2016-06-20 16:00:00 (link to chat)Steve, thanks for the chat. Where do you see Jurickson Profar fitting in for the Rangers long term?? Or do you think he will be moved for help at other positions??
(DJ from Dallas)
I would say he is athletic enough for any position (outside of C) on the diamond. It all depends on where the bat takes him and how well his arm has bounced back.

He doesn't really have that much trade value to other teams though. It's like an episode of Pawn Stars where someone brings in some supposed valuable item but you haven't brought in your expert to verify if its legit or not. I mean, if it is what he claims to be (a former top prospect in the game) then you potentially have a goldmine. If its a fake...then you have scraps. (Steve Givarz)
2016-06-07 12:00:00 (link to chat)Jeffrey, Thanks for the chat! It's been a revelation watching Jurickson Profar. What kind of production do you expect from him (assuming he stays with Rangers)? If he stays, how do the Rangers find ABs for him? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
(DJ from Dallas)
So he probably isn't a .370 hitter, and he probably needs to walk a bit more (which will happen once he stops smashing everything), but wouldn't you feel better with him as your everyday DH over Fielder, even ignoring what Profar can give you in the field as well? (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-06-21 20:00:00 (link to chat)Please tell me that the Rangers don't trade away Jurickson Profar this summer. Or Joey Gallo.
(Tommy from Texas)
Can't tell you that. If I had to pick one as more likely to be dealt, I would pick Gallo. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-06-21 20:00:00 (link to chat)So where are we at with Jurickson Profar? Is he a top 50 dynasty player going forward? I feel like the two most likely outcomes here are: super-utility for Texas (the Zobrist model) or starting SS for somebody else. Thoughts?
(Jake from Kalamazoo)
I honestly have no idea. He doesn't have a clear spot to play in TEX and there aren't enough off-days to go around and get him in the lineup every day. However, it also seems like TEX loves him and doesn't want to let him go for fear of seeing him kick butt elsewhere. I know that an answer with more certainty would be more reassuring, but I think anyone who says they know what's going to happen with Profar and the Rangers is full of it unless they're a member of the Rangers' front office staff. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-05-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who are a couple good 12-team dynasty buy-lows to target if I am a middling but young team building for 2017-2019? How about Javier Baez?
(Angry Carl from Wisconsin)
He'd fit the bill. Jurickson Profar could as well. Players of this ilk ("failed" prospects who still are young and have room for growth) are generally the types of buy low players you are looking for. (Mike Gianella)
2016-05-18 19:00:00 (link to chat)Which teams will likely target Jurickson Profar via trade?
(Cory from Ohio)
It's going to come down to which team has the prospects and the need to pull it off. The flip side of the coin would be, if you're the Rangers there's zero reason to trade him. I wouldn't trade him if I were the Rangers. (George Bissell)
2016-04-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Mike, would you move Profar for Joc? 12 team dynasty league, OBP and SLG as categories. Thanks!
(Brien Taylor from Mikes House)
If you're playing for this year you could do that, but in that format I prefer Jurickson Profar slightly. (Mike Gianella)
2016-04-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)% chance Joey Gallo gets traded this year _____
(Tony from Rochester)
20-25%. I suspect Jurickson Profar is going to be everyone's favorite target. Doesn't mean that Gallo doesn't get moved though. (Mike Gianella)
2016-04-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)Please tell me that Jurickson Profar will start living up to his pre-injury expectations soon!
(Hannah from Maine)
I would love nothing more than to tell you that. I'm rooting pretty hard for him. But the time he missed due to injury is almost unprecedented. I have no idea how he'll actually turn out. I selected Carson Fulmer over him in the minor league draft portion of my AL-only league's auction and my BP colleague Mike Gianella took Profar 5 picks later. After the draft, that was the move that I told my opponents I might regret the most. (Scooter Hotz)
2016-02-25 12:00:00 (link to chat)Jeffrey, Thanks for the chat!! Saw the mention of Jurickson Profar earlier. Do you expect him to be working at positions other than middle infield in spring training?? Also, is there really a chance that he starts the year in the majors given all,the time he's missed?? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
(DJ from Dallas)
I think you'd like to get him a month or two of Triple-A time just to get his legs back under him. I am sure he will work a bit of everywhere in the Spring, because that is when you do it. If he is the best option to break camp with, well the Rangers are trying to win now, so you might as well take a shot. The talent is still there. You'd prefer it not be at a position he's never played before though. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-03-14 14:30:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat, Brendan!! What's the chance that Martin Perez has a breakout year this year?? Also, will Jurickson Profar get a chance to play somewhere other than middle infield?? Thanks for sharing your opinion.
