DateQuestionAnswer
2011-05-05 13:00:00Lackey is also tradeable; someone might be willing to take him off the Red Sox, believing a change in scenary could help. Jeter is a pure sunk cost, and is looking very much the sink part right now. I don't think I've seen Nunez play the field yet - so far, all his problems have been on throws, right? That seems correctable. How does he look in the field otherwise?
(Shaun P. from Medway, MA)
He has more range than Jeter, though that's damning him with faint praise. And the news now comes down that Eric Chavez has a "small fracture" in his foot, so I guess we won't be seeing him for awhile. As we've often said at BP, health is a skill. Sadly, and I really mean sadly, Chavez doesn't have it. I wonder who gets called up. I hope it's someone more useful than Ramiro Pena... (Steven Goldman)
2010-10-20 13:00:00So what did you think of the fans' involvement in the Yankee run production last night?
(Peter Q from San Diego)
Hey, Pete. I owe you a phone call... I think until they build ballparks with the appropriate setbacks, that stuff is going to happen and I don't get too exercised about it. I've never quite understood what the appeal of catching a ball is anyway. It's... a ball. Sure, Enrique Wilson fouled it into the stands, but does that really make it that special. Are you going to tell your grandkids that you caught the ball that Ramiro Pena hit? Your grandchildren are going to be living underwater anyway, and won't have any idea what you're talking about. (Steven Goldman)
2010-08-04 13:00:00I know it is water under the bridge, but wouldn't it have still made sense to include Eduardo Nunez in the Cliff Lee debacle? I understand the M's kept upping the ante but do you think Nunez should have been a dealbreaker ? I don't.
(Tom S from Albany)
I don't either. The only reason I can think of is that if there were some sort of catastrophic injury to Derek Jeter, the Yankees think Nunez could be plugged in and still give them a little punch at the position. He could, I guess... More than Ramiro Pena, less than everyone else? (Steven Goldman)
2010-05-25 13:00:00Are the Yankees looking for a longer-term solution at DH than Juan Miranda, or are they going to rotate the vets through and give too many PA's to the likes of Ramiro Pena?
(Eli from Brooklyn)
I'm hearing they will pounce on Paul Konerko if the White Sox decide to start trading off veterans. (John Perrotto)
2009-04-10 16:30:00Hi Christina, I have a transaction rules question. On Wednesday the A's claimed Dan Niese off waivers from the Evil Empire and immediately optioned him to Sacramento. How are they able to do that? Why couldn't the Empire just send him down to one of its evil outposts if he has an option left? Thanks.
(oira61 from San Francisco)
Because they were taking him off of their 40-man roster to make room for Ramiro Pena on it (and on their active roster); he had options, so when the A's snagged him, they could, although they did have to do as the Yankees had with Giese and designate Chris Schroder for assignment, because they too were full up on their 40-man. (Christina Kahrl)
