BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2010-01-14 16:00:00 (link to chat)What should the Cardinals do with the 5th starter spot behind Carp/Wainwright/Lohse/Penny?
(Jake from St. Louis)
Mitchell Boggs likes ground balls (which is good, because he also likes walks). Brad Thompson likes GBs too, but doesnít like strikeouts. I donít see the point of signing a free agent to be your 5th starter, so put Boggs and Thompson in a cage, and whoever emerges with his arm still attached gets the ball on fifth day. (Russell A. Carleton)
2010-01-14 16:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for answering my question, but Brad Thompson is in the Royals' organization now. So, I guess you're going with Mitchell Boggs as the 5th starter in STL?
(Jake from St. Louis, MO)
This is what happens when you read Dr. Sears rather than Christina Kahrl's transaction column. (Russell A. Carleton)
2008-05-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Two part question - #1 Is there an underlying reason for the Cardinals' seemingly high injury rate among picthers (Carpenter, Mulder, Isringhausen, Kinney, Brad Thompson, Tyler Johsnon all just this year)? #2 Is the club doing anything to try to address the problem on a more macro level?
(Kingpin from Grinnell, IA)
(Warwick Avenue by Duffy) I think 1 is best explained that three of those came into the organization as upside-based injury risks. If you bring in the type of guys they do, some are going to blow up. With Carpenter, there was quite the run there. On 2, yes, they've definitely been looking at it, overhauling their minor league pitching structure and doing some very forward thinking things. They have Sig Mejdal in the front office, remember. He's in the top five of smart guys I've met in the game. (Will Carroll)
