BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2013 Jonathan Albaladejo returned stateside after a year in Japan, and the International League record-holder for saves was able to survive a full season in the closer role for Reno despite nerve-racking levels of walks and homers allowed.
2011 Jonathan Albaladejo had an excellent year at Triple-A, but the Yankees had seen enough in previous trials and showed little interest in giving him another chance, so he's off to Japan, jiggety-jig.
2010 Unless there's a Lend-Lease program for vowels in the offing, Albaladejo may never contribute as much to the Yankees in his extra relief guy spins as mop-up mauler Tyler Clippard has already contributed more to the Nats. His slider has its moments, but they've been all too infrequent for the big Puerto Rican.
2009 Acquired from the Nationals for Tyler Clippard, Albaladejo was a successful dark-horse candidate for the pen, claiming the last spot in spring training. Twice optioned and twice recalled, in his third stint he made the painful discovery that it's difficult to throw your slider with a stress fracture in your pitching elbow, ending his year on the 60-day DL. He pitched as a closer in the Puerto Rican Winter League and will again compete for a spot this spring.
2008 Another minor league free agent who broke out as a Nat, Jonathan Albaladejo relies on snappy breaking stuff to get by. He was dealt to the Yankees over the winter for Tyler Clippard

DateQuestionAnswer
2010-06-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think Joe Girardi, grand architect of bullpens the past two years, can work some magic this season? At what point do the Yankees finally allow Mark Melancon (or Jonathan Albaladejo) to push Park/Logan out of the picture?
(Adam from NY)
I hope so, but right now I'm not terribly optimistic that they've got the solutions on hand. Albaladejo ain't it, and I'm skeptical Melancon's it either - they're going to have to go outside the organization to get an arm or two. (Jay Jaffe)
