DateQuestionAnswer
2014-05-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)What would you say are Grant Green's chances at sticking around as a frequently used bench player after all those Angels come back off the D.L.?
(John Carter from Toronto)
I think there's a real chance. Remember, this guy was a 13th overall pick... there's some pedigree here. I much prefer him to the Jimenezes and Navarroes (Paul Sporer)
2013-11-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)So who's gone from the Angels this offseason? Trumbo, Kendrick, and Bourjos?
(Robert from California)
I guess Kendrick, because it's easier to imagine Grant Green sticking at second (to replace Kendrick) than at short (to replace Aybar). (Sam Miller)
2013-10-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you rank these first-year 2b in order of who will have the best career? Kolten Wong, Scooter Gennett, Nick Franklin, Chris Owings, Wilmer Flores, Jonathan Schoop, Marcus Semien, Grant Green. Thank you.
(The Kernel from Pasadena)
Wong, Owings, Franklin, Schoop, Gennett, Semien, Flores, Green. (Jason Parks)
2013-07-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)If you are trading major league talent for prospects do you want bulk or elite. As example (from A's): Addison Russell or Sonny Gray, Michael Choice, Grant Green and Jemile Weeks.
(hknova from Hong Kong)
I wouldn't trade for Grant Green. Give me the high ceiling guys; players with impact potential. You don't fly flags because of fringy talent. Impact players make impact teams. (Jason Parks)
2013-06-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Grant Green have a future in Oakland or is he forever a 4A guy? Getting a little old to be still doing well in AAA and still no cup of coffee!
(OakTown from The Office)
While I've never been the absolute biggest Grant Green guy, I think he has a big-league future, and there's no reason to believe he doesn't have a future in Oakland. The versatility is intriguing and makes me think he could be a nice super-utility bench guy, but he's got a shot as a 2B. I'm surprised Oakland hasn't given him an opportunity yet. That should come at some point, though. Most scouts I've spoken to who have seen him this year like him enough and think he deserves that chance this year, so I wouldn't throw a 4A tag on him – especially before he plays in the majors. (Jason Cole)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)How long until the A's give Grant Green a shot at second base in Oakland?
(Dave from Chicago)
Never been the biggest Green believer as an everyday guy (probably a second-division type), but there's clearly something there in the bat. He's on the 40 and should at least get a look at some point this season. He might be best fit for a versatile super-utility type role. This is Green's third year in the upper levels, so I think it's about time for a look. (Jason Cole)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)Can Grant Green become a solid everyday second baseman for the A's?
(Dave from Chicago)
I'm not a believer, but he's a major leaguer with a chance to be a second-division type (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2012-12-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Grant Green have starting 2B potential? Does he comp at all with Michael Young?
(Alex from SF)
They are both white. (Jason Parks)
2012-10-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Grant Green has a spot on the A's 25 man roster on Opening Day? With Sizemore at 2B and Donaldson at 3B, I can see him as the utility guy.
(Thomas from CA)
I think he could be a super-utility type; a player capable of playing multiple spots on the diamond, including center field and the left side of the infield. Valuable player to have, and that value spikes if he can hit. (Jason Parks)
2012-06-05 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat. Do you expect that the A's will have problems signing their first three picks? I'm at least mildly concerned that Russell is ADVISED by Boras.
(Jimmy from Virginia Beach)
Like I said, not all Boras client's are alike. The A's felt comfortable with him there, and they haven't backed away from Boras in the past, as they recently took Grant Green. Boras client does not automatically equal panic. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-05-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Grant Green is having a solid year. Any chance we see him in Oakland before Sept.
(GG from Ontariol)
I dobut it, but September is realistic. Also a quick pro tip. If you asked a question that I haven't gotten to, and then you ask if 42 more times to fill up the queue, I'm not going to answer it. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-03-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)On twitter a few weeks ago, you mentioned that Grant Green didn't profile as a 3B. I assume you think he does profile as a CF. Did you know that CF hit .261/.325/.406 last year, while 3B hit .254/.314/.391 ?