(DJ from Dallas)
My pleasure. Staying low on Perez until he shows he can command the ball well for an extended stretch. For Profar, the natural spot was LF but Ian Desmond pretty well takes care of that. If he's healthy, he'll hit his way into an opportunity somewhere; just maybe not in Texas. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2016-03-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Wilson, Thanks for the chat!! I read about Jurickson Profar playing at shortstop or second for the Rangers in spring training. Given the relative youth of their MLB middle infielders it would seem they might want to try him in the outfield. Are they simply trying to maximize his trade value?? Setting up a trade of Elvis Andrus, replacing him with Profar?? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
(DJ from Dallas)
Well, he's a natural SS (and an excellent one) by trade, and it's still a road ahead to get him back on the six-spot given the time missed. He needs every rep he can get, I wouldn't read any more machinations into it than that. And I'd assume that if/when he shows he can handle it again that'd set Andrus up for a spot on the trade block, but you know what they say about assumptions. (Wilson Karaman)
2016-01-27 19:00:00 (link to chat)What do you forsee from Jurickson Profar this season? and beyond? If he is healthy can he grab a job in Arlington and be productive?
(BigTex from Texas)
Like most others, I love Profar if he's healthy. I'm expecting big things in 2017 and beyond. This year is a little tougher to project with Odor and Andrus still in front of him. I think he'll earn some time soon enough, but I'm not sure he'll get enough to be a true difference maker in 2016. (Matt Collins)
2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)Who are this years Correa, Seager, and Buxton?
(Jared from Oklahoma)
I'll give you a couple prospects/young guys that step into the spotlight for me. A few established younger guys I think will bounce-back are Javier Baez, Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo...MILB I'll go Nomar Mazara, J.P. Crawford and A.J. Reed as my big-three for hitters. (George Bissell)
2016-01-21 19:00:00 (link to chat)It's been so long since he was healthy, but what did Jurickson Profar project to be when he was a top prospect a few years back? .290/.350/.440 more/less?
(holmesp2001 from St Louis)
I don't want to think about it. Crazy thing is, he's still only going to be 23 this year. He looked incredible in the AFL. The big-time rebound is coming. He will be up before long in 2016. (George Bissell)
2016-01-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)What do you expect from Profar & J. Reyes this yr?
(LittleRon from WV)
I think Jurickson Profar eventually finds his way to the majors and has 400 productive at bats as a super utility guy. Jose Reyes is tougher to project thanks to his potential suspension, but he'll probably play 2/3rd of the games where he is available and see a power boost in Colorado. (Mike Gianella)
2015-10-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jurickson Profar. Please remind us all how good this guy is and why we should be paying attention to his 1.382 OPS in the Arizona Fall League. Does he fit into the Rangers plans or is he prime trade bait?
(holmesp2001 from St. Louis)
A couple Profar questions, remember him? Well, you really shouldn't pay attention to AFL boxcores, but for Profar the key is he's in the box score. If he comes back all the way from the shoulder issue the talent hasn't markedly changed. I don't want to just handwave two full missed seasons, that is an additional risk.

As far as his role with the Rangers, I think they'd love to get out from under the Andrus deal, but that is unlikely unless they are willing to basically eat it or view it as a sunk cost and have a very expensive utility infielder. You also don't know yet if Profar's arm is up for shortstop, and Rougie Odor has staked his claim on second base. Fortunately, you have some time to suss this all out, as I think Profar will need a half season or so in Triple-A to get his legs back under him. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2015-09-21 20:30:00 (link to chat)How do you value injured guys like Jurickson Profar and Jameson Taillon in dynasty leagues? Does their talent justify holding onto them despite their long history of injuries?
