BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Does Wilmer Difo have a starting role in Washington next season? I'm guessing they move on from Desmond.
(MP from KY)
He has a chance to win the job for sure. I would agree that the Nationals aren't going to try and re-sign Desmond and that he'll walk. (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)Brendan, if you were a GM and you were in position to sign any of Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman, Trea Turner, Orlando Arcia or Wilmer Difo, who would you take and why?
(jeffbroyde from Socal)
With respect to the rest, I'm debating Swanson and Arcia. I like Arcia's glove, and think he'll start at short for several years, but I think I'd cave and go with Swanson's upside. Hard to pass up a SS with plus speed and 15-20 homer power potential. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2015-06-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)In a dynasty league, how would you rank Wilmer Difo, Brett Phillips, Gleyber Torres and Derek Fisher for offensive production?
(NorDub from Seattle)
Proximity to the majors also matters. I'd say Phillips, Difo, Fisher, Torres. (J.P. Breen)
2015-05-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)If you're going to call up WILMER DIFO, play the man! Amirite or amirite?
(Mike from Stillwater)
I would think so. I hope he sees consistent time somewhere -- even if that is back to AA or AAA. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-05-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)Nationals SS of the future: Wilmer Difo or Trea Turner?
(Peter from Delaware)
I want to do a piece on this. Difo, for now. But once I see Turner, that might change. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-05-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like better? Trea Turner or Wilmer Difo? Mike Rizzo may have to answer that question at some point.
(HalfStreet from Fairfax VA)
I think Difo is a better player all around, but I like both players. Turner's swing can get long but I think there is enough to work with there. The speed/defense are plenty enough to stick at SS.

My colleague C.J. Wittmann has you covered on Difo. His report is about as up to date as you can get: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=203 (Tucker Blair)
2015-05-05 15:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Nick, who do you have as some of your favorite Low Minor, high ceiling prospects to keep an eye on for 2015, and are looking to jump on before their stock gains recognition this season, ex. Tapia last pre-season or Devers by its conclusion?
(kiper90 from Rochester, NY)
One of my favorites is Wilmer Difo on the Nationals. He's old for the levels he's playing at, but he hit .315 with 14 homers and 49 steals in A-ball last year and after three good weeks at High-A this year he was called up to Double-A. Don't miss the boat on Difo as I still haven't forgiven myself for waiting too long on him in the #TDGX league. And I likely never will. (Nick Shlain)
2015-04-29 20:00:00 (link to chat)What is the potential fantasy profile for Wilmer Difo?
(Daniel from NM)
In terms of upside, a .290 hitter who can hit 10-12 homers and steal 25-30 bases. Even a compressed version of that is still a playable middle infielder in most leagues. (Bret Sayre)
2015-04-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)CJ, great job on the reports lately, you and the BP team (besides Craig) have been crushing it. Few questions- 1) Are you going to make a cameo at the BP Milwaukee event? 2) Can you talk Nick Pivetta and Wilmer Difo? I think you saw them both in action this week. Thanks. #MortBlood
(NatsGM from THE NatsGM Studios)
I think this is a good question to open with. Craig will be out at games shortly and the Milwaukee event? I doubt it unless I can get a flight in. I will have reports in on Pivetta and Difo tonight so I think you will see that soon. Short version, Nick Pivetta: backend starter and Wilmer Difo: role 6 SS at peak. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-04-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)Could you please give us a couple of names outside a top 100 list that you think is moving up the ranking? Or a couple of names that have really caught your attention? Thanks
(scott from az)
Wilmer Difo stood out early this year. I would keep an eye on him. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-04-06 20:15:00 (link to chat)Hey Craig, who do you have as some of your favorite Low Minor, high ceiling prospects to keep an eye on for 2015, and are looking to acquire before their stock gains recognition this season, ex. Tapia last pre-season or Devers by its conclusion?
(kiper90 from Rochester, NY)
Devers was less one of my low minors favorites than Bret or Ben. Yeyson Yrizarri fits the bill for me, less so for fantasy than real life, though. Some fantasy name to watch would be Wilmer Difo, Rob Kaminsky, Jorge Mateo, Chance Sisco and Magneuris Sierra. (Craig Goldstein)
2015-03-06 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hows this for obscurity? Give me your thoughts on the Nationals' Wilmer Difo? Any amount of elite-ness there?
(Rich from Ellicott)
Pssh, that's not osbscure. YOU'RE NOT OBSCURE.

No elite-ness, and he was old for the level, but he was really impressive in the Sally League and he can fly. A potential regular at second base.

And on that note, I'm gonna go ahead and call the chat done. Again, I wanna thank everyone for their support today, and I really look forward to talking with you guys very soon. Enjoy the weekend! (Christopher Crawford)
2014-09-10 12:00:00 (link to chat)Are the Nationals one of the more underrated farm systems? Besides having the best pitcher in the minors, they seem to have a lot of toolsy, high-upside type of guys. And they have Reynaldo Lopez.
(Shawn from Cubicle)
I think they are, partially because I was able to watch Hagerstown all season.

3 impact arms in Gioltio, Lopez, Cole
Nick Pivetta and Jake Johansen have ability
Rafael Bautista, Wilmer Difo, Drew Ward

It's a nice group, and that was basically only Hagerstown. Pedro Severino is a solid defense-first C for Potomac, and they still have a few guys like Brian Goodwin, Matt Skole, etc that could potentially provide impact. (Tucker Blair)
2014-09-10 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Wilmer Difo?
(Tony from DC)
I am being conservative on him, just because I want to see it against more polished pitching. However, there is no denying that tools are present. Speed, bat speed, seems to have a good approach. Age is currently against him, but he could be a 2-level jump type player next season. (Tucker Blair)
