2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 Culberson, a supplemental first-round pick of the Giants in 2007, came to Colorado last July in the Marco Scutaro trade. He played second base exclusively in 2010-12 but also has experience at shortstop and third base, neither of which he played well. A free swinger (.311 OBP in 2,704 career minor-league plate appearances) with doubles power (.122 ISO), his upside is that of utility infielder. Given his offensive and defensive limitations, even that might be a stretch.
2012 Since the Giants drafted Charlie Culberson as a sandwich pick in 2007, he has hit well in the California League, hit well in the Arizona Fall League, and struggled everywhere else. In his favor, he has cleaned up his defense since moving to second base.
2011 Living proof that Mike Stanton was once on the Giants, Charlie Culberson was drafted with the compensation pick received when Stanton signed with the Reds. A high-school shortstop, Culberson's glove moved him to third in 2009 and his bat moved him to second in 2010. His offense jumped in the latter season, but that might have been little more than a California League spike.
2010 Three years since being a supplemental first-rounder, Charlie Culberson is still struggling to get going or to settle in anywhere around the diamond, but he will be only 21 next year.
2008 A shortstop in name only, 2007 supplemental first-round pick Charlie Culberson will be a second or third baseman soon, but he has an interesting set of secondary skills if not the sharpest tools