(Matt from NYC)
It's different for hitters than it is for pitchers. I'm more willing to gamble on hitters while they are injured, as I really want to see mound dwellers return and get a sense for their current profile before investing. I'd still be holding on to both of them in leagues, but if I had to choose between the two, it's Profar for me. (Bret Sayre)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)Does Dansby Swanson or Jurickson Profar have a better career?
(Lmaples1 from Nashville)
A guy who hasn't played as a professional versus someone who has been hurt the last two years. I'm clearly guessing, but I have to go with Swanson just based on the injury profile for Profar. But who really knows? (Mike Gianella)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)Keeper league team decimated by injuries. I traded an expensive Lucroy for a cheaper package of Jurickson Profar, Leonys Martin and Andrelton Simmons. Lunacy or luminosity? Any hope for any of those guys in 2016? Does this count as three questions towards Brett's charity drive?
(Guancous from Silver Spring, MD)
I like that a lot if you weren't keeping Lucroy anyway. Profar is the biggest ceiling guy, but we won't know more until we see him on the field. I still like Martin a lot, and if the BABIP bounces back a little bit he should be OK. Simmons is probably the one who has way more real life value than fantasy; I'm not convinced that power comes back and if it doesn't he's fringy unless you're talking a 20-team dynasty. (Mike Gianella)
2015-01-28 19:00:00 (link to chat)Would you trade Robert Stephenson for Jurickson Profar in dynasty?
(Grizzly from Chicago)
Yes, I would. I like Stephenson but I'm firmly in the tank for Profar this year. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-11-18 13:00:00 (link to chat) Thanks for the great chats!! There's a lot of noise about the Rangers trading Elvis Andrus. Are Jurickson Profar and Rougned Odor good enough to handle short and second for the Rangers, or are these rumors just a bunch of hot air??
(DJ from Dallas)
Hey, DJthanks for participating.
I think that both Profar and Odor profile as everyday big leaguers, with a chance to be first-division players, and Odor may even have passed Profar from the standpoint of likelihood of reaching that ceiling. My concern, though, is that both of them might end up at 2B, with Profar's chances of playing SS dented by the shoulder problems that might affect his arm. That being said, the Rangers have more infielders in the pipeline, including Sardinas and Michael de Leon, so if someone were willing to take Andrus' contract, I think they'd gladly ship him off and find a way to patch the hole. (Daniel Rathman)
2014-12-11 18:00:00 (link to chat)Mark, Thanks for the chat!! You guys are the best in the business!! How do you expect the Elvis Andrus, Jurickson Profar, Rougned Odor situation to be resolved for 2015??
(DJ from Dallas )
Thanks for the kind words! It's really amazing how these things always tend to work themselves out, and I think this one will as well, as the Rangers will have opportunities to flip some players throughout the remainder of the off-season. If they have confidence that Profar is healthy and ready to play, then he has the highest ceiling of the trio and should play every day in some fashion or another. His partner in crime up the middle will depend on what the Ranges need to move to improve the rest of their roster, but if I'm in their shoes, I would be inclined to see what I could get back for Andrus and turn the reigns over to the kids. (Mark Anderson)
2014-09-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Craig, I don't understand the talk about Rougned Odor possibly being behind Jurickson Profar for the 2015 Rangers 2B job. Looks like he's a real MLB hitter at age 20. What am I missing?? Thanks so much for your thoughts!!
(Bill from Phoenix)
I think that's forgetting how good a healthy Jurickson Profar is. I originally expected on of Profar, Andrus and Odor to be out the door in the offseason but if Profar can't get healthy there's no reason to stretch themselves thin at the position. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-09-15 19:30:00 (link to chat)What do you think of the new, jacked version of Jurickson Profar?
(Jay from PHX)
Unless he's worked on hardening his "stay on the field" muscle, it doesn't do much for me. He'll be underrated in redraft leagues headed into 2015 for sure, though. (Ben Carsley)
2014-08-29 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the insights. Is Rougned Odor a lock for the 2B job next year with texas?
(Bill from Dallas)
I wouldn't say lock. Not unless they do something with Elvis Andrus, Jurickson Profar, or someone else that would allow all three to be on the roster at once. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-07-22 15:00:00 (link to chat)How will the Pirates find playing time for Josh Bell in what's already being considered the best outfield trio of the future?
