2011 Jeremy Bleich, the only one of the Yankees' top three picks in the 2008 draft to sign, blew out his labrum, and given the weak results he has showed to this point, likely won't be rejoining us for the rest of his career.
2010 Bleich put up an 8.53 ERA in six starts at Trenton last year, which given the park's generous run-retardant effects (only four parks in organized baseball were friendlier to pitchers) is a bit like being mugged at Petco—it just shouldn't happen. So as bad as those numbers look, they're actually worse, which is a problem given that the Yankees so badly bollixed up the 2008 draft that first-round supplemental pick Bleich (44th overall) was the only one of their first three picks to sign. The southpaw's fastball sits in the low 90s, which is a bit faster than on draft day, perhaps because he's further removed from his 2008 elbow problems. Despite the uptick in velocity, he's not going to overwhelm anyone and has to have command, something that vanished at Trenton.
2009 Mid-rotation stuff and nagging injuries made Jeremy Bleich a controversial 2008 supplemental pick, but he took his first step toward silencing critics by posting a sub-2.00 ERA in the Hawaiian Winter League.
