2008 The Astros' first-round pick in 2006, Sapp was supposed to make the Ausmus debate moot. Now, he's just trying to escape the Sally League. Sapp was drafted for his power, but has just three homers and a .095 ISO as a pro. He's been young for his leagues, and you have to wonder if some of his problem is overcoaching. Last year, Sapp was hitting over .300 with an OBP above .400 in May, which would be valuable even without much power, but the team wanted him to be more aggressive at the plate, and he fell apart from there. He's too young to give up on, but with so little talent in the Astros' system, there will be a disproportionate focus on his development.
2007 The team`s first-round pick in 2006, Max Sapp is a left-handed-hitting catcher with power and a good throwing arm who was overmatched in the New York-Penn League while facing players who were generally three years older than he was. Give him a mulligan statistically, as he has a nice set of skills to build on.