(Ace from PA)
How will the Rangers find playing time for Roogie Odor and Jurickson Profar?

Things work out. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Not technically a top 50 question, but if you only get to choose one for the next six years, do you take Rougned Odor or Jurickson Profar?
(Or from Denton)
Odor. (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is a Rougned Odor the front runner at this point for the Rangers second base job in 2015??
(Billy from Arlington)
Odor has handled his jump to the big leagues much better than I anticipated this year. Whether he is the front runner or not depends largely on what happens with the rest of the infield, including the recovery of Jurickson Profar. If Profar is healthy and performing at expected levels, Odor can't match that and any apparent grip on that job would have to be tenuous at best. (Mark Anderson)
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)Does Jurickson Profar still rank as a future all-star SS/2B or are his recent injuries cause to jump ship?
(Domingo Ayala from Phoenix AZ)
He's not rec league, bro. I believe in him still. His stock is down in leagues though as fans panic

I think that about wraps it up. (Scott in AZ, I tried to answer as many as I could but I couldn't get to all of them) (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-05-07 17:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Mike, Do you see a position change and/or a trade in the future for Odor?
(Cal Guy from Cal)
Anything's possible, though I think the position change is more likely than a trade. Everyone assumed Jurickson Profar would get moved and he wasn't. The Rangers really hate parting with their prospects. (Mike Gianella)
2014-01-23 12:00:00 (link to chat)I know a lot of Profar's value is in his glove, but what do you expect from him offensively over the next few seasons?
(Tony from Work)
Do you know how old Jurickson Profar is? He's 20. He'll be 21 next season. Most 21 year old prospects are in Double-A. He's going to be starting his second season in MLB. I'm not sure what his slash line will be but the thing that makes Profar so exciting is that he can hit AND field. I wouldn't be shocked if he slugged .500 at some point, though (probably) not this year. (Matthew Kory)
2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like at 2b between Profar, Rendon, and Gyorko?
(Jim from Chinatown)
Hi Jim.

Of the three, I like Jedd Gyorko most for this year and Jurickson Profar most long-term. Profar is the guy that I'd take in a keeper without a doubt. (Mike Gianella)
2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like at 2b between Profar, Rendon, and Gyorko?

Hi Jim.

Of the three, I like Jedd Gyorko most for this year and Jurickson Profar most long-term. Profar is the guy that I'd take in a keeper without a doubt. (Mike Gianella)
2014-01-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you're Rougned Odor, do you have to be thinking 'I'm gonna have to kill either Profar or Andrus in a year or two in order to crack the Ranger's lineup?'
(Paul from DC)
Murder seems unnecessary. Id go with the eye drops in the wine glass that Sak used in Wedding Crashers. These things work themselves out though. A few months ago we didnt know where Jurickson Profar was going to play until the Rangers turned that problem into Prince Fielder. (Jeff Moore)
2013-12-10 18:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see from Profar for the upcoming year(s)?
(Todd from Dallas)
Hi Todd:

Jurickson Profar has the potential to be a superstar, although he could be one of those players who is more of a real life superstar and "just" a very, very good player in fantasy. I think long term that you're looking at a 15-20 HR, 25-30 SB player with good batting averages and an on the field presence that makes him a leader. He's going to be a stud. Whether he's a fantasy stud or not remains an open question. (Mike Gianella)
2013-12-10 18:00:00 (link to chat)Dynasty 10 keeper in both MLB level and MILB level. I can keep Wong for free as one of my 10 MILB but can also probably trade Wong straight up for Profar (no longer MILB eligible) but would have to use a MLB keeper spot on him. Would probably cost me Rios or Ryu. I have no 2nd baseman (not keeping Utley) going into the year. Is the keeper spot worth the trade for 2014? Who do you foresee having a quicker/bigger impact Wong or Profar?
(Rich from St. Louis)
Hi Rich.

