked him up in a dynasty league draft. Bonus question: what do you think the ETA is for Justin Nicolino?
(Luis from Brooklyn)
I love Franco; loved him since the day I saw him in Instructs as a 16/17 year old. He swings the bat way too much, but he's got that knack for getting the barrel to the ball, and driving it to all fields. I think he's an occasional All-Star.

On Nicolino, I think he probably gets a taste late this year or next year at the latest, but I don't really like the profile that much. (Mark Anderson)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which prospects are at the top end of the scale when it comes to locating their pitches?
(Gary from Irvine, CA)
The guys that came up the most during our off-season Top Tools (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22959) discussion were Kyle Hendriks, Dylan Bundy, Ty Blach, Justin Nicolino, Rafael Montero, Marucs Stroman, and Noah Syndergaard. (Mark Anderson)
2014-03-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think about Justin Nicolino. Personally, I like him, but not sold on him yet.
(David from Indiana)
I'm not sold on him either to be an impact player. There's things to like, but the overall package doesn't overwhelm me. (Ronit Shah)
2014-03-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think about Justin Nicolino?
(David from Indiana)
Saw him in the FSL last year. I always like a good FB/CH congo but Nicolino doesn't have much of a ceiling. He needs to command his fastball better within the strike zone. Throws a ton of strikes but not good ones, and he got away with it in the big parks of the FSL. I thought he might get hit around a little in AA and he did. Nothing he can't fix and he'll be a ML starter, but more towards the back end. (Jeff Moore)
2014-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Has Heaney raised his ceiling after such a great year? What is it now if so?
(Matt from OBX)
Heaney profiles as a solid number two starter and should slot in right between Jose Fernandez and Justin Nicolino in the Marlins 2015 rotation. (Jeff Moore)
2012-07-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)would Toronto giving up one of the Lansing 3, one of Gose/Marsnick and another prospect get a sniff of Johnson from the Marlins?
(Mikeleelop from toronto)
The latest from Miami is that they're asking for a lot for JJ, but some combination of Justin Nicolino, Aaron Sanchez, Noah Syndergaard, and another OF prospect or two would definitely get their interest. The question would be whether Toronto would want to pay such a steep price for Johnson, who's proven to be brittle and inconsistent of late. The package Miami's asking for is being compared to the Mark Teixiera deal, but I think Tex was a much more valuable commodity. If they'd tried to make this trade two seasons ago, they'd get that high price. I'm just not sure if it's worth Toronto to shed so much talent for JJ when they've got a ton of pitching talent just a year or two from the bigs. (Michael Street)
