YearComment
2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2012 Scouts were pessimistic about Andrew Lambo's chances entering the season, and he did nothing to change their minds while struggling in his first exposure to Triple-A.
2011 The Pirates still believe in former Dodger's prospect Andrew Lambo's bat, but they're in the minority, as scouts generally don't think he will hit enough for a player limited to a corner outfield slot.
2010 This 2007 fourth-rounder came into the year considered to be the best pure hitter in the system thanks to a combination of bat speed and raw strength. He was also the system's most advanced prospect for his age, reaching Double-A as a 20-year-old, and spending 2009 as the league's fourth-youngest hitting prospect. Despite a hot start at Chattanooga (.321/.383/.548 in April), Lambo soon went Arctic, batting just .243/.295/.377 the rest of the way as his plate discipline suffered and his power failed to develop. His odd reverse platoon split persisted, as he batted just .241/.299/.388 against righties. Lacking in speed, athleticism, and defensive ability, Lambo will only go so far as his bat takes him, and right now, that appears to be back to Chattanooga.
2009 Drafted in the fourth round in 2007 out of a Southern California high school, Lambo had the talent to go higher save for a marijuana-related incident. As one of the youngest players in the minors’ toughest offensive league, he stood out on a Great Lakes club that combined to bat just .241/.300/.354, then sparkled in a brief stint at Jacksonville. Though his lack of athleticism confines him to left field or first base, he has a plus arm and good hands, and ranks as the system's best pure hitter. Note that in both years he’s shown a persistent reverse platoon split. He figures to return to Double-A to start 2009, perhaps playing under the name “Curly.”

2014-01-21 18:00:00 (link to chat)Any sleepers in the OF? That's area that seems thin this season
(Mike from over there)
Depends on how deep your league is. In really deep leagues, David Lough in the AL and Andrew Lambo in the NL are examples of deep, deep sleepers I'd target. (Mike Gianella)
2009-11-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Does Andrew Lambo become a 4th OFer, everyday OFer, or All-star?
(raygu1 from burlington, NJ)
More a-b than b-c. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-07-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can you tell us anything about Austin Gallagher and Andrew Lambo in the Dodgers system? Both guys have some nice numbers, what do the scouts say? It seems odd that as a 19 years old in high-A Gallagher hasnt got much attention. Thanks.
(sanchez101 from santa barbara)
Gallagher is a pretty interesting prospect who is hitting at High-A as a teenager, but his raw power remains raw only, his approach is poor, and he's not a third baseman. Like him, but don't love him. Lambo is kind of in the same category. He's the best hitter at Great Lakes, but that's not saying a ton, and as a first baseman, looking like a good hitter isn't enough, you have to look like a real impact guy. (Kevin Goldstein)