With Ian Kinsler out of the way, Jurickson Profar should have a much bigger fantasy impact than Kolten Wong in 2014. I could be wrong about Wong ( the way I was off base about Matt Carpenter) but I see Wong as more of a steady performer and not as a player with significant upside like Profar. Your decision is kind of tough, though, because you would have to give up either Alex Rios or Ryu. In this case, I might simply keep Wong since you're not surrendering the MLB slot and can keep both Wong and Rios or Wong and Ryu. It's a close call for me. I think I'd make the deal but I can see why you wouldn't either. (Mike Gianella)
2013-11-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)With all the pitching St. Louis has, seems like they'd trade some of it for a shortstop if a deal presented itself. Which of their young arms would you be most willing, if you were John Mozeliak, to move in order to net Jurickson Profar or Elvis Andrus? Assume a position-player throw-in to make it "fair" if needed.
(Bill from New Mexico)
I think the biggest challenge is probably convincing the Rangers they aren't better off trading for Price and extending him. (Nick J. Faleris)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are the odds Jurickson Profar is on the Rangers come April 2014?
(Mike from Utica, NY)
Rangers need to make some moves. Profar is an ultra-attractive piece, so I wouldn't be totally shocked if they moved him this off-season. (Jason Parks)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Most likely Rangers 2nd baseman in 2015: Ian Kinsler, Jurickson Profar, Rougned Odor or Mark McLemore?
(Or from Denton)
I'd love for it to be Odor. That kid is full on #want. If the Rangers keep Profar, I can see a scenario (down the line) where Profar slides over to SS and Odor takes over at 2B. Kinsler is still a good player, but I don't see him at 2B in 2015. (Jason Parks)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance Tampa gets Jorge Alfaro and Jurickson Profar in a trade for David price?
(Al from Dallas)
I would ask for him in any deal with Texas (Jason Parks)
2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)What position is Jurickson Profar playing next season, and for what team is he playing it?
(Alone Again from Naturally)
I think he is playing 2B for the Rangers (Jason Parks)
2013-09-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)David Price gets traded by the Rays this offseason. Who did he get traded to and what was the return?
(jharrison3 from Illinois)
There will be a line of teams for David Price if the Rays deal him. He's under team control for two more seasons following this one though so the Rays won't deal him unless they get a haul. Jurickson Profar or Tavares or something like that plus more. I wouldn't be shocked if St. Louis makes a run at him. (Matthew Kory)
2013-09-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Chances any of Texas's J2 class this year play Stateside in 2014? Have you witnessed Diplan yourself? When is his arrival?
(Hightower from Texas)
I haven't seen any of them yet but imagine the high-priced ones are likely to be at instructs later this month, so I should be able to put an eye to them then. I'll be able to answer your question more accurately after my visit to instructs, but I think it's always somewhat likely that the high priced guys will start out in the AZL. Not always true sometimes it's DSL and in the rare cases of Martin Perez, Rougned Odor, and Jurickson Profar it was Spokane but it's generally AZL. (Jason Cole)
2013-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)One sports writer was ruminating over the possibility of a trade of Jurickson Profar for a power hitting outfielder like Jose Bautista. He's in the prime of his career and has a very team friendly contract. Is this even a viable trade possibility. Who loses that trade if it ever happened?
(Trent from El Paso)
I don't think the Rangers will trade Profar for an outfielder who turns 33 in October. Bautista is currently in his prime, but he's likely to be exiting it soon. If the Rangers unload Profar, it's going to be for a younger player with his best years ahead of him like a Giancarlo Stanton. (Jason Cole)
2013-05-29 18:30:00 (link to chat)Who are the top 5 Shortstops for future fantasy value?
(Tim Tebow from Canada)
Hi Tim. I hope you land on your feet.

This is a pretty broad question. I'm not sure if you're talking future value among all shortstops or value among shortstops that haven't reached the Majors yet. As far as prospects go, I would go with Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, Javier Baez, Addison Russell, and Trevor Story. Keep in mind that this isn't rating best prospects but best fantasy value. Story gets a bump for potentially playing half of his games in Colorado, for example; he's not a Top 5 SS prospect based on real life value. (Mike Gianella)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)On a scale of Jurickson Profar (1) to Josh Hamilton (10), how worried are you about Cody Buckel?
