DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-28 19:00:00 (link to chat)How offended are you when a rehabbing minor leaguer plays an end at your curling rink?
(ssimon from Pelham, N.Y.)
Is that why Nolan Reimold keeps crashing my games? I knew it. (Matt Sussman)
2012-11-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Could you set us straight, please, about some slow right-handed sluggers: 1) Why are the Orioles pursuing Jonny Gomes, unless Nolan Reimold is not expected to fully recover? 2) Why would anyone want a 27 year old .700 OPS (last two seasons) player known for his miscues - Delmon Young, unless they are duped into thinking he's still going to be good based on a good week in the ALCS?
(John Carter from Toronto)
Good afternoon, John Carter. The Orioles-Gomes connection surfaced yesterday, and I touched on it in today's Rumor Roundup. A designated hitter platoon certainly isn't ideal, but Gomes has a track record of mashing left-handed pitching, so there's room for him to share that job with, say, Chris Davis, even if Reimold and Nick Markakis are healthy and playing full-time in the outfield corners.

As for Delmon, I think most teams will be smart enough to seek other options, so a rough landing might be in store. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-05-07 13:00:00 (link to chat)The Orioles -- purely a fluke that will be corrected over the course of the season or better than we thought and could be .500 (I realize there are more options).
(Jay from Madison)
I talked about the Orioles earlier with Marc Normandin. (Heís writing a piece about the Orioles for tomorrow, so watch out for that.) Weíre at the point in the season where the Orioles just have to play like a 75-win team from here on out to reach 81 wins. That isnít unattainable. Realistically, I donít think Chris Davis and Nolan Reimold are going to continue to hit like this, and I donít think the starting rotation is quite this good. I could see them flirting with .500, but contention? Nah, not this season.

Of course, a month ago I wouldíve had them in last place now, so you never know with this game. Maybe the Orioles do the unthinkable. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-02-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Endy Chavez going to get 400 abs this year?
(Abe Froman from Chicago)
Iíll give him 300, but not 400. With Wilson Betemit signing in Baltimore this off-season, it seems more likely that Nolan Reimold gets a lot of the LF time, also spending some time at DH with Betemit and giving Endy some starts in LF on those days. If Chris Davis happens to crash and burn or get injured, itís possible Betemit plays first/third, Reimold DHs, and Endy plays close to full-time, though. (Derek Carty)
2010-05-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)We're approaching 40 games into the season, and the shock of the O's dismal start is starting to fade, and now I can't help but feel bitter. Wasn't this the year they were supposed to make it to .500, beginning an upward trend for at least a few years? Can you help me make sense of it all?
(tmcghan from Bay Area, CA)
Well, losing Brian Roberts for a couple of months is a major blow, but you're right, there's some disconcerting stuff going on there, such as Adam Jones' chilly start, the odd shipment of Nolan Reimold to Triple-A, and the inexplicable continuing presence of Garret Atkins. Still, Matt Wieters is making progress, as is Brian Matusz, and Chris Tillman appears to be coming around at Triple-A. Just remember that a turnaround for an organization with such a back history of losing takes time, and probably a change at the helm -- I'd have bet that Dave Trembley would get the axe before Trey Hillman, and I doubt he'll be around for much longer. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-09-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)With the CYA (Greinke) and the MVP (Mauer) awards pretty well settled who do you have for RoY??
(kcboomer from kc)
I'm sort of ambivalent. I imagine it will be Gordon Beckham, but I feel like you could make just as good a case for Andrew Bailey or Jeff Neimann. Nolan Reimold had a good year too, and I'm sure that some people will claim that Elvis Andrus helped the Rangers accomplish... accomplish... Oh, never mind. (Steven Goldman)
2009-09-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you know of any way to estimate in advance which players will come up from the minors and produce to their ability right away (Nolan Reimold), and which need a period to get acclimated before producing to their ability (Matt Wieters)?
(TGisriel from Baltimore)
If I knew, I probably wouldn't be working for BP, I'd be in somebody's front office. I don't think there's any magical way to tell. A lot of it has to do with scouting, and some of it also with expectations. For Wieters, I suspect that a good deal of his problem has been the fact that he's had to learn a whole new set of pitchers (or three, given all of the staff turnover) while adapting to hitting big-league pitching himself. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-08-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Elvis Andrus, Gordon Beckham, Nolan Reimold, maybe Rickey Romero, or Andrew Bailey...who you got as AL RoY?
(Lincoln from Dallas)
Beckham, who just recently passed Andrus. It's very close.

I really like Gordon Beckham. He could win an MVP as a shortstop. (Joe Sheehan)
2009-08-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)What is Nolan Reimold's role on the next Orioles dynasty?
(Jake from Aberdeen)
Worst regular in the lineup? That's not entirely fair, given that I like him more than that, but ideally, they figure out what they're going to do at first base and shortstop and give that pitching staff of 2012 a ton of run support. (Christina Kahrl)
2008-09-24 14:00:00 (link to chat)I know he's still very young, but do you see any signs that Billy Rowell will eventually tap into the potential that caused the O's to draft him in the first place? Also, do you think Nolan Reimold is ready for the majors?
(Dave from Massachusetts)
No; almost, but I don't see Reimold as a stud as much as I see him as solid -- and that's not a bad thing. (Kevin Goldstein)
