2012 As a claim to fame, Fisher may have to settle for being the loser of the Reds' 19-inning loss to the Phillies on May 25, pitching into a sixth inning out of the pen. As a guy already boxed out by Arredondo for spare warm-body duties, being on the wrong side of glory is becoming something he's familiar with.
2011 After nearly 75 major-league innings, Fisherís ERA rests at 4.82, a rather unsightly mark for a full-time reliever, even one who gets little high-leverage work. Heís managed to earn his fair share of strikeouts, so itís clear that the main culprit is a walk rate upward of five batters per nine; the Californian doesnít possess the strikeout stuff or the ground-ball-induction abilities to pitch around that profusion of free passes. Fisherís control has been far better at Triple-A, where he has excelled in parts of three seasons, so itís possible that his relative success on the farm could begin to carry over. Perhaps he simply doesnít trust his assortment of sinkers and cutters sufficiently, but then again, he might be right not to.
2010 Called up in late May, sinkerballer Fisher pitched most of his innings in garbage time, which is just as well as he allowed half of his inherited runners to score on the season and posted a 6.75 ERA as opposing batters hit .280/.370/.473 against him in over his last 18 appearances. Left-handed batters saw Fisher particularly well, hitting .337/.402/.410 (righties hit .204/.341/.352; small-sample caveats apply to both). Heís not suited for higher-leverage work.
2009 Moved to a bullpen role last season, Carlos Fisher pounds the bottom half of the zone with a blend of cutters and sinkers, and might enter into the big-league picture this year.
2007 No, this isn`t some new mall-bound Mexican seafood chain, but yes, he does pitch with flair. Picked in the 11th round in 2005, Fisher`s a former high school outfielder who started pitching at Lewis-Clark State College. He was a tad old for the lowest rung of full-season ball last year, but he`s athletic, has clean mechanics and good control, keeps the ball on the ground, and throws in the low-90s with good movement. His spotty secondary stuff is what might push him into the bullpen, but he has promise.