(Ross from HEB)
Any time somebody's control issues progress (regress?) to the point where we're calling it "the yips," that meter goes immediately to a 6 for me. I'd say 6 right now (I'm assuming the Hamilton 10 means "very worried"). The good news is that Buckel's stuff is still there. He's kind of made himself a fastball-curveball guy for the time being, but he hit 97 in a recent start and has sat between 89-94, depending on the outing. He's all out of whack mentally and mechanically, though, and that has led to 28 walks in 9.1 innings. He absolutely needs to be in extended spring training soon, in my opinion. (Jason Cole)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)What prospects stand out to you in having a feel for the game ?
(Derek from Cali)
Jurickson Profar was one who absolutely did as early as 16. You could tell the same about Francisco Lindor right out of high school. Lindor is probably the go-to answer on that question right now. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-01 12:45:00 (link to chat)With Andrus locked up at SS for the Rangers, Oscar Taveras for Jurickson Profar looks better than ever! Would a front office ever make this kind of deal, or is there just too much downside for the guys who pull the trigger?
(drive2fast19 from Baltimore)
It makes sense to satisfy immediate needs for this year, but do you make a challenge trade to fill a single need this season? For example, if you're Texas and you need an outfielder, do you need to trade Profar to get one? - Carleton (Baseball Prospectus Staff)
2013-04-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Should the Rangers make a serious offer for Ricky Romero for their 5th starter spot? What do you believe would be a fair offer that the Blue Jays might accept?
(Todd from Dallas)
No. Jurickson Profar. (Sam Miller)
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Cory ..... thanks for the chat. Which hot prospects do you think will be "held back" in the minors for Super-2 considerations this year? Taveras? Others?
(dianagram from VORGville)
Well, to be fair, Taveras doesn't have a clear-cut path to playing time, with Holliday and Beltran on the corners and Jay as the primary/platoon CF. But he will probably hit his way into a job this year. Wil Myers, Nolan Arenado, Jurickson Profar and Kolten Wong are just a few others who quickly come to mind. Like Taveras, Profar may indeed be ready right now, but there's no clear-cut everyday job for him right now so I can see the Rangers giving him a few more weeks in Triple-A while they figure it out. (Cory Schwartz)
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)Some impatient owners who drafted Wil Myers and Jurickson Profar have already dropped them to waivers -- who should I use my No. 2 Waiver claim on (if anyone), and who will have the best 2013 campaign?
(CubicleMan from Work?)
Go for Profar. Given equal PT this year, I'd expect Profar to have more value, given his positional value and SB edge. To be fair though, the path to playing time is a lot more obvious for Myers... it's not like Kelly Johnson is going to get in his way. (Cory Schwartz)
2013-03-20 11:00:00 (link to chat)yeah it beats a 9-5 by a mile. you have one of the cooler jobs on the planet in my opinion. last question from me: i have the first pick in the 2nd rd of the dynasty lge i just joined (took taveras #1 overll). would you suggest taking eaton at 2.1 (13) if he's there or should i take a higher upside guy like d'arnaud, zunino, taijaun, arenado, etc)?? thanks again.
(phin from Milwaukee)
Thanks! I'd go for Eaton over those guys since he gives me the best chance of winning now.

I hope that theme has come through loud and clear during this chat: play to win now, no matter what league you're in, whenever possible. Sometimes that's not possible in keeper and dynasty leagues, but the point of fantasy leagues is to compete and to win, so be careful about falling into the "future value" trap too quickly. Sure, I'd love to have Jurickson Profar in 2015, but Neil Walker will probably do a lot more for you in 2013. (Cory Schwartz)
2013-03-06 20:00:00 (link to chat)Keep six in a head to head points league with three OFs that are LF, CF, RF. Keeper round stays the same throughout a player's career: Beltre (1), Felix H (7th rd), J Upton (10), Harper (15), Price (16), Matt Moore (20), Austin Jackson (20), Jurickson Profar (20).
(Alan from Jacksonville)
Tough, I'm thinking pass on Beltre, Felix. (Paul Singman)
2013-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Now that it appears the Rangers won't be adding any position players before the season, do you foresee a full-time role for Leonys Martin in center? Or will he split time with Craig Gentry? I assume Jurickson Profar will start the year in AAA. What about Mike Olt?
