BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2013 Kevin Goldstein, July 2011: "He needs to keep mashing because that's all he can do as a big, slow first baseman." To that end, 42 percent of Malm's hits last year went for extra bases (the same rate as 2011 in Low-A), including 36 doubles, tied for second in the league with teammate Cameron Seitzer. The Rays would probably like to see him up that percentage even moreóbreak out for 20 homers, say, while racking up dozens more doubles. If he starts to get close to 20 at Port Charlotte, he'll likely move up to Double-A before he reaches the mark. Strikeouts are a given.
2012 He had the eighth-best OPS in the New York-Penn League last season, quite the step up from his first two seasons of subpar statistical production.

I'm not sure he's flying under the radar, but he certainly is mashing. That said, he needs to keep mashing because that's all he can do as a big, slow first baseman. (Kevin Goldstein)
