BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2013 Brian Dinkelman: At least his name was memorable. Dinkelman . . . heh.
2012 In last year's book, we predicted that Dinkelman's best hope for a taste of the majors would be an injury stack at the big league level. Sure enough, the prophecy came to pass. After plugging away in the minors for five seasons and change, the 2006 NAIA Player of the Year got the call in June, just after Jason Kubel and Jim Thome went on the DL, with Joe Mauer and Tsuyoshi Nishioka still serving extended stints. His moment quickly passed, but Dinkelman earned a September callup, and proceeded to hit just about the slappiest .301 that a man can hit. Dineklman lacks the range or the hands to be a full-time infielder, the power to be an outfielder, or the utility to be a utilityman. Outrighted off the 40-man and re-signed to a minor league deal, he is organizational fodder in an organization that's all foddered up.
2011 Dinkelman was the NAIA Player of the Year in 2006 at McKendree University in Illinois, but he hasn't been able to carry his outstanding college numbers into professional baseball. He began his pro career as a middle infielder, but stiff hands and below-average range forced a move to the outfield. Dinkelman doesn't have the power to be a major-league outfielder and lacks the versatility to make it as a utility infielder. Although he surely wouldn't wish ill unto others, his best hope for a taste of the majors is an injury stack on the big club.
2010 Another one of those scrappy, versatile types that the Twins love, Brian Dinkleman had a nice year at Double-A, hitting .302/.388/.454 vs. RHPs; he could be a bench player by 2011.
2008 Non-drafted-free-agent Brian Dinkelman played well for a second straight season, although an experiment in the outfield was mostly unproductive. At 24, he can't afford a bad year.