(Jon from Texas)
I think Gentry still gets some burn. He did well vs. LHP and his D is awesome. I think both start in AAA barring injuries. (Paul Sporer)
2013-01-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)Out of the group of: Oscar Taveras, Jurickson Profar, Anthony Rizzo and Wil Myers. If given the same number of MLB ABs, who do you foresee having the most HRs, highest WARP/VORP and awards if each remain with their current organization in a 6 yr span?
(jlarsen from chicago)
With the caveat that I'm not an expert prospect guy, I'd say most homers Myers, highest AVG/OBP Taveras, and highest WARP Profar. Doesn't hurt that Profar has already arrived, though he's also -0.2 WARP in the hole from last season. (Ben Lindbergh)
2013-01-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Super-Deep Dynasty league with auction draft... $500 budgets for 25 roster spots. If there's one player you want to build you team around (maybe 3-4 players if you're feeling generous!), who are they/is he?
(Steve from Dallas)
If starting from scratch, I'd absolutely love to build around Mike Trout or Bryce Harper, so will everyone else though. I'd probably try to nab a pair of high upside prospects/youngsters who have yet to breakout in the bigs such as Jurickson Profar, Manny Machado, or Gerrit Cole. Buying in on a young player coming off a disappointing year such as Eric Hosmer would also make a lot of sense. (Josh Shepardson)
2013-01-16 13:30:00 (link to chat)who's more likely to have a fantasy impact this season, Oscar Taveras or Jurickson Profar?
(NoahB from San Diego)
Honestly, I'm not sure either will make a significant impact on the fantasy front in 2013. Taveras doesn't have a clear line to the big leagues right now, unless the Cardinals are willing to push him into center field. Profar is in a similar situation in that the Rangers would have to make room for him, moving either Andrus or Kinsler to another position. Both are great long term fantasy options, but they may only provide minimal value in 2013. (Mark Anderson)
2012-12-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)In 5 years which SS would you rather have on your team and your fantasty team Manny Machado or Jurickson Profar?
(Joel from Indianapolis)
Hey Joel!! I'd lean Profar ever-so-slightly if only because I'm not sold on the idea that Machado ever goes back to short so the position advantage would go to Profar. Both look like future *superstars*. (Paul Sporer)
2012-12-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)Cardinals still need a shortstop and have tons of young starting pitching. Rangers still need starting pitching and have an abundance of young shortstops. Shelby Miller, Matt Adams & Tyrell Jenkins for Jurickson Profar. Why wouldn't John Mozeliak and Jon Daniels be talking?
(Don from Missouri)
Hi Don, thanks for the question. My personal opinion is that it's impossible to "have an abundance of shortstops," but such a trade would be fun. I'm not even sure how I'd evaluate it other than to note that I'd hate to give up Profar. Then again, Mozeliak probably feels the same way about his guys. Hmmm... now I totally want this to happen. (Geoff Young)
2012-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Will Myers really the best prospect? Seems Profar or Bundy would be ranked higher.
(blue911 from DC)
I have seen Myers referred to vaguely this week as "the best prospect in baseball" but I don't believe I've ever seen any actual person actually rank him over Jurickson Profar and I don't expect to. (Sam Miller)
2012-11-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Who are the next wave of prospects that are going to be MLB all-stars and upper-echelon players? Trevor Bauer? Billy Hamilton? Wil Myers?
(Steve G. from Athens, OH)
As you know, there is no such thing as a can't miss prospect, but all three are in that conversation (though Hamilton will be a bit more valuable in fantasy than real life). You can add to the list Dylan Bundy, Jurickson Profar, Manny Machado, and Gerrit Cole, among others. Keep an eye on Jason Parks and his prospect teams' Top 10 lists and their eventual Top 100 list. (Derek Carty)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jurickson Profar for Oscar Taveres + Tyrell Jenkins -- why WOULDNT the Rangers (and/or the Cardinals) do this?
(kok from TEXAS!)
Depends on player evaluation. If you think Profar is a future superstar at a premium position, you don't trade him. If you think Taveras is a future .300/30 type, and Jenkins is a major leaguer with some impact potential, then it would change the debate. I can think of several reasons both pro and con for a prospect swap like this. When in doubt, lean towards the guy you know the best, the player you have made the investment in. (Jason Parks)
2012-10-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)With all the breakout seasons from several rookies this year, what rookies do you see potential big seasons from next year?
