2009 Ty Taubenheim resurfaced in the major leagues last June to pitched one good game against the Rays before suffering a season-ending elbow injury.
2008 Despite his size, Taubenheim does not have a power game, instead getting by with what you might call "National League stuff." This becomes relevant now that the Pirates, who contrary to popular belief do still exist, have claimed him off waivers. The big righty becomes part of a scrum for the last rotation spot in Pittsburgh and, failing that, could stick as the long man in a thin bullpen. If it turns out he actually has International League stuff, you can doodle over that PECOTA line above.
2007 Taubenheim was the extra chip the Blue Jays got back in the Lyle Overbay-David Bush trade, and he responded with a competent performance as an emergency starter at intervals throughout the season. He was also the second Blue Jay to wind up on the DL with a staph infection (the other was Alex Rios), which calls into question the stereotype of Canadian cleanliness. Maybe they keep their country so clean by licking the dirt off it. If so, it`s a task the Blue Jay players best leave to the natives in the future. Taubenheim doesn`t have much in the way of stuff, and he`s the sort of pitcher your major league team won`t need if its season is going well.
2006 After being picked in the 19th round of the `03 draft, with the low expectations that engenders, Taubenheim managed to pitch his way all the way up to throw-in status, getting tacked onto the back end of the Overbay trade this winter. Toronto values its strike-throwers more than most, but Taubenheim is likely to get overlooked in their pitching-laden farm system.
