BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2010 Acquired from the Twins in the same deal that brought Garza and Bartlett, Eduardo Morlan lost velocity in 2008 due to shoulder woes; healthy in 2009, his performance has yet to rebound.
2009 Seen as a top relief prospect when acquired in the Delmon Young deal, righty Eduardo Morlan lost some heat on his fastball and was left off of the 40-man roster, leading to Milwaukee's taking him in the Rule 5 draft.
2008 Set loose in the bullpen last year, Morlan established himself as one of the top relief prospects in the game. His classic combo of a high-90s fastball and sharp slider marks him as a closer candidate, and escaping to a reliever-poor organization in Tampa Bay via the Garza/Young trade puts him on the fast track to the majors. He still has some work to do on his mechanics and controlling his emotions, both critical traits for high-leverage relievers.
2007 The Twins certainly seem to grow young arms on trees, don`t they? Morlan is one of the better ones at the lower levels, and he`s a pretty nice story as well: Morlan`s family escaped from Cuba in the late-nineties; their initial destination was Spain, one of the few countries that gives refugee status to Cubans, but they moved to Florida so the kid could play baseball. Morlan has grown a bit since being a third-round pick in 2004, and now touches 97 MPH with his fastball while also throwing it for strikes. If he can find another pitch, he could be pretty good, and, even if not, the fastball is sufficient for late-inning relief work.
