2014-02-26 19:00:00 (link to chat)Zack Cozart: SS Sleeper? He's got 15 HR power and stole 30 bags in the minors at a good success rate. New Reds coach Bryan Price wants the team to be more aggressive on the bases and Cozart finished strong in 2013. He's got the potential of doing .270/15/15/70/70 in a traditional 5x5.
(RMR from Chicago)
Definitely a sleeper but I wouldn't expect too much out of him. He's only stolen 4 bases in his MLB career so I doubt the 15 SB upside. (Mauricio Rubio)
2013-03-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Harry, What are your thoughts on the long term prospects for Starling Marte and Zack Cozart.
(dhorrell1956 from Winston-Salem, NC)
solid but not stars (Harry Pavlidis)
2013-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)How much upside is there for Zack Cozart? This is a keeper league, and Cozart is under control for cheap 2 more years, then arb-eligible.
(DF from Wilmington, N.C.)
I think he could hit .265ish with 20 bombs, so a bit of upside from last year. Def worth keeping giving SS scarcity. (Paul Sporer)
2013-01-14 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat. How about the Reds this season? Will Votto's power be back and can the young 3 - Zack Cozart, Todd Frazier, and Devin Mesoraco be counted on for much?
(Rockford from Flowmont)
I like the Reds a lot. I'm guessing Votto will be fully healthy and not the guy who went 170 or so plate appearances without a home run after late June last season. As for the three young players, Mesoraco is the only one who hasn't already had a pretty productive season in the majors, and he could still get there. (Ben Lindbergh)
2012-11-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see the Reds doing anything on the offensive side this offseason? I expect Todd Frazier to be the 3b, but what happens at SS, CF, and LF?
(Rockford from Flowmont)
Thanks for stopping by, Rockford. After watching GABP help Ryan Ludwick to turn back into a serviceable everyday player, I think the Reds will go with a low-cost option in left, and possibly just bring back Ludwick if his price tag doesn't bloat too much. I also wouldn't expect them to give up on Zack Cozart so quickly, especially because he did amass 1.4 WARP last year, even with a .288 OBP. Given the depth of the outfield market, there might be a center fielder who fits the Reds' budget, so that's the position I think Jocketty will be most tempted to address. If Angel Pagan, B.J. Upton, and Michael Bourn all price themselves out of the Reds' range, Shane Victorino might be an intriguing option. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-02-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Zack Cozart's power ceiling is _____? 20 HR? .475 slugging?
(Johnny from San Diego)
I'm a big Cozart fan, but that's getting a bit over excited. (Kevin Goldstein)
2012-02-02 15:00:00 (link to chat)Zack Cozart: Buy or Sell?
(Faztradamus from At a red light)
Buy, at the right price. Decent combination of power and speed, and while the AVG won't be great, he should get a clear shot at everyday playing time this year. What would you pay for 12-15 homers, 15-20 or so steals and a .260 average? (Cory Schwartz)
2012-01-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)What can we expect Zack Cozart to become this season? Down the road?
(Rodney from Tinley Park, IL)
Cozart is a better real-life player than fantasy because his best tool is his glove, but he has above average power and speed and could develop into a 25-25 player down the road. 15-15 this year wouldn't surprise me at all. Scouts donít like his approach at the plate or skill with the bat a whole lot (though his strikeouts rates are manageable), so the batting average upside could be a bit limited. (Derek Carty)
2011-07-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)Walt Jocketty finally called up Zack Cozart to try and address the Reds' black hole of suck at SS. The rotation is still a big question mark with Arroyo falling apart after 5 innings and Volquez having no clue where the plate is. Has Jocketty shown too much patience in not addressing the Reds issues, just enough, too little?
(TheRedsMan from Chicago)
Too much, particularly with Cozart, not that I think he's really a great solution. Still, when your shortstops have hit .226/.274/.271 on the season, you owe it to the team to try anything. Speaking of which, if you're the White Sox, do you let Adam Dunn just put up 600 at-bats of what he's been doing? That would be a season for the books. (Steven Goldman)