(Grant from Oakland)
Just because there are few 3B right now doesn't mean we change the profile, no? (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-01-20 14:00:00 (link to chat)Where does Grant Green stick position wise? If this is a rebuilding year for Oakland (isn't every year?) then will he get some ABs?
(John from Tupelo)
The outfield with a solid shot at center; I wouldn't be shocked to see him in September. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-08-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)What would you do with the A's? Trevor Cahill has been terrible for the past few months. Brett Anderson is likely out for most of next season. Kurt Suzuki has regressed badly at the plate. Their free agent acquisitions didn't help them contend this season and they didn't deal them at the deadline, so there's no space to let prospects audition. Then again, their prospects (Chris Carter, Michael Taylor, Adrian Cardenas, Michael Choice, and Grant Green) all have some major flaws.
(Tom from Madison)
Besides moving to a new stadium somewhere? Here’s what Beane said in Tyler Kepner’s piece yesterday: “Sometimes, you’re relegated to buying that lottery ticket. Anybody will tell you that the lottery is not a great way to invest your money. But sometimes, you don’t have a lot of options.” Post-Moneyball Beane sounds more and more like post-Super-System Doyle Brunson every day. My advice, though, would be to find a bopper somewhere, since there’s no one in the system ready to hit in the middle of the order. Cahill, McCarthy and Gonzalez should be good enough to make you competitive even with Anderson hurt. Sign Willingham to a reasonable 2-year deal if you can, but don’t go longer than that. Cross your fingers that Jemile Weeks and Brandon Allen can be building blocks. But mostly, find a bopper. Crazy thought: find out how much of Adam Dunn’s contract Kenny Williams would be willing to eat.

this offseason. (Ken Funck)
2011-03-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Fantasy question. I am in a deep 20 team league with 5 keepers per season. Looking at 2nd baseman strictly for this season, who would be more valuable, Dustin Ackley or Sean Rodriguez. And looking at it from a more long term perspective, Ackley, Christian Colon, Grant Green (assuming he moves to 2nd) or Rodriguez,
(kcroyalsguy from KC)
I'd go with Sean Rodriguez. Better team. Ackley won't get called up until June, and I think Ackley's value lies more in his secondary skills than standard 5x5 stats. Long-term, out of those guys it absolutely has to be Ackley, no? He just projects to be a different caliber of player. (Jeremy Greenhouse)
2011-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)What position do you think Grant Green ultimately ends up playing in the majors?
(Tom from Madison)
Second base, but he could be an offensive force there. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-02-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Ok while I'm trolling for bottom feeders, any of these guys worth a place on my minor league team at SS: Grant Green, Wilmer Flores, J. Iglesias? Thanks again.
(Dan46S from Boston)
I myself like Iglesias. (Ken Funck)
2011-01-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Outside of Grant Green, Chris Carter, and maybe Ian Krol, is there anyone in the A's system you like?
(Dave from Chicago)
You're missing someone I put in the Top 101 . . . (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-10-12 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who's closer to getting to the bigs... Dee Gordon or Grant Green?
(Jquinton82 from NY)
Reports are that Green may require a position change to second base, which might slow his timeline a bit. Offensively, he went bonkers at Hi-A Stockton, but Stockton is a pretty friendly place for a hitter. I think Dee Gordon's bat isn't pushing him as fast as Green's, though, and his defense is still feast or famine. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-07-01 14:00:00 (link to chat)Kevin, can you expand on your comments a week or so back about Grant Green's defense? I believe you mentioned the defensive reports are bad. Is he in danger of not sticking at SS? If so, where would he land?
(Jim Humdingding from Sphinx Park, CO)
Second base would be the next place for him, and I think he could work there. He's just a bit sloppy, and the range and arm are a bit fringy on the left side. (Kevin Goldstein)
