DateQuestionAnswer
2011-06-21 13:00:00I have the following four catchers in a 16 team Strat-O-Matic league where you can keep a guy forever if you like. Which do you like long term: Chris Iannetta, Ryan Hanigan, Josh Thole, Jason Castro? I'd love to have a stronger catcher, but that's not a possibility until next year's draft.
(jhardman from Strat-O-Matic land)
Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to play a strat-o-matic league before, so I'm not sure how all the specifics work, like how catcher defense is factored in. Hitting wise in regular roto terms, I like Iannetta the best. (Derek Carty)
2010-08-20 15:30:00Jason Castro (C, HOU) has been pretty miserable during his time with the big league club this year. What are the chances he can be an above-average offensive player for his position?
(Sam from Portland)
I think he could be an average catcher for a decade, but I've never seen him as above average in any offensive way. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-05-19 13:00:00Who says no if the Astros and Yankees were discussing Berkman, Oswalt, and Jason Castro for Vazquez, Montero, and a couple of live AA arms?
(wilk75 from houston)
I don't think the Yankees even discuss that. (Will Carroll)
2010-05-25 13:00:00With Nick Johnson maybe done for the season and Vazquez struggling, how about Berkman, Oswalt, and Jason Castro for Montero, Vazquez, and a couple of live AA arms?
(wilk75 from Houston)
I think the Astros would consider that if they didn't have to throw any money in the deal beyond taking on Vazquez's salary. (John Perrotto)
2010-04-08 14:00:00How long will the Astros let Towles struggle before bringing up Jason Castro? Is this a service time issue, or do the Astros actually think Towles might figure it out this year or that Castro needs more time in the minors?
(Jon from NYC)
Well, there's a lot of assumptions here that we can't answer here. Are we sure Towles will stink? Are we sure Castro will hit at Triple-A? Castro is definitely the future, and if the scenario ends up as you described, Castro won't be in the minors for very long. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-01-26 14:00:00Who will be the top 5 NL players who will make their major league debut in 2010?
(chaneyhey from stlouis)
Hmm, that's a toughie because it involves two variables that discount a player's expected value: likelihood of getting to the majors and expected production. We'll go with Heyward, Austin Jackson, Buster Posey, Jason Castro, and Madison Bumgarner. But that's basically an educated guess. (Tommy Bennett)
2009-11-17 14:00:00who was a better prospect coming out of college? Jason Castro or Tony Sanchez
(knockoutking from ---)
Pretty close, really. I like Sanchez' tools better. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-05-07 14:00:00As an Astros fan, give me something to get excited about. Anything. Anything at all.
(wilk75 from clutch city)
Colin Delome. Jason Castro has looked pretty good offensively, and pretty great defensively, throwing out 14 of 22 attempted base stealers. (Kevin Goldstein)

DateRoundtable NameComment
2009-06-09 14:30:002009 Draft CoverageThis reminds me what the Cubs did a few years ago when they drafted Tyler Colvin with the intention of spending money on Jeff Samardzija later in the draft. We hear the Pirates will be busy in the Dominican and in later rounds, but it's certainly weird to see Sanchez' name in the top five. Not more than a couple days ago, Kevin and I agreed that Jason Castro was a better prospect one year ago. And we know what we all thought about that Castro pick then. (Bryan Smith)
