2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)How has Jordan Akins looked this season? Also, did you get a chance to see Yorman Rodriguez this year in the Cactus League?
(genehuh from Los Angeles)
Akins is better but still iffy in the grand scheme. Report I recently got from Hickory said that he was crushing fastballs and had little chance against breaking balls. The Reds were kind of my white whale this spring. I did not get a chance to see their minor league side, and I think I only saw the big-league team once. I may be making a quick trip over to California while I'm in Arizona at some point this year, however, so stay tuned there. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)Whither Jordan Akins? I still dream a little dream of him
(JoeTetreault from Carrollton, TX)
Crazy high ceiling; very little feel for the game. Not going to happen. (Jason Parks)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)Is Lewis Brinson this year's Jordan Akins? Can Jordan Akins recover and become next year's Lewis Brinson?
(CyMature from Cabin (Fever))
They both have tools, but they aren't that similar. Brinson has feel and baseball skills and Akins is a D1 football player that just happens to be on a baseball team. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2013-02-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's the best tool you've seen live on a guy who never became a big leaguer?
(SC from Humboldt County)
Every tool that Jordan Akins has (Jason Parks)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jordan Akins in low A again next year? Did he make progress this year?
(mranney from Lockport,NY)
He made progress in the sense that he got a taste of failure at a full-season level. It wasn't pretty, but positive development isn't always found on the stat sheet. We shall see what happens. I'm not overly optimistic.

Also, Liverpool vs. The Young Boys is on Fox Soccer right now. It's a big deal in my small world. But you have my full attention. (Jason Parks)
2012-06-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)In the last podcast you and kevin said that the prospect from the rangers (sorry, his name slips my mind right now) had the greatest difference between ceiling and actual talent. Even more so than Bubba Starling?
(Twenty Grade Tony from Albuquerque)
Yes. Jordan Akins.

Kevin wrote a great article about this type of player (gap player) recently at BP. Check it out. (Jason Parks)
2012-04-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)You've been to Spring Training the last two years. Which player(s) that you saw in 2011 made the most improvement by 2012?
(benharris from Denver)
No question it was Jordan Akins. He could barely hit in batting practice when I first him. He wasn't just raw. He was rancid. He's still raw, but the improvement is extreme. It's more than just looking the part. (Jason Parks)
2012-04-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jordan Akins. What up?
(Jordan Akins Dad from USA)
Great user name. Great athlete that has started taking the steps to be a great baseball player. Long way to go, but damn that ceiling is high. It's Matt Kemp high. (Jason Parks)