(Rockford from Treeline)
You mentioned Shelby Miller and Wily Peralta earlier. Among pitchers, I think we'll see a much better showing from Tyler Skaggs and Casey Kelly in the National League, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing Dylan Bundy in the AL. At the plate, I'll go with Jurickson Profar, Wil Myers, and perhaps toward the end of the year, a cameo from Billy Hamilton. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-10-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which prospects do you see being major fantasy players next year?
(Jordan from St. Elsewhere)
Billy Hamilton is supposed to see time in the outfield in the AFL this year, and his stolen base ability could make him an immediate impact player. I love Wil Myers and Oscar Taveras, as well as Jurickson Profar. I'm not sure how the Nationals will handle Anthony Rendon with Ryan Zimmerman entrenched at third, but he has some potential to get to the bigs and make an impact quickly. (Josh Shepardson)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who is the better player in two years, Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar?
(Or from Denton)
Elvis (Jason Parks)
2012-08-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)Someone is going to have to ask it: what do you think about The Rangers calling up Jurickson Profar?
(captnamerca from Dunedin, FL)
I think my favorite part about this season has been seeing Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and now Manny Machado. In the Lineup Card that is coming out today or tomorrow I advocated (semi-seriously) for the Red Sox to bring up Xander Bogaerts. So I'd love to see Profar up. Why not? Is he worse than Michael Young?

As to how he'll do, I have no idea, but everything I've read on him says he's a shockingly good talent. I can't wait. So yeah, I'm all for it. (Matthew Kory)
2012-06-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Which player does Jurickson Profar compare to in the big leagues? And is he the top hitter in the minors?
(Aaron from Dallas)
I wish I could give you a good answer but I am not very knowledgeable about the minors. It's just not my forte, sorry. You probably have a better idea than I do. (Larry Granillo)
2012-06-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)I'm trying to find a comparison to Jurickson Profar's performance at his age in Double A. Anyone come to mind?
(WesleyTilson from Memphis)
Don't try. Profar is an elite prospect, with all five-tools and a very mature approach to the game. I've heard all sorts of comps, including Barry Larkin, but when you have a player of this level, their own ability and performance removes a lot of the necessity for comps. Profar is Profar. Other players are compared to him. (Jason Parks)
2012-05-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like better long-term, Wil Myers or Jurickson Profar?
(Steve from Dallas)
Profar, though I think both will be very good. Profar has the positional scarcity edge on Myers. Myers, fully healthy, is showing his potential so far this year. He's a beast. (Paul Sporer)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey, Jason. Thanks for the chat. So I've noticed a lot of similarities in what I'm hearing about Francisco Lindor relative to Jurickson Profar a year ago: does everything well, supremely polished for the age, lacks a huge offensive ceiling. This year Profar revised our expectations of him, particularly. I guess I'm trying to understand whether this well-rounded, extremely solid/polished skillset plays up (above expectations), or whether it was a true tools-based breakout. And of course I'm wondering whether the same might be expected of Lindor. Thanks for the chat and the dispatches from Arizona. I loved the bit about the dog.
(Rob from Alaska)
Here's the thing with Profar: I don't think his breakout season altered his ceiling, at least not in my mind. What it did was raise his floor, which was already very high. Profar is a first-division shortstop waiting to happen, and he might be an all-star shortstop before the music stops. His floor is basically a starting major leaguer at a premium defensive position. He is going to be very good. The only question is how good is how soon? Lindor is similar in the sense that his floor is remarkably high, and his current polish and maturity allows those that have seen him in person to paint an accurate picture of the type of player he is going to be. Like Profar, Lindor has everything you want to see in a starting SS at the major league level; instincts out the ass, + arm, + glove. Add to the mix a very good bat, a very mature approach, and some pop. It's a great combination. They are both going to play in the majors for over a decade. They are the shortstops of the future. (Jason Parks)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)What players do you receive the most questions about?
(John from Pittsburgh)
Jurickson Profar, Robbie Grossman, and Bryce Harper (Jason Parks)
