YearComment
2010 His starring role in Highlander now years in the past, Lambert was claimed off waivers from the Tigers in August with the idea that he could fill in during September while the Orioles shelved their real prospects to keep their innings down. Lambert had hit the wall himself, though, and only made four relief appearances in Orioles drag. He's improved his command enough that he might be able to hold a back-end rotation spot, but probably not with this team.
2009 A failed first-round pick by the Cardinals, Lambert moved to Detroit at the end of the 2007 season and had the best year of his career at Triple-A last year, getting his first taste of the big leagues trying to cover for Nate Robertson's collapse. He doesn't throw as hard as he once did, as his formerly 92-94 mph fastball now sits in the 88-91 mph range, but he throws far more strikes than he used to, and his secondary pitches, especially his curveball, are solid. He'll get an honest shot this spring at earning that extra arm role on the Tigers staff, but that's likely his ceiling.
2008 The booty for Mike Maroth, Chris Lambert is back-end roster filler, another in a long line of weak Cardinals' first-round picks.
2007 Wasn`t he the star of `Highlander?` Lambert has now made 41 starts at Double-A over the last two seasons and it looks like he could use some more. A 5.00-plus ERA with impractical walk rates might make one a multi-millionaire at the big league level, but another year of that in the high minors is going to dead-end the former first-round pick in a hurry. He might be better off returning to the jungle and flirting with a young Andie MacDowell.
2006 The club`s 2004 1st-round pick out of Boston College didn`t adjust well to Double-A. His stuff`s not electric: his velocity is nothing to write home about, and his curveball`s decent, but he can`t consistently throw it for strikes. Lambert has time to learn, but needs to change speeds more effectively in order to succeed at higher levels.
